its called living on a tectonic plate fault line nothing to do with climate, every large quake can shift the levels of land whole coral reefs were raised during the 2004 quake in Indonesia and land thrown into the ocean in a matter of minutes
Why are all the rivers and beaches in my country all still at the same height that they have always been then? The most fundamental thing about water is that it meets a level meaning it wont be higher in one spot and lower in another. Did it ever occur to this guy that maybe his island is sinking because its land is eroding?
I know the Maldives have the same problem. They looove getting foreign aid, but don't like admitting that a sandy beach isn't a great place to build an enourmous commercial concrete port.
I myself have seen the rising sea level. I grew up in a rural coastal village. As a kid I can still remember the road in between our village and the sea. It had been eaten completely by the sea 10 years ago. Now the houses are going to be the next victims, the houses that used to be ancestral houses of Spanish settlers are being chipped away by the sea slowly. My village will be gone maybe 20 years from now. The village that our ancestors since 1700s called home.
Monsieur le ministre des affaires étrangères devrait demander un abaissement négatif de la température mondiale et non une limite à la hausse de la température
The rate is at centimeters per year on average. Multiply that by 40 or so years to account for the dillydalling since the 1980s and you get half a meter of sea level rise

@@user-kn2oc5ps3h The industrial revolution was phenomenal. The problem is dirty money. I’ll be honest, he’s probably standing at high tide in an island that is sinking. However sea levels have risen a half foot overall (taking in account for rising sinking land and tide cycles) and these islands are in trouble. I just worry about the accuracy of the water level because I know climate “skeptics” will criticize it.
Sorry but isn't part of the problem with countries like Tuvalu and Kiribati erosion of the soil than rising of sea levels? Because Atolls are not really "islands" because if it is true that the sea levels are rising shouldn"t all countries in the Pacific Islands experimenting this? But I don't see Hawaii, French Polynesia, Easter Island, Samoa, Tonga, Fiji. C'mon man my country sank for couple of times throughout the history and that had nothing to do with human factor. Climate was and will always be a volatile thing I wonder what our "altruistic philanthropists" are going to do about people of Tuvalu? 🤔 I guess they will blame us for their loss while flying in private jets.
Whilst true, that study was criticised by the Tuvalu PM for not contextualising the situation. As most of that new land is not habitable and there has still been sea level rise around the islands over the past 30 years, leading to salt water intrusion of drinkable water.
The water level rises because the north and south ice is melting. This is attributed by our wobbling axis of rotation, the fact that ice melts, and the fact that humans are accelerating this natural process. Climate change is a natural thing; out of our entire world’s existence there has been 5 or so ice ages and we are still technically in one because of our north and south poles being frozen. Ice ages eventually come to an end and then the cycle will just restart. There are things we can do to create a decline in our global shift, but it will be inevitably occurring.

Question - is it sinking or is it sea level rise? I work for a ship building company and I haven't noticed and sea level rise yet.
It's sea level rise, due to increasing temperatures more ice from the poles are melting which causes an increase in water
The rate is at centimeters per year on average. Multiply that by 40 or so years to account for the dillydalling since the 1980s and you get half a meter of sea level rise

Or it's just high tide lol. Where I live high tide and low tide can be a 6ft difference between each other.
