Chinese President Xi Jinping is to pay a state visit to Hungary from May 8 to 10 as both countries mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties. With at least 16 bilateral agreements being slated ahead of Xi's visit, relations face important new opportunities and will be pushed to a higher level. CMG's Zou Yun sat down with Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó to discuss Hungary's economic, trade and cultural ties with China as well as flagship projects under construction such as the China-built Belgrade-Budapest railway. "We are great fans of the Belt and Road Initiative," Szijjártó said, saying that Hungary adopts an independent policy and refutes the concept of "de-risking" with China bandied about in the West. Szijjártó also looks forward to reaping the dividends of the China-Hungary partnership on EVs and green technology and rejects the allegations about China's "overcapacity."

I live in Hungary and I can proudly say Péter Szijjártó is probably the third best diplomat in the world today after Sergei Lavrov and Wang Yi.
4th after Jaishankar. But in that order, I agree. One has to count for what pressure the country is under, and even if EU is pushing Hungary, USA puts much harder pressure on India. Lets hope they can withstand, and remain strong. However, I think Hungary budged and let sweden into NATO , bribed by the JAS Gripen deal. A misstake, in my view. Furthermore Sweden is building a gigantic battery factory that Will compete with Hungarys planned joint venture with China . I wish you luck and a fruitfull visit by XI. Belt & Road will make the difference.

And India knows that, that’s why its FM can openly call EU hypocrites when it comes to oil trade with Russia (rightly though) because they know they have us backing them. So to say India gets bigger pressure than Hungry is just not true

@@koujhgloup yeh. But US is pretty pissed at India not " following orders" to join the pact against China in the Taiwan issue, nor the Indian ocean security memo. Biden admin just cant take " aggressive neutrality". ( funny way to put it by the way) while Hungary is surrounded by warmongering yes men and has no pivotal roll now that sweden is in, the Indians topple the whole system of surrounding China and blockade their trade routes. India is even less complient now that Israel has shown its and Americas ugly face. Indonesia is backing off as well. US has to make a U- turn not to lose in total on the world stage. Opression dont fly anymore. Good on Hungary to work for this back up plan. It will place them on top in europe when the empire of lies comes crashing down. It may even be that Putin who dont care to rule over west ukraine will give the former Hungarian part back. ( provided NATO comes obsolete desintegrate) Im guessing of course, but still. Peter Szijjarto is another fantastic foreign minister, in the class of Sergei Lavrov and Wang Yi. Hungary should be proud of having nurtured such diplomats as he and Viktor Orban, representing the interests of their country, who are open, smart and sincere to work with other nations, without the insane rhetoric of their western counterparts. Salute you, Hungary.

I have never heard him speak Péter Szijjártó, but I am glad that you had this interview with him, which gives me confidence this man has welcome China, and also committed to the growth of his country, creating jobs, and fostering cooperation between the two countries.

Why would Hungarians take sides when they don't like other forces intruding their life? They had to fight for freedom and every nation has these turning points. They just stay out of this topic.

There are some NATO bases in Hungary. The first one was established before the last Russian soldier was shipped out of the country. That tells you everything you need to know about it.
