Oh My Gosh! Just stumbled onto this, WOW. As a kid in the 70's I built a bunch of these, and I still HAVE them! The first one I EVER Built was with My Dad, he did most of it I was about 6, the Tijuana Taxi! Must have been about 1970. Then I built the Dragon Wagon, Rommels Rod, And the Mood Mixer! My Older Brother also loved them he had the Red Barron and The School Bus!! So Cool to finally learn about this great man!
Was always a fan of his work but did’nt grasp the extent of his work ethic and what a truly insightful and nice person he is. Thanks for the documentary.
Lacey, well you have a special grandpa, Tom is a very interesting and talented person. His creativity has touched thousands of people. I was glad to meet and get to know him and enjoyed producing this documentary.
I discovered the legend Tom Daniel, when I stumbled upon the diecast Paddy Wagon designed by Tom. I created a dedication video #undergrounddiecast15 and have been his fan ever since. Long live the legend
Tom Daniel is the best! The man who influenced us all! Thanks for the great video! I subscribed as a fellow TH-camr. Your collection is FANTASTIC! ! ! ! And cool you got Tom to come over, I know he doesn't fly so you must be close! Thanks for the great video.
I first discovered TD model kits and his cool designs in 2001 when i was 13 and got into the model car building hobby all because of my dad he told me all about how he bought every TD model kit he could buy in the late 60s early 70s when he was a teenager building model car's and my interest developed in his Monogram kits as well and yesterday i just bought the newly reissued Rommel's Rod and a 1994 reissue of the ICE T from Dean's hobby stop in Owosso MI.
I had all the Monogram Models by Tom Daniel's , I was 10 years old in 1967 , I'd Mow Lawns in Summer and Shovel Snow in Winter , Model Kits were $2.50 in 1968 and if I wasn't Buying Model's? I was Buying Hot Wheels (Hot Wheels just came out in 1967) ... I had a great Childhood..
I'm living my second childhood, collecting Tom Daniel models again. I like all his designs, but I'm especially fond of his wacky caricature models such as Hemi Semi and Super Taxi, with their twisting chassis and rippling, gigantic tires, and his weird ones like Ghost of the Red Baron. Thank you Mr. Daniel!!
His models had such a cultural impact on us kids and the Kustom car scene. Im really surprised some big custom car shop hasn't built a few full scale running versions of his cars, especially with the availability of composites and 3D printing technology. The Circus Wagon, Tijuana Taxi and the Pie Wagon would all make some cool running cars.
I grew up during the time period he is referring to and his models were all the rage as far as many are concerned. I have built many of his kits and still hunt for his kits today if I can find them and they aren't too expensive. He had the eye I'll tell you, and difference is what you want as a model builder. He is a big part of why I still build models today at 68yrs old. Really cool 😎thank you Tom for your insight.
Built many of those cool models..... and finally found my favorite " Badman" 55' Gasser ! ( I was thinking Bad News ? .... well I got the 1st part correct 😉 ) Love that car.... I'm pretty sure I've been a drag racing nut since birth 😆
Mark: I need to get ahold of Tom. I tried his contact site but it doesn't work. What I'm trying to do is get him to re-issue the Red Baron model kit in both sizes. I'm a member of the Pontiac Overhead Cammers Club and the Red Baron is powered by a Pontiac OHC engine. If he re-issues it, I can't guarantee big sales but, depending on the price, I'll buy a half dozen. I'm hoping other members will buy a couple each. Thanks. David
Notice how they casually walk past a mint looking early 70`s Schwinn 5-speed ``Apple Krate`` Stingray bicycle with front and rear suspension. Currently worth about $2,500 in restored condition (eBay).
+push on I had one in the early 70s, it was between the Apple crate or lemon crate and I thought yellow was a girls color, it was the first bicycle I got that cost over 100 dollars, it took a lot of talking to get my parents to buy me one.
I just obtained a complete kit of the Monogram Tom Daniel 'Quicksilver' 60 sedan delivery. Its crazy-stupid-hens-teeth rare apparently as I didnt even see one in the video. They only infrequently show up on ebay and when they do they either sell immediately as a 'buy-it-now' at a HUGE price or an even BIGGER price at auction. I consider my buy at $85 a STEAL.
+Pvmntpndr66 Not at all. I got the EXACT version I wanted and it was the LEAST expensive one IN THAT VINTAGE BOX available. (btw; Mine is a 1st Issue,..The 'Street Fighter' version was NOT the ORIGINAL,..mine is)
I built the quicksilver back in the 70s and stored it at my grandparents house, and my grandma was cleaning one day and through everything into the fire place...arrrrrgggghh!

Another Red Baron owner here back in the day. Great car. This video brings back LOTS of memories.
The first model kit I built was The Red Baron.
So cool to learn about the man who designed it.

You should check out some of my Tom Daniel models I made. I have 20 models so far, and will be up soon.
I’ve built as many as I could afford. My latest is a large scale of the Paddy Wagon in wood.
Legend.
Monogram re-issued the Red Baron model a few years ago

Very cool
He lives down the street from me.
Yeah, we emailed a couple of times and I told him that my brother and I built many of his models when we were kids. He IS the man!!
I would have asked him if he ever connected with Syd Mead.
They took the emblem away from the red baron.

+modeler308 ... You were ripped, Quicksilver is a reissue of the original Street Fighter, which was recently reissued itself.
