Very interesting, thanks for sharing your experience. Loved hearing your honest and raw perspective about being in the league and a reserve player. Keep up the videos! 🥰
Don't give up girl! You will get your time to shine and we all know it! Would love to see a day in the life with the team at home too as like a comparison!
Hi Sam! I loved your transparency about being a reserve thanks for being so open! As someone who plays women’s d3 and also sometimes has to deal with being scratched you’re a huge inspiration! Thanks for the video ❤
Wow thank you so much for breaking everything down! That is crazy that you’re not just a scratch, you are essentially on waivers at all times 😮 I’m so glad your teammate backed you up and gave you somewhere to stay! I will be cheering you on during Ottawa games!!
thanks for explaining that, that's globally what I'd think, but you explained it very well :) I'll keep my fingers crossed for another contract soon for ya !
Hey Sam, love your insight. Question for a possible future FAQ video - are the players talking about PWHL expansion much? Feels like there a lot of great players not getting to play as much just due to limited spots available. What are the dream expansion cities getting talked about?
@@newfoundboring Hey, thank you! We don’t have a ton of info on what’s to come. Definitely would be a huge move for the league and players looking to extend their careers. Would be unreal to see some teams out west!
Good luck Sam, with expansion looming in the future you will definitely get signed. You stay positive and keep working hard. I’m sure you are a great teammate.
Thanks for explaining. I heard a lot about 10-day contracts last year (Dubois, Boreen, M. Daoust) but not as much about LTIR replacements like Taylor House or Olivia Knowles. But I see now you and Buckles were two of them when you came in to finish last season
Hey Sam! Your eyes are so pretty! Are they 2 different colours or it’s the lighting? Thanks for this amazing video once again it was very interesting. Keep it up I’ll be cheering for you ❤❤
15k a year is actually insane… how do most reserve players get by? Do a lot of them do like brand deals or something for the extra income? Like, I’m a broke university student but now I wanna buy yall a coffee cause that’s actually insane
When players were cut at training camp, many were offered reserve contracts and opted to go to SHDL instead. And NY only had one reserve (a forward) and I think to this day it's still the case. I personally think they should be fully part of the 25-team lineup, be paid the league minimum with benefits and housing stipend. And get a chance to play not only when others get injured, but when a coach thinks one of the regulars might benefit from watching a game from the press box 😄
Thank you for sharing. I had no idea you could be called by any team?? I am glad you feel valued since you really are an important asset. I really hope the CBA is renegotiated and continues to improve wages especially for reserves.
Thanks for explaining this and your situation. Very interesting. Now 15K obviously isn't enough to live on. Neither is 36K if that's the minimum. Are 2nd jobs or part time jobs a big part of it for many or some of the woman in the league? Gotta love the game not the money I guess for a new league or this situation. Again thanks taking the time here. A lot a very new and interesting information.
@@ChrisMoor-ip4ys I don’t believe many girls have secondary jobs. The idea is that we can all make a liveable wage playing but it’s not always the case - I do know a few that will pick up part time gigs in the summer
Yes, it depends on the opportunity, last season in Montreal Catherine Dubois had two 10-day stays and impressed enough to get a contract to finish the season. And she re-signed for season two
Thanks for every time you step up for Ottawa, Sam 💜 We'll be cheering for you to get that full contract!
