Love this!
@@AndyBirdBuilds I think I missed it. Did you do anything other than paint on them to protect them from weather?
Fiberglass for the elements would have been ideal.
I think I saw bigger letters in the Netherlands but they almost definitely weren't made out of wood so in my case title is accurate :d
lol, I had a customer try to get me to make letters like that, 6 of them, 4 feet tall..... with a $400 budget! I'm happy I came to the same design conclusions you did, but I'm not happy I spent about $20 hours stressing out about how I'd do it using the thinnest and cheapest materials I could... before the client pulled the plug on the project. Never again will I spend so much time trying to accommodate someone who doesn't have the money to get what they want made!
What did you weigh the letters down with?
Wouldn't want a strong gust to hit that T without something stabilising it
Since they were 18" wide, they were pretty stable on their own. I climbed on the S to test it. The S and T have 36'' x 36'' bases added to the bottom, I didn't show that in the video.
@@AndyBirdBuilds I could see the base in video but wasn't sure if it was some sort of rubber mat for the ground or actually attached. Makes sense if it was attached
Pricing these types of projects can be tricky since they are basically prototypes. Was this for a church? It would be fitting.
I agree on the pricing. There are a lot of things to consider. It was for a church conference.
What would you say
"Yes"
completely forgetting my compulsory desire to make every one a great deal, without a second thought on the time and expense it would cost me.
Your client is lucky to have found you, I would have said Nah to that project.
I get that. I really like building unique things. Ill probably never build anything quite like it again. Why would you say no?
You might not be comfortable with doing this so I understand if you don't do it, but could you do a breakdown on the business/finance side of this project?
Why not use bendable plywood for the curves?
@@AndyBirdBuilds I meant actual bendable plywood because it would still be thick. You still got it done! That's all that matters!! They look great
Great job man! Are you worried about the end grain of the plywood on the 'S' being exposed to the elements? I guess enough of the wood filler and pain probably helps out in that regard.
Thanks! I was originally a little worried, but after the wood filler and exterior paint I wasn't anymore. Plus, I told the client that if they keep up with repainting them every other year, they'll last longer.
Thanks for watching! Check out this video where I built 100 cheese trays th-cam.com/video/mSOqYZ2INJ4/w-d-xo.html
