The readings at the end were so good. Great discussion.

Thanks! Such a lyrical book, isn't it? You know, it's always interesting coming back to this video. It seems so long ago. In many ways I wish I'd stuck with this image background format. I don't know what I was thinking when I started recording in poor lighting conditions. Oh well. Thanks again for watching.

Thanks, Leila. Well, in that case I can only apologise for the lack of reviews of late! I hope to record more soon. But yes, The King of Elfland's Daughter is a gorgeous book.

This was a great review. The description of Dunsany’s style and the quality of his writing in King of Elfland’s Daughter is perfect. “An ethereal dream.” The passages you chose are perfect. Looking forward to checking out more of your reviews.

Thanks. I've reviewed The King of Elfland's Daughter three times as it became one of the primary books of this channel. My twin did a guest review of it in the Scottish Highlands and, most recently, I did an in-depth analysis of it in my thesis video 'Wonder's Native Haunt'. Thanks again for watching, and I hope you enjoy the other reviews.

Your book selection reminds me of a prolific and notorious fantasy reviewer on Goodreads J G keely, who loves this book and others you reviewed. He had a blog about world building and fantasy writing called stars beetles and fools.

Indeed. I'd seen that blog and list relatively recently and was surprised how much it corresponds to my own preferences in fantasy. Thanks for watching.

Hey nice video bro! May this be the first of many! I'm a writer too, love writing fantasy. Might give this book a try. Subscribed! Been posting some similar videos too, we should support each other :D

Thanks, Joshua. I didn't expect to get any comments on my first review video, nor a new subscriber. I highly recommend the book. And certainly, I'll check out your channel.

I haven't finished this book yet and its proving a difficult read. It reads more like the telling of the legend and not a story. I think I'll have to read it again after I finish because I'm confused by a lot and I think details are going by me without my notice.

It's a fairly straightforward story, but it's takes a bit of effort to get into the style, especially if you haven't read older works before. I think you have though. It might just be a difference in taste or something. I can answer any questions you have, I think. It's more about the atmosphere and the contemplation of time. Obviously everyone's taste is different, but if you loved the Silmarillion, you should be able to find this quite easy. I remember being somewhat confused at the start but it eventually becomes clearer. It's really just about one man's journey into Elfland and his quest to find it again. That's all that matters. I hope you find it more enjoyable by the end.

@@thitherword He just managed to find his way back. And at this point I'm very interested and want to see what happens. How can I describe this correctly..? The book goes on as if stating facts. That doesn't mean bad. I think it means if you aren't tuned in just right, you would be out of key. I think the comparison to the Silmarillion doesn't really work for me. I was enthralled by the first sentence.
I don't mind reading it again. Its not long. I really think details just flew by.

@@eredamlug I wasn't really making a comparison to The Silmarillion, just saying that the plot shouldn't be difficult if you can absorb and enjoy Tolkien's works. Stating facts, though--I'm not sure what you mean. Do you just mean the older style of writing where time passes and events are described in a kind of omniscient narration? In a way there isn't much of a plot in Elfland's Daughter other than [SPOILERS] the village that asked for a magic lord received "overmuch magic" in the end. The mundane village now has to accept living shoulder to shoulder with Elfland. They have to deal with the flowing over of fantasy and magic from the threshold into their world.

@@thitherword No, you weren't making a comparisons with the Silmarillion. Sorry. I'm not expressing myself correctly. It feels like I'm being told what happened without the story. So, I just want to be clear and say I am interested and thats why I want to read it again.
I stopped at the Spoilers. Thats a no read zone for me man. I'm glad you labeled it because I definitely don't want any spoilers.

@@eredamlug I understand. I might do another video at some point explaining why I like the story so much. And apologies for the spoilers, I think I misread one of your messages thinking that you'd actually finished it or something. The spoiler isn't really a spoiler per say, it's more about the overall theme or meaning of the book, but you're right to be cautious. Anyway, thanks for watching my reviews. I might be recording another one tonight.
