      Yeah I had this as a question before I bought my wavestate so I read the manual online and figured it must be possible, glad it came in handy!

    Nice tip. I want to add to this idea: This same MIDI channel trick can be used with workstations that have separate layers. each layer can be set to internal or external. so now you can lay out keyboard splits on the main workstation/controller and mix the wavestate layers just like in the DAW. With the wavestate's full range sound, you can access above and below the tiny wavestate keyboard. You can also control a layer(s) externally and play other layers from the wavestate at the same time. everyone should own a wavestate. If anyone is familiar with korg workstations, the 4-layer wavestate is basically what korg calls a "combi", and those usually have 16 layers on current workstations so, wasting 4 layers to run a wavestate is no problem. tip#2 (i had to talk with korg tech support on this one) IF you want to clock a wavestate but not control the playing, set the global channel to anything different from the master control MIDI channel and wavestate will pick up the clock but nothing else. did i mention that everyone should own a wavestate and as of Dec 2020, the price dropped $50.

    Beautiful banks! 👍🏻🙂
    As you know is it possible to assign a different midi channel to the Wavestate sounds pattern (so not each single layer as per your tutorial) to be able to use Wavestate as a single sound engine source in a multiple midi tracks project (of course with limitation of 16 tracks of midi protocol) and without proceeding with recording midi tracks as audio.

    Is there a way to use the Wavestate as a MIDI controller in Ableton to play other synthesizers without playing the Wavestate sounds?

  • @ccadolfoify
    @ccadolfoify 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Mark Shufflebottom Can you send the entire 4 layers to a midi channel and another 4 entire ones to another midi channel and have them sound at the same time? That is, 2 midi channels with 2 different sounds?

    • @markshufflebottom7871
      @markshufflebottom7871  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ccadolfoify not that I am aware of because the 4 layers of the new sound are not available to map onto.

    Thanks my friend. And for record also the audio,
    WHAT'S THE EXACT PROCEDURE?

    • @markshufflebottom7871
      @markshufflebottom7871  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah so the Wavestate has a stereo out, so you can use one or two mono cables and patch them into your sound card. That might be a mixer desk that acts as sound in, or a Focusrite Scarlett. Go to preferences and choose that as the input source for external audio. Then set an audio channel to receive that ext. audio. You can see that on the audio channel in the video. The just hit record. Hope that helps.

    • @alexmax9832
      @alexmax9832 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@markshufflebottom7871 Thanks my friend. however in this way I would have a unique stereo wave and not divided into 4 channels, as shown for the midi. Is there a way to do this even in audio?

    • @markshufflebottom7871
      @markshufflebottom7871  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alexmax9832 Yeah you can get the audio onto four layers if you turn off all layers except one, then record one layer, and then switch through each layer so you record them in one at a time. It's a shame they didn't give four outputs on the back.

      in ableton go to preferences - link midi and search midiports for 'generic USB midi' , that's the wavestate device

    I'm having issues with MIDI. If I send a sequence to the Wavestate it will hit the notes correctly but the samples and other triggered sounds won't be in time. Maybe I just need to set the tempo of the wavestate manually to match my DAW? Does anyone know how to do this?

    thank you for you video ! is it possible to transform the Wavestate as a simple midi controller (with joystick and all knobs) to pilot vst software ?

    • @markshufflebottom7871
      @markshufflebottom7871  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with pilot, but probably, if there is a midi learn on your DAW, these can probably be mapped to parameters.

    Will this also allow what is happening on the four layers to be sent out of the device on four channels for separate recording or routing to other synths? Pads on layer A go out midi channel 1, low note only bass on layer B go out channel 2, ARP melody on layer C go out channel 3, etc.?

    • @markshufflebottom7871
      @markshufflebottom7871  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each midi channel as 1 layer. As for channel's, if think you are talking about sound coming back from the wavestate, in which case there is only one output.

    Hey Mark great video! Ok so i did exactly the same and it works perfectly, so while i sequenced the 4 layers separately, i started playing wavestate`s keyboard, and found that i could play layer A sound independently from what was being sequenced on the same layer. But only the sound from layer A i could do this... do you know if i could do the same with the other layers? I hope that made any sense, this , cheers!

    • @markshufflebottom7871
      @markshufflebottom7871  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, amazing, I had no idea you could even play it separately, great tip! You might be able to do others by switching something up in settings, but I suspect it's just because it's layer A, which is probably the primary layer. I'll have a look at the General Midi settings and see if I can see anything!

      Had a look at the manual and not found anything, but I just had a thought - if the layer A was active in the DAW (for example there is a red record on the active track in Ableton) perhaps that will switch the sounds?!?! I haven't got my wavestate to hand at the moment so I can't test

    • @markshufflebottom7871
      @markshufflebottom7871  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's how to send program change messages from Ableton - help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209070489-How-to-send-Program-Change-messages-from-Live
      The wavestate manual says this:
      Using Set Lists
      Set Lists let you group and order Performances for gigs or projects. A Set List has 64 Slots, arranged into four banks A-D, corresponding to MIDI Program Change messages 0-63. Note that Set Lists don't contain separate copies of their sounds; they just point to Performances stored in the database.
      The program change message from Ableton can change the set list.
