- I know this is a bad idea! I can't pass up a good deal. The problem is the good deal doesn't run and it's 1500 miles away. So it's time to fix up the old broken down trailer and hit the road. What a fun trip, and what a cool project I drag back.

Dave ' i've got too many projects so i sold Louis Vuiton to a buddy ' ... also Dave ' i've bought a new project ' ..... lol , it's fine we can all relate
It’s a sickness
@@thedirtheadshedit is a sickness and one that myself and most your viewers fully understand.
lol
@@thedirtheadshedwhen it’s called a “collection” then there is no rules.
That’s what I told my dad when he said he thinks he has too many chainsaws.
Hench the reason he is great on youtube.... lol
I remember reading the magazines as that project vehicle was built. Nostalgia overload!
I'm no Nostradamus, but you might want to have a look at the bearings and seals in the other axle on the trailer. :)
I always look forwards to your build videos.
I will likely swap them out before next trip
Dave. Weld some 3/4 ton full floater axle hubs from some dead dana's onto that dead axle.
I don’t have any of those
Awesome new addition to the fleet! Glad to see more Jeep stuff and especially a nostalgic rig! Hopefully more YJ videos too don't forget the ole square headlights. Keep up the good work Dave!
I spent a couple hours on Friday helping my friend build a new axle for his tent trailer. It got bent af under 6' of snow last winter.
Super fun stuff..
That had to be heavy
That's awesome. I can't wait to see the Double Ender come back to life!
Cool addition to the fleet! Glad it found its way home!!
It’s a fun project so far!
Seems like no one over here on the east coast/south east knows about the milestar tires. I put a set of 35" Patagonia AT-R's on my F-350. I love them. They're not too loud on the street. And helps me not get stuck in the Florida sugar sand.
They are pretty good.
I did an axle change on my camper in a campground because it did the same thing. It was less than $800 for a complete plug and play axle.
More junk to clutter up the shop.....EXCELLENT!!!
Looking forward to some more awesome buildingfabwrenching!!! Peace!
Great video man! Love the adventure and the fix! Looking forward to you and Cam collaborating! Keep crushing it!!!
Nice project
I'm curious to see those Pats perform. Id love to see a review on how they handle on road as well. UA should be a good test.
I had the same thing happen to my trailer in bufu Kentucky, moving home after active duty.
Good ol boy with a shop next to a gas station let me borrow a jack and tools. Tractor Supply in town had the axle on hand.
It was a Saturday too…definitely thanked my stars.
Heat with a torch!!
Thanks
Super rad new project Dave! Glad you made it safely, can’t wait to see where it takes you!
Yesssss!!! I’m so happy you got that thing.
7:58 this is why I love your videos so much. So freaken relatable, this is exactly how everything I do goes, 5 trips to the tool box to get one bolt loose.
I said this before seeing you get a socket wrench, two impacts and finally a torch, lol... I felt your pain so much.
Support
Thanks
I sleep the same way on road heck that's a few hundred bucks for parts and fuel, my friend !
Holy crap what an awesome rig Dave I'm excited to see more on this one for sure..
I need to go out and grease my trailer bearings asap!
Nice! Got in real quick on the third
??
Love it ❤
Thanks
Dave!! Loving seeing the double front Jeep again! Loved seeing MazGrande in this one also. And I love seeing a peak of the Trooper. How about a follow up on every project - the low rider, the mustang, mom’s spaghetti, etc….. love you bro - you’re my inspiration!
Shirt - bought. Watching buddy bearings was a thing when we owned a boat. You just hauled. We were immersing at least twice. People ask why I have a grease gun in my truck. “Just in case”.
Yep. Got to be prepared. They like to go quick
i love that Jeep, always thought it should be called PALENDROME.
That would have been perfect
I wondered what happened to that rig. Push me pull you. The first time I met Fred was with that vehicle. He brought it into the dealership I was working at in SLO. They were fighting ABS issues with the rear axle. I remember seeing it around Paso and Atascadero. Then finding out Fred was practicing my neighbor when he lived in Atascadero. I still see Fred around as I work in Paso and his shop is on the west side. Have fun with it.
Wish I had known you were gonna be down here....I would have driven the hour to LA.
It was a whirlwind of a trip
Front hitch to manuever that trailer around.....great video too!😉
My buddy and i are putting all new suspension under out trailer next week. Must be that time of year 😂
Dave i am so happy that you bought one of the motortrend cars. I thought Fred and Dave got them all.
Cool video…and really cool score!
It’s still summer. Welding in flip flops.
Now we see the real reason you got rid of the V10 😂
Yep 👍
Dude that thing is rad
I hope they sell you the samurai next. It needs a good home
They gave it to a school auto tech class . I missed it
@@thedirtheadshed those lucky kids. At least it didn't go to scrap. Or not directly to scrap. One day my front lawn samurai will be half that cool I hope.
🦅🇺🇸💪😎👍 good deal something new
Spokane to LA via Montana is an odd route.
Did you have side quests to achieve?
Most car trailers out there are severely under serviced. Usually people use the trailer on a long trip then put it away for a year without any maintenance. I've found that you should check the bearings every year, for grease and adjustment. Good job Dave, your fix will give you many years of good service.
Heck yeah Dave!!! Welcome back! Time for some carne asada fries!!
I liked that old Jeep build. I'm shocked Motor Trend still had that Jeep. So cool that its your's now. Excited to see how you set it up. Following the new Adventure page, should be cool..
It’s gonna be a fun build
Dang. That ugly double ender still lives? You guys must have done a solid build on it. It’s been a while since I have seen paint faded that badly.
Curious to see what you do with that puppy.
It’s coming along already
Thanks!
No problem!
Icon buys an Icon W
Well did you stop at the taco bus in Dillon MT like I suggested?
I’ll have to check it out next time
put a trailer hitch on the front of 1 of your trucks or jeeps for moving trailers around, you will love it, cool new jeep
Dave stretch that Jeep and make it awesome!
Oh, 48th or something…
Yup.
just curious why through montana to socal?
From the thumbnail im guessing its the double front end jeep built for ultimate adventure
Edit: I was right! I always liked it just because it was different, can't wait to see what you do with it! Are you going to have rear steer like it had originally? I feel it's only right!
Is that the same jeep 4XFred built with 2 front ends?
That’s the one!
Throw a camper top -truck cap- on the f350 and grab an air mattress save money on sleeping arrangements. Sweet project also cant wait to see more.
I think you lost a wheel 😂
Is the wheel falling off a sign?
Hahah. I think it is
RAD!
Think i would have said screw it and cut the u bolts with a zip disc :)
😂
Dave would u be willing to help ls swap a 80 square body 😂😂😂😂
Freiburger not Freiburger? :)
Dave, what's that roof from? Looks like 56 Vicki?
56 mercury Montclair
@@thedirtheadshed are you putting it on your Merc?
Yeah. Thats the plan. We will see if I make it reality
@@thedirtheadshed that'll be rad to see that car hardtopped!
tis ugly but very cool!!
It’s a good starting point
its funny how us gear heads watch videos of other people struggling on their junk but we also just procrastinate about our projects and our junk ! love the videos man
I resemble that. 😅😅😅😅
Dude, you’re motoring toward 150k followers! Wishing you all the best, hopefully you’ll be able to quit the day job at some point if you feel like it, but please take care of yourself first. I worry about a lot of TH-camrs whose lives seem to get crushed feeding the algorithm/content machine. As a consumer what you’re doing now is great. We don’t need daily content or anything crazy.
This one a week thing is super hard to keep up with
@@thedirtheadshed You just keep doing what you can, when you can! It's all worth the wait. Keep some time for you and the family as well.
Yeah, do what you can. Those DED Extras were pretty cool.
@@thedirtheadshedthere's people with over a million followers who upload once a month and stay at top. Do one every two weeks if it suits you better!
Got my shirt, awesome quality, wore it on a trip and had like 10 people tell me how awesome it was! Thanks for the quality, and your buddies design is Attention Grabbing
That’s great! Thank you
I can see the Freiberger influence in the footwear choice... Nice roadtrip!!!
you need that harbor freight sponsorship
Dave...newer subscriber here...great channel...could you possibly show your fleet or do you have a video where you talk about all of them ?
That tire falling off when you were backing in looked almost comical 😂 that jeep was always one of my favorite vehicle on UA. Super rad!
Dave, you keep rockling your channel. You are the real deal my brother.
Thanks so much
That thing is iconic! I remember watching the build back in the day
That trailer totally needs a 4 link….
So the real question: Are you planning to take the front off of the back of that Jeep?
Cause it looks ridiculous!
NEVER a dull moment with Dave !
OSHA approved steel toed welding flip flops!
Learnt that from friedburger
Dave, I’m afraid that Frieberger has corrupted your choice of footwear. Don’t be afraid to reach out to Fred for advice on this matter.
Could the different bolt patterns actually casue any issues? (other than a spare mismatch)
Nah. It’s fine, just inconvenient
The Off Road Pacer!!!! Under the tarp!!!! I love that thing, also really though Fred or Pewe had the orange 2 headed UA Jeep. Glad to see it getting a new lease on life outside of MT.
Yep! One at a time
I missed why you went to montana when you were headed to LA?
Wait! All the experience, the master fab monster, and he goes for air ratchet u- bolts? Rusty u- bolts?! Dave are you ok?😅😅
I wanted to give it a shot . I also didn’t want to burn doe neighborhood down. Wrong time of year to be messing with a torch outside
Are those fire rated flip flops? You let a fella talk you into cutting a fuel line with a cutoff wheel and now you’re invincible? Safety third!
Bionic flops
I just hauled a wrecked vanagon from Washington State to get a complete Subaru EJ25 setup and lost a trailer hub made of aluminum that broke in pieces. Fortunately I had a spare steel hub. No idea why there was one aluminum hub on there. Electric brake wiring burnt through due to a borrower of the car trailer shorting out that wiring slightly and stopped working while we were hauling. No fun to be on I-5 without trailer brakes. Downhill at speed tends to see the trailer start to push the tow vehicle and without brakes you can't correct sway and possible jacknife, and stopping time is much longer in emergencies. Then a horrible accident 10 miles ahead stopped traffic south for 6 hours! No trailer brakes made the sudden stop exciting. I'm sure glad I kept the extra hubs when I added the drum brakes with integrated hubs to the front axle!!!
Sounds sketchy!
You bought the Pushme-Pullyou!
Thank you for keeping it real!!! I learn from it every time! BTW got the shirt - NICE! I think Finnegan would approve!
If you’re just using a vehicle to jockey trailers around the yard, put them on a front hitch.
Good call
Dave, why on earth did you drive through Montana to go to LA? It's an extra like 200 miles. Typically you would go down through the Tri Cities and take 97 through Oregon. Are you wanted in OR or something? Great video, thanks.
Because it’s only 20 minutes longer and you don’t have to pay California gas prices
this project is going to be fun I can tell. I saw another video recently about cleaning out the Motortrend storage facility glad you were able to get this project for your channel.
Yeah. When I bought my 1st ute trailer. I repacked the bearing every year. Had it close to 18 years. No problems 4 trips to Ak. and back to Wa. and 1trip to WY. When It did fail. The A frame folded like a tilt bed at my mailbox turning in with a 472 Cadillac in the back . Oh and one trip up the Dalton hwy to deadhorse and back to kenai penn.
Sounds like it got some serious use
In the recent video where you painted your friend's green JKU wheels red, you mentioned you've never had a JK..... problem solved!
Foreshadowing!
Torch is not wrong to grab first when removing u - bolts!
I agree. I just didn’t want to use it outside since we are super high fire danger
I miss watching Dirt Everyday Episodes. Anyway, I see Cummins on the side. I assume it's a diesel. Excited to see what you do with the Orange.
Cummins just sponsored one of the UA trips. This has the stock 3.6 gas engine in it
Dave I remember reading the article in 4Wheel and off road(?) some time in the 90’s that’s awesome you should fix it up a give it away to a lucky subscriber. What I mean by a lucky subscriber is you should give it to me.
I’m in it too deep now!
This is so cool. I wasn’t aware of the fate of “UA” and didn’t know what you meant by the Unreal Adventure. Trent and Christian’s new channel came up in my suggestions and now I know. The MT horse has been beaten to death but I’m glad UA will live on away from MT. I assume the Unreal channel will have the official Unreal Adventure video series?
Yep. All of the official videos will be on that new channel
I thought I was the only one that said ... and WAY too often I might add .. "Why can't it just be Simple" you said it slightly different but it made me laugh .. Then I thought .. Damn Dave and I have a few things in common.. I thought I was the only one making those kinds of bonehead mistakes.. putting the right sized axle on and forgetting the importance of the bolt pattern
It happens to all of us!
In my opinion, there is never a reason to drive into LA.😂 I forgot how hideous that thing looks, but I’m sure you’ll give it the magic touch. It needs some Mazgrande and Mom’s Spaghetti kind of love.
It’s kind of heading that direction
Fire hatchet makes quick work of bolts! Just have a hose ready to extinguish all the success!😂
True
This job is easy just cut then with death wheel or sawzal . I could swap axle in 1 hr tops aslong as its the write length. I will say i build stock trailers for a couple years. Long ago in New Mexico at Coffee Trailers. I learned alot from Max and his dad.
Max’s dad is a good dude he
I'm confused as to why you decided to go the most difficult route taking out the u bolts. Idk about all cordless impacts but with mine I put it on forward and breaks them faster Than cutting.
These weren’t rusty enough to break, just be a pain
It’s funny how people don’t maintain something simple as their wheel bearings when that wheel comes off on the highway can easily kill somebody and that’s the way you have to think you have to keep up on that stuff
I greased it right before that trip. Some things just fail
Dude, you really tow cars around in the mountains where you live with no brakes on the trailer.
Didn’t even know it was legal to not have trailer brakes on a trailer that big / rated to carry that much weight.
It has trailer brakes on the other axle
