I’m probably biased because chains of olympus was my first god of war game but i love that game. The combat is great, the story is great, especially the ending of it. I like the fact that kratos has to make that hard choice to leave his daughter, top tier PSP game, a hood classic.
I may not agree with everything you just said but don't get me wrong, this is still one of the best PSP games and I agree it is what I'd consider to be a classic for the system. I may not love the game like I once did but I still had a good time playing today
Gauntlet of Zeus is undoubtedly the most underrated and outright FUN to use alternate weapon in any God of War game, in my opinion. That loud “CLANG” sound with an enemy literally flying to the end of the screen never got old. Beyond satisfying. I’ve seen reviews that call it bland, which I feel is insane. Did we play the same game? The Gaunlet is what the Barbarian King’s Hammer in 2 SHOULD have been.
9:32 why is this laughable? I think it was really clever, showing how hard for Kratos to let go of his daughter through a familiar mechanic, which we always use while wrestling gigantic Cyclops, it just shows the amount of strength Kratos needs to let go of the most precious thing in his life.
Here's what I'll say about that moment because I agree with what you're saying. What makes the moment less impactful for me is the qte. It makes the animation feel janky and for me it just takes away from a moment that didn't need gameplay involvement. The button prompt doesn't add anything to this scene like they do in the gameplay. I think it's an important moment, I just don't think it's executed properly
I'm really excited to see how Ghost of Sparta holds up! I may not quite hold it in such high regards (for me nothing beats God of War 3) but I remember adoring the game nonetheless
Sweet. Funny thing, this wasn't only the first game I ever played on the PSP, but also my first ever God of War game. It wasn't until 2011 that I managed to get a PS2 and both GoW 1 and 2, and by that time I had played both PSP titles.
I like remembering a game from when I was younger and then TH-caming it and getting to watch a video essay on it it it ain’t 20 min or more I don’t click on it
great video. After having watched the video, and not played the game in over a decade, I will say I definitely remembered it being better than what it was. Still, handing my friends my psp so they could get a taste of this game back in 08' was very special.
It may not have been as good as I remembered but I still have a wealth of special memories with this game and it's still incredibly impressive we got this sort of game on the PSP!
Playing it again now on the vita. Such a great game. Insanely fluid. Epic feeling with battles and monsters wreaking havoc in the background. I prefer Ghost of Sparta but what they could pull off on PSPs back then was incredible
I love chains of Olympus so much it was my first experience and the first god of war game I’ve played I even remember the first time a played it was at a Best Buy when I was probably around 5-7 years old and it was when stores still had the consoles out so people can try them out the first level will always be memorable for me second time I played it was on the psp of one of my godmothers sons will always keep this game close to my heart and stored into my brain forever
I completely understand the love and nostalgia you have for this game! Despite it not living up to my own lofty expectations this time around my nostalgia still tells me this game is incredible due to how much I played it back in the day!
Excellent vidéo as always , my biggest grip with chains of olympus is how morpheus was hyped up to be this op final boss , but naah we got this suicidal chick
Tbh the elevator with the harpies is an amazing way to get red orbs if you spam the spinning blades move you can get the number of hits to go up a ton. You actually lose out by just killing them with grab
All i remember about this game is if you level up hades weapon to the max it made the last boss battle trivial which makes sense and just makes the hades ecounter in three oh so delicious. A lot didn't play this one though so may have missed that connection in three lol
I once played all the God of War games back-to-back and, despite this game being made by another studio, it honestly didn't feel much different in terms of gameplay. The only small difference I noticed about the PSP titles is that they seemed a lot easier than their main console counterparts.
Great video Chief! Man you know as forgettable as they seemed, I have to admit the spin-offs did have story concepts that are interesting at face value..but get limited by their circumstances… Like I can’t wait for you to review G.O.W ascension because to me personally truly enjoyed it! Even if the story began to chip away the more I thought deeply about it. Still the stories had potential…I wished I had a psp I would’ve probably played Chains of Olympus myself if I did. Also Krato’s Blades of Chaos…their just like Isaac Clarke’s Plasma Cutter in Dead Space ^_^ Tried and True and always reliable.
Happy to hear you enjoyed mate, thank you as always for your support! The spin-offs may not be perfect but they don't deserve to be forgotten, they're just limited by circumstance more often than not. I'm really excited to get to Ghost of Sparta and Ascension though, remember them very fondly. Also, I love that analogy spot on mate!
Glad you're enjoying the series mate 🙏 I love the Tell-tale games such as Wolf Among Us, Batman and Tales from the Borderlands but especially the Walking Dead! I've actually been wanting to revisit these games for a hot minute now so maybe I'll chuck up a poll after God of War is done and dusted and see what everyone thinks 😊
@@MayorHairBear that’s exciting stuff!! I’ve played their Batman, TWD and a little of their GOTs. However, their TWD was masterful. Spoiler alert TWD already has my vote 😅
I played the game on hard and man please stick with normal if you actually wanna have a good time. As a kid, I loved the game probably cause I played it on either normal or even easy. But coming back years later thinking " Yea im an adult now, I can take on this game on hard mode easily" man oh man i was wrong. Fight with Charon and Final boss fight with Persephone felt so cheap and cheesy almost making it seem impossible. When Charon hits you with his ability once, it takes away almost 75% of you health + stunned; its just so unbalanced.
Already working on it mate, asked that same question to my subscribers a few weeks ago and that video will release after the God of War 3 Retrospective ☺
@@MayorHairBear on that note I think there was like a third Person Total War game on PS2 which also felt like 300 Check it out if you're interested Edit: PS2 it was
It blows my mind how Ready At Dawn pulled off a God of War game on portable so well. Excellent video as always my friend.
I couldn't agree more, what Ready At Dawn achieved here is special! Glad you enjoyed the video mate!

If mash O to leave your daughter isn't funny idk what is.
Now...remove the context and show it to anyone
It was totally funny as fuck 😂
cant wait for ghost of sparta retrospective, it's my favorite of all the series including 2018s
I'm really excited to see how Ghost of Sparta holds up! I may not quite hold it in such high regards (for me nothing beats God of War 3) but I remember adoring the game nonetheless
I wholeheartedly share your opinion with Zeus's gauntlet. I remember enjoying giving caron the payback he deserved 😎
Such a bad ass weapon, really has a good feeling of oomph about it!
Sweet. Funny thing, this wasn't only the first game I ever played on the PSP, but also my first ever God of War game. It wasn't until 2011 that I managed to get a PS2 and both GoW 1 and 2, and by that time I had played both PSP titles.
This was my first PSP game as well! Great first game to play for the system and a good God of War game to introduce you to the series
@@MayorHairBear Sure was. I remember getting my PSP taken away for a day after I got caught playing this game in my French class. XD

Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta were amazing games
I remember finish chains in the hardest difficulty...the way i cheesed the enemies with the air grapple 😂
Yeah I remember cheesing the hell out of this game to beat it on the hardest difficulty. Air grappling was a Gods send!
Been replaying it right now and the air grab is OP as hell. You have so much air time compare to the last 2 games and the hitbox is so generous.

Hell yeah mate! 🙌
I liked how its events were mentioned in 3.

Always appreciate the support mate! Yeah Morpheus was a big let down, would of made for an epic final fight
It's a really nice touch to the video that you put Calliope playing her flute in the background, nicely done mayor.

100% agree, they don't feel any different to play which is a huge accomplishment but they are much easier.
PSP really had some underrated ass games on it especially the one taking place in mainline song console series like uncharted on PSP
I loved my PSP, so many under appreciated games on the system that I'd like to cover in the future!
Awesme vid man! Can you plz make a retrospective of that 2015 game Mad Max? I think that game kinda slipped under the radar.
Absolutely I can! I loved that game, one of my favourites of the year actually.
chains of olympus was my first god of war game and it was a great game. banger
This is the only God Of War game I've platinumed haha. Ready At Dawn did a great job as I would have thought that Santa Monica made it
Couldn't agree more and right! How impressive a feat. is that, you'd think this was made by the original developers

You should make a video for resident evil village!
