These are exactly the same steps I learned when I was exhibition dancing, the disco dances, and the jitterbug, only slower. I used to dance in a group in Toronto and we danced, cha cha, foxtrot, tango and the same steps we used as they are using for many dances. It isn't just for this dance.

Perhaps you don't understand the dance - it's not the jitterbug and there isn't a lot of hip swinging in shag ... and he is also trying to show you the purest movement uncluttered with flourish. Look at them today: bit.ly/1inZxTh .. mind blowingly good ...
LOL they are Much improved since this beta was made and went on to win numerous shag and open swing competitions. Check out some of their videos from the 2000s. There's one from 2013 where he does the splits while pushing 70!

Swing
Swing dances are similar as they are all danced to 4/4 time. Shag is a bit slower, like "andante".
I never rewind the youtube videos. I save time by letting the next guy do it.

Because it's fun
try it and see. You have to move your feet in any dance.
