The original model A is the best plain and simple. It's ok to add accessories or make a few upgrades for safety but in general the originals are the best. They really where over built well engineered automobiles. Were they the fastest? No. Were they the most luxurious? No. While not the fastest or most luxurious they were some of if not the most reliable automobiles ever produced. They certainly were the first mass produced modern type automobile. Their sheer durability is the reason they are still so many examples of them around today. Although many reguard them as the poor mans antique car they are far from that. They have been loved for generations and it's this love that will see them survive many many more years. They are lovingly restored and most return to the road which few antique automobiles can do. These cars are most happy being driven and enjoyed passing automotive history on to each generation. How many 90 year old automobiles do you still see on the road With regularity? The answer is a simple None!!
Why have so many people preferred to restore their Model A's instead of hot rodding them? In my own case it's a combination of factors. First, this was the car whch my mother knew and loved and a lot of her money went into my car, so it had to be stock. But secondly, a stock, original Model A shows you how simple a car can be and still provide basic, dependable around town (at least) transportation. Also, a mechanically simple car is the easiest to fix, the cheapest to buy parts for and that equates to being the most fun with many people. And it gives you something more unique to drive, I think, even if it is too darned slow on the hills.
I bought my first Model A, a 1928 Roadster, in 2014. I live in Welcome, NC and the speed limit here is 35 and I love it. I am 72 driving a stock model a. What can be more fun than that.
The missus and I drove our '30 Coupe on this tour. Best convention we've been to.
