    The first 2 albums "A walk across the rooftops" and "Hats" should be re-released again just to remind this new generation of people how fantastic and awesome these 2 albums were. They should of been up there as one of the best band of eighties, so underrated.

    I know they have other albums but I have never been able to get away from Hats. I still listen to it often. There is just nothing else like it from any artist. Masterpiece.

      Elwood P. Dowd -- I know what you mean. It is a crime that A&M pulled support from their tour, couldn't figure out how to promote the album and basically dropped it. I worked at a nightclub and would come in early, put it on and lie in the middle of the dance floor while the sound washed over me. Several times the album ended and others were lying on the vast floor with me.

    I'm 16 years old, and I still remember when I first heard The Downtown Lights, I didn't like the sound. However, coming back to it, I decided I needed to indulge myself into this music, and I have bought almost the entire Hats record and I'm in love with A Walk Across The Rooftops. Great great sound. My parents find it astonishing.

    In 1984 I read a well-written review of Walk Across the Rooftops in Stereo Review. I traveled to Philly from A.C. the next day and found it. I proceeded to wear out that vinyl over the next few years, then they released Hats and it started all over again.

    The Downtown Lights is one of my (very) few timeless classic favorites - still awesome after all these years....still never tire of it!

    Album 88 right here in Atlanta - we lost most of the music component of that station with changing politics and media habits; and what a tragedy because they set musical taste for so many of us here in Georgia - their signal had huge throw and they played great stuff. And who knew they interviewed the fantastic Blue Nile back in the day.

    Paul's projected singing voice was so great, by the time he did his solo stuff he had stopped projecting.

    If Paul or anyone close to the TBN read this, you r very special people and extremely good at what you do. Life is moving on at a rate of knots for us all from 'our era'...how about TBN having one final go at touring the planet with a sort of Billy Connolly on tour kinda approach? Why not max internet marketing 1st to promote said tour well in advance? It would work. TBN being seen live again would be big and well supported. We all miss TBN & life is too short now, go on do it...4 u'z and us!

    What an amazing band. Four timeless classic albums, two of which have now been re-released (a walk across the rooftops & hats) each with a 2nd disc containing b-sides and mixes & unreleased material. Everyone buy them to send a message to the band that they are still revered & we hope they can find a way to get back together again. Another recommendation to fans is the book The Strange Course of The Blue Nile, a great read & in places quite revealing.....The Blue Nile...PLEASE come back!

    Album 88 in the late 80's early 90's was the harbinger of the best of rock music- absolutely the best. The fact that they would do a special in Blue Nile shows how visionary they were. I lived for every hour I could listen. THANKS for being the soundtrack of my life.

  • @deetgeluid
    @deetgeluid 10 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    A unique band. In my opinion Hats is a masterpiece. To anyone saying the 80's only delivered crap music, listen to this record. Btw you were probably not born in the 80's, or stuck in the 70's. Kate Bush, the Blue Nile, Peter Gabriel, David Sylvian, Sting, Prince... yes there was crap in the 80's, but name one good band from the 90's.

      Tortoise, Talk Talk, Stereolab, Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Beastie Boys, John Zorn, Pavement, Lemonheads, Tom Waits, Nas, 2Pac, Johnny Cash, Depeche Mode, Weezer, Silver Jews, all great artists that made great music in the 90s.

    I went to GSU and WRAS Albumn 88 was THE shit back in the day. So cool that my university contributed to this.
    I LOVE Blue Nile! Evidently, the concrete campus of GA State University does as well. I'm sure I probably heard Blue Nile for the first time on Album 88 , back in me youth...

    I love this band, but their "shut up and kiss us" at the American interviewer was beyond the pale. Really gross of them and humiliating for the girl, and I'm not even woke.
