Hi from DARQ dev! Love your theory video! Not to spoil the fun, I won't comment on any of the observations you've made. Regardless, it's one of my favorite videos made on DARQ, thank you for making it!
Thank you so much for the way you stood up against Epic's shady business practices! Bought your game on Steam, wrote a glowing review and gonna be gifting your game to my friends after I get paid later this month.
I agree with most of what you said. However, I think it’s more simple to assume that every experience he is having is related to his worsening state. The respirator is hooked up to him, and each state of his dreaming is his deepening into a state closer to death. So for example, the limbs being severed is possibly the cancer taking away his use of his limbs. The electrocutions done on him are attempts to revive him. There’s more to it, but those are simple ways to explain it.
I think that the last chapter of the game is that Lloyd is dying and when he is chased down by the lamp creatures, that were shooting at him, that's the nurses, trying to save Lloyd. But, when Lloyd (you as the player) keep running, the bridge finally crumbled down, meaning that Lloyd passed away. Now, all he has to do is to continue forward, and then the door opens and he is reborn!
Wow. This sad story has a deep meaning to it. And in all honesty, this game makes me think that this could be the work of Tim Burton since his works are known for being creepy(and I happen to be a huge fan of his).
That's what I was thinking, he was dying from a sickness....it reminded me of a game called Rime (I played the full game) except you have a cute fox to guide you and it really isnt dark/spooky till mid game.
That reminds me of another game that's super short but it's pretty dark. I forgot its name, but in it, a little girl explores her dream world which seems great and all. She meets animal friends who are nice to her and all is well. However, at a tree, there's this one creature (I think he's a wolf), who said he can help you wake up if you collect the seeds of each of her friends, who would only hand it over if you solve the quizzes they give you. Each wrong answer leads to a flower petal being plucked. The true story about the game's story is that the girl was born to a wealthy family: the animals represent key people in her life. One day her mother died, and in her father's depression, he locked her away in a room and made her a sex slave, since she looks like her mom. So basically a story about child rape, and how this girl tries to escape this reality through dreaming
The guy in the bird mask you say looks like a plague doctor's mask. I seen masks like those in history of the "Black Death". Something like "Among the Sleep", this is also horror game with a heart warming story.
How horrible of an ending would that be. Like if all the stuff about the terminal illness and his body shitting down is true. Waking up just to realise you're on death's door. I think I'd rather not wake up at all xmx
This whole games gives me a little nightmares, Inside, and Limbo vibe. Especially with the old women with the janitor. Congratulations Lowd your in the support group of kids who need love. We'll take care of you now.
Got a lot of respect for this developer and what he did. Good on you for making this video while his hype is "high". Idk if this is my cup of horror tea, but ill be buying the game solely to support the dev anyways. also if you kids could stop ruining youtube comment sections itd be greatly appreciated.
As a lucid dreamer wh ok tends to have nightmares, I have learnt to appreciate and love them. But kinda like inception, if you want to stay immersed in the dream despite knowing it is a dream, you can't fiddle with it too much or it will start to break at the seams over time.
Maybe Lloyd had a troubled past, like where he was an orphan. And some of his care takers was bad to him. Like yell, hitt and similar things to him. And he got a bad illness, and needed to go to the hospital. After a while he fell into a coma, with never ending nightmares. And all of the enemies he encounters are all the bad people that was involved in his life. The ending was when he died and got reborn, in hopefully a better life.
That game kinda hits home for me because i had an uncle who suddenly out of nowhere went into a coma i think due to something happening in his brain, but because his family could not take it they asked the doctors to remove life support from him. *sighs* he was a great guy.
This theory makes sense and an original soul can really go on to take another brand new bodie’s place such as a new born, or even if you die let’s say at an slightly old age you can also have an opportunity to live a new life in another body. And this really does happen, for babies..every nine months.
Well actually now that I consider those TV shows about spirints and past lives, Kids themselves at age 5 already remember there past lives and who they were. Let me tell one of them. So, a little boy a few years ago suddenly started acting strange to his parents, like, actually saying his name was Wilson or James, something like that, and also saying that he flew a plane, he was a pilot back in the 1920’s until his parents finally found a way to understand what was going on with there son, so the interviewers on TV showed him a picture of a man, in old pilot uniform and cap. So the interviewer asked him, “Do you recognize this man?” The boy said “yes, that’s me!“. So yep. Find these interesting? Please comment if you will! :)
Assuming you are correct in your theory, due to the increasing population of humans on earth wouldn't you think some souls are brand new and have had no past lives?
Thanks so much for breaking down all the symbolism within the game. I knew he wasn't actually awake when he was in his "apartment", but that was all I could figure out. This all makes perfect sense now. And this story is a very sad tale of how the mind works against some. Especially if they are in a coma like state. I myself was put into a chemically induced coma and my dreams weren't this darq (I hope you found the pun as funny as I did...then again I'm a dork so probably not hehe) but they were pretty scary I tell you that. I still have nightmares about them. Anyway at least the game ended on a hopeful note of poor Lloyd being reborn to live again. And hopefully in a lot less pain then he was in this game. 🖤
In regards to the coma, some patients when put into a medically induced coma will experience vivid lucid nightmares they physically can't wake up from. Some people even end up with medical induced PTSD from being quite literally trapped in the nightmare state. It's not something everybody experiences, but a handful of people simply react that way to the drugs.
This is probably one of the most unusual games on steam, unless one takes time to theorize the symbolism around in the game Still, the ending is quite bitter sweet once you watch this video after you finish the game, with mixed emotions, and positive feedback from the community.
Actually, I'm pretty sure the clocks make no sense in the game because they actually make no sense in real life dreams, this is actually a really good way to figure out if you're in a dream, which usually leads to lucid dreaming
I'd like to point out that in the "Theater" level, Lloyd at one point utilizes a snake, which I've heard symbolizes transformation & new life. Maybe it was a foreshadowing of Llyod being reborn?
the last running away part could be all of nurses trying to inject him medicine to save him and the shakes are actually the electric shock which they gave him the old granny I think is his own old grandma who probably was taking care of him and when we see her fall on us before the last dream is when she hugs Lioyd as he is passing away
My theory was that Loyde had some troubles with his family and saw every one as a twisted entity with way to be dept with, which usually ended up in being avoided. And when we see the lady in the wheel chair, I assumed this was his Grandma. After seeing the train sequence of Loyde's Journey, I came to a conclusion that when Loyde went out with his Grandma, and to make sure he didn't have to deal with her, he pushed her under the train out out of fear.
I saw a comment about Lloyd's black eyes, and, I think they're black because he can't truly see anything that's going on in the real world during his journey. So instead, his black eyes adjusted to how his eyes are closed irl but are open to his dream world.
I agree this makes sense I personally thought he lived with the old woman possibly mother or grandma or guardian and she may have been in a train accident or something else that makes her blame him for her condition the main reasons being she shows up the most and she gets up from her wheelchair a few times witch to me felt like lioyd seen her walking around
Personally, I think that everything you said in this video makes sense, and I agree that while Lloyd's story is sad, there is hope for him in the end. I'd buy the game just to support the developer, but me no have dough.
What if he isnt ill and dreaming during the game, but allready breathing his final breath and the "dream" is the last tries of the brain to stay alive and you end up going into the light?
I agree but the end I think he just died and they added that sound to convey the scientific theory or what we socially say as "When someone dies, a new child is born", but not exactly reencarnation, and the light could be the light you see when you die to go to heaven and the journey how we see all our life/memories 'pass by our eyes' before death. This theory is very interesting. Good job!
A person who is in a comatose state can't dream. They have very minimal brain activity. Imagine it like someone who can't react to stimuli around them. That's how a person in a coma state is. They don't go through a REM cycle so they can't dream

Theories bring my mind at ease. Thank you keep it up ❤❤❤
Maybe a reference to the light leaving one's eyes? I know of sicknesses that turn one's eyes yellow, but never heard of blackening, so maybe it's just another metaphorical hint that he's dying, rather than a literal one.
Maybe because when we close our eyes everything's black and that is a representation of Lloyd in the real life where he is always asleep with his eyes closed and everything is black all the time, idk if this makes sense or not
If you read the comic you know he died instantly falling off the tower. So he is DarQ land of the dead, where he try to find a vessel to reborn again. Thats it.
Well done. I don't think people reincarnate though, I'd rather think of the ending as Lloyd passing away peacefully into the afterlife while another life is born in the same hospital, as a life ends, a new one begins.
It’s either him being reborn, or showing the hope of a better life future people can have as medicine develops and cures are developed. If it is reincarnation I guess the second game will be from the reincarnated kid’s point of view?
Wow. I just watched the gameplay and this explanation just made it that much more enjoyable. Sad, but I love understanding nonetheless. New subscriber and I've been binge watching your content all day. Great work!
I always have lucid dreams, and I can usually be like nope and peace out if it's just not interesting to me. But the nightmares, they never let go... I just have to get thru them the best I can
Yeah have to agreed since he experienced nightmares that trauma him in the hospital. I have agree with on this when first saw the full game I had to agree since the lucid dreams are based on your reality and some part of the kid must have been scared of them.

Hey mike I love your theories/story explains. But I just wanted to share some of my own theories! (Quick warning ‘idk what to call this’: I am NOT a expert on brains, illnesses, or bodies! This is just because I had some theories that I wanted to share) 1 - the clogs/gears: this could be Lloyd trying to fix his mind after hearing about his condition/him trying to keep his brain working in some way. 2 - the limbs: the limbs could represent how he feels stuck in his hospital bed/apartment unable to move while others around him can move freely without pain/worry (idk if this is something that does happen to people. I didn’t exactly do my research before typing this. Because if I was worried that I would forget everything so...yea but how I figured this out is the fact that he is so skinny, yea it could be because of his illness but I also think it’s because he can bearly move, so he’s pretty weak) 3 - the clocks: the clocks could represent his fear of running out of time, wasting time, death, etc.(this is also known as Chronophobia or the fear of time.)
I had a dream once, it was wierd but I kind of liked the idea of it. Basically, the dream started when Sonic.EXE came to the house, yes, Sonic.EXE. But rather than being evil, he was quite nice and chill. He even got the job of a lifeguard (it was really a little gif or something of a lifeguard running somewhere, and sonic.exe's face was plastered on the head.) And there were humans that were just spinning around and when one of the spinning people went over the crotch area (yes, the crotch area) it would cut to a scene where Sonic.EXE would say something then "I swear!", i forgot. Basically, it was a dream where sonic.exe became a lifeguard.

Because if I was worried that I would forget everything so...yea but how I figured this out is the fact that he is so skinny, yea it could be because of his illness but I also think it’s because he can bearly move, so he’s pretty weak)
3 - the clocks: the clocks could represent his fear of running out of time, wasting time, death, etc.(this is also known as Chronophobia or the fear of time.)
A dream inside a dream?
*INCEPTION*
Hey man thanks for the explanation the game really freaked me out . I couldn't figure out what was going in though unique and dark love it
Gramophone? Dude that's a Tuba.
It's a tuba. Not a gramophone.
Thank you! I was going to point that out as well. :)
Tuba :D
Okay in my opinion; This channel gives Game theory a run for its money when it comes to horror based theories
Dude ur close to 400k!
A crossover between this and American mcgee's alice would be sick.
Oddly enough I didn't even think of the sickness part in my theories of this, that really makes a lot of sense.
Hey, Superhorrobro, at the end, before that baby's crying was heard, I heart a heart monitor in the background
I think the enemie that comes for lloyd in his is sleep is the mother trying to wake him up
There are more showdown bandit screenshots on steam. Check it out.

SuperHorrorBro: Ah yes the Gramophone-man!

The creator is making a dlc for more levels not sure if it’ll effect the story so far
