    For any future commenters who want to gripe about the waste of food; large scale bioreactors use food waste and any other inedible organics for methane production.
    Ethanol plants are also in the process of switching to corn stalks and leaves, switchgrass and algae for their methods of production so they have a positive or neutral impact on food supply.

    I'm retired. However, prior to retiring from a large municipal sewage treatment facility, the facility's anaerobic digesters produced a huge continuous (24/7) amount of methane, which was, probably still is, used as fuel for "cogeneration." Methane not used onsite, was either burnt-off or used to power generators for selling electricity back into the commercial grid.

    • @carllelendt5452
      @carllelendt5452 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Roughly 1/3 of that digester gas was methane. The rest was mostly CO2 which could've been used for high-lipid algae production and so on.

    We had a household methane gas plant at home. We had household animals like cows, buffaloes, goats so always had sufficiency of raw materials. ;) The was even a ceiling lamp powered by gas. Bio-gas plant is a good option of energy if your guts are powerful enough. :D

      GET IN THEM GUTS! LOL.
      On a real note, if you have a surplus of methane, do you give some to the neighbors?
      I feel like how they kept it in a 5gal water jug, I can probably do the same for my stoves at home. But the responsibility, I think, would be proper safe stowage, and also finding an appropriate hose adapter or fittings to whatever I need to connect my “methane tanks” too.

    No hydrochloric acid to mimic the process of digestion?

    • @CavePony
      @CavePony 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      no. hydrochloric acid is used to break down the proteins in the food, it doesn't actually "digest" the food. they have no role in the creation of methane and the acidity will actually kill the bacteria in the guts.

    • @toneywilliams4795
      @toneywilliams4795 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes we have the health and safety executive. But those rules you speak of wouldn't really apply because (a) it's not that much gas, so not dangerous, and (b) the containers are in a tv studio complex, that counts as a 'secure storage area' so the rules are more relaxed.
