Thanks for the knowledge. May you all continue to be a blessing to me and others. I’m in South Florida and love to find growers in our region. Our weather is really different from all others. Is there any ways or plants that deter raccoons to keep them out of the garden???I’m still learning with my squash so far only male flowers and some white spots. So I’ll be applying what you said in this video. Thanks Blessings

Once again I can't express enough just how much I appreciate the time and effort that you put into making these videos. They are probably the best tutorials about gardening I've found on TH-cam. I know you've mentioned in the past how time-consuming it is to have to piece these time clips together, but I hope you please keep doing it exactly as you have been, if at all possible, please. I'm a struggling gardener who is now retired and should have learned a lot more by now, but I'm grateful that I'm learning so much from these videos. There is no way I could ever say thank you enough. God Bless you....

Native Floridian here growing south of you in west central Florida and love your videos. It took me a long time to figure squash out...still learning. Today I learned about lime in the hole for repelling critters! This fall I planted 40 beautiful tomato plants (that I had patiently grown from seed) each one set on a raw egg (I have chickens) placed in each hole and wouldnt you know the next morning a racoon came in and ripped out every single one of my tomatoes to get at those eggs! I hope he had a heck of a belly ache! My tomatoes survived though. Thanks for the informative video, once again. We need more good FL growing videos because though its all I know its very different from everywhere else.

If you're talking about the vine borer....research their breeding season in your location and I recommend BT for prevention. Bacteria injection starves the larvae.

@@ritalewis9024 fill a sprayer with dawn soap & water. 1tbsp per gallon. When you water in the morning, you will see them run. You must spray the bug & not the plant only although it won’t hurt the plant. Look on the back of the leaves for babies & eggs. Spray the babies & either squish the eggs or break off that part of the leaf. When you first see the “sawdust” on the main stem take an exacto knife & make a slice just above where you see the hole then I take a metal shish k bob skewer & dig out the larva from the squash borer. Cover the scar up with a mound of miracle grow potting soil & keep watered. This is the only real issues we gave In Texas with squash. Good luck!

I naturally love to garden and must learn the best ways to garden the easy way and the natural way due to my health conditions. God is using your videos to teach me and so many how to grow our own healthy food. I used to be a commercial farmer-a completely different animal, even though I grew squash, melons, tomatoes, and peppers. It’s a different world than backyard, natural gardening. I have learned and enjoyed watching you and Ms Nancy in your garden. I planted summer squash last yr and have no success. Being in Florida, I will sure follow your advice in growing them. Thank you and God Bless!

Thank you Hollis, I grew it last year just one plant for me and my parents and we got more squash than we could even eat. Love summer squash, I do have one question for you? Do you recommend growing potatoes in buckets and what size? I only Jane two raised beds and I use it mainly for my cabbage and lettuce and onions and things like that. What are your thoughts on then? I saw your video a few weeks back on potatoes but do you think I could grow them to have enough to put up for a family of three.

I was inspired after watching Hollis' video on how to grow potatoes in buckets. I gave it a go and planted four 5 gallon buckets. It was so much fun to watch the progress of the plants and then to harvest. I got a lot of tasty potatoes out of those 4 buckets. It is definitely worth a go. Follow his directions and you will no doubt have great success.

I've been battling vine borer moths since the end of March here in SE Texas. Today, I pulled off over a hundred eggs from 5 plants. At first they only went after the zucchini but they found the yellow squash a couple weeks ago. Found a couple eggs on the butternuts and none on the cucumbers ... yet. Just started harvesting a few squash last week, and knock wood, don't see any indication that any borers have made it into my plants. It's been a weird spring here with the drought and I wonder if that's why the vine borers are worse than usual. I've about enjoyed all I can stand of de-egging twice a day. Should be fun when the squash bugs show up. LOL

Hollis, can you give me a hint why my yellow squash is getting yellow leaves? I put some blood meal around them and i try to not over water…. But it has been over 103 degrees here in Tx for the last 18 days…. I think I am loosing them.. they havent produce that much, but some.

I have learned so much from you and your videos with your wife and bing bing love him. I’m in Southwest Florida. I know we’re gonna be a little different. Definitely zones, but I wish there was way you could publish your notebook. You make them so clear and precise and I’m an audio visual learner as well so this is wonderful

Thank you for talking about growing in Florida, it is always confusing as the best of types to grow here and how to. After just watching your video on growing Elephant Garlic, I just ordered my Elephant Garlic from Hoss and excited!
