I’ll have to pick up a smaller box but I’m wondering can I just do that split anytime I’m ready or do I need to have clean cups does the hive need to show signs of swarming is there a certain time of year so many questions
@@ozarkshomesteadandfarm there don't need to be queen cups that's just a bonus . And I make splits anytime between March and July so they have time to build before my winter here. I do two frames of brood ,eggs, larve and one frame of food : honey ,pollen. With a entrance reducer so they can't protect the hive .
Very helpful! I wish I had watched this a week ago as I feel I made many of the same mistakes.
Thanks for watching and commenting, I tell you B’s aren’t as easy as it seems I’m in my third year and I’m still making mistakes
When doing walk away splits go smaller scale I use 4 frame boxes .

As long as there's eggs they will make queen cells . My splits tend to make 15 to 25 queens in each split
One important factor if I split my hive it's because there packed , every frame is packed . That's the options splits or add more room
