I never knew that Maya and Evgeny became skating partners. Good for her that she got out of a loveless marriage. And from what I remember about Pasha in her interviews in the late 90s, she seemed crass.
It was my recollection that Gritchuk and Platuov won the OGM mainly because Usova and Zhulin in 1994 could not longer skate romantic numbers which was their forte due to their discontent and such. It was sad because Usova and Zhulin were special but that was all lost due to lust, deceit, whatever.
+Helen Areev. It's kind of funny because in 1994, Usova & Zhulin actually skated programs with good content for once. But look at how much their speed and flow cut down that year! That was very indicative to me that they couldn't handle a high level of content. While U&Z were beautiful, they were not at the same level technically as either Klimova & Ponomarenko or Grishuk & Platov.
however much a betrayal it might be, cheating is one thing. but raising your hand against your wife, as a man i just can't understand that. that is inexcusable.

Maya was the one who cheated on her husband and played a role of poor sheep with evil idea to ruin Oksana's reputation

I am sure Maia didn't help things. Her reactions escalated things. To try to be objective Usova and Zhulin were criticized for lack of content but beautiful skating. I never heard Usova described as so mentally unstable but rather mad about her treatment by Zhulin. This is not a court of law but if you look at Zhulin's numerous relationships that would tend to favour Maia as the vicitm. IN these posts I think people are confusing the orphane waif from the Ukraine Oksana Baiul and Grtischuk at times. Oksana/Pasha was crass in her behaviour and conduct. She also was a good ice dancer - very good. Perhaps not of the level of Tessa Virture, MEryl Davis, Klimova, Krylova, Torvill, Bestmianova et al but very good and fast. As bad as Pasha was Zhulin also needs to be chastised. I have a feeling if Usova and Zhulin skated like they did in the olympics in 1992 they would have won in 1994.
Pasha Grishuk is just plain tacky. Her skating was tacky and she was tacky in her personal life. Zhulin is a snake. The first time I saw Maia Usova and Evgeni Platov skate together, they both looked like they'd been sprung from prison. I hope that wherever they are today, they have found peace and real love.
The Lord God ordered so: usova lost her the only baby, because she ugly skated with Oksana partner during she was pregnat. platov still is not married and has no kids. Oksana is happy married, has wonderful dauther- one of the best tennis player of America. Everyone has own ticket. Baul is still under podium.
@Loose Wings You have got to be kidding. She was awkward, whacky, she never seemed to have much control when she skated. Evgeny was the true strength of that pair.

I heard the only way the judges could stop T&D winning after the OD was to put G&P first - because they screwed it up at Euros
