  • VIDEO: Two-and-a-half hours in the searing heat and sun at Dagenham Dock station, featuring c2c class 357s, Southeastern class 395s, Eurostar class 373s and 374s and Freightliner and GBRf class 66s.
The London, Tilbury & Southend Railway between Barking and Tilbury opened in 1854 but a station at Dagenham Dock didn't open until 1908, to serve the growing residential and industrial area.
For the longest time, the station was about as standard a commuter station as you could get, until 2007, when the tracks for the new High Speed 1 line between London St Pancras and the Channel Tunnel were built right next to the station. This meant the station, along with nearby Rainham, became popular spots for catching High Speed 1 trains in action.
There is currently a proposal to build another station just eastwards at the growing development of Beam Park. However, construction of that station remains minimal and an opening date has not been announced.
