Hi Paul. I'm a guitarist that, for over 10 years, tried his best to ignore music theory altogether (excluding the pentatonic scale) until a legendary guitar teacher decided to show me some tasty licks I knew and explain what made them special in the context of music theory. This video brought me back to those lessons because he did that exact Eagles riff to demonstrate a certain 'Pacific island voicing' and then played it over the Hotel California backing track. I wish I'd realized earlier, but this sort of theory is something every guitarist needs to know. Thank you for making this video.

Hi Paul! I know it's very unlikely you're gonna read this, but i'd like you to know how much you had influenced me (even though you don't know yet) to play again. I was more than 5 years away from guitar (I even sell all my equips & guitars), 'cause I had problems with band members, and It makes me loose some friends. But watching your videos, my passion of playing the instrument i love so much is back again plus makes me wanna be better every day. Today, I play in a trio & played at my wedding weeks ago. If one day you read it, I hope it encourage you to continue being this awesome player, teacher but above all this, a person, which makes me sit in front of the computer and admire a guy who lives so far away from me. SO glad you featured julian lage. In my opinion the best guitarist out right now. Nocturne is a great song. Ryland is also great. I saw julian at a small bar in LA in February and he absolutely demolished it. Fantastic.
