The Battle Of The Year has come a long way. Who would have thought that BOTY would go from starting out in 1990 in a local youth culture centre with 500 hard-core fans to an arena packed with more than 12,000 roaring spectators and b-boy crews from all over the world?
BOTY has grown massively -- and we have slowly realised our vision of developing the spirit of breakdance and creating an international event platform that allows B-Boys and B-Girls from all different countries to express their creativity in front of an ever-growing audience.

The two dancers from Ichigeki in the body bandages and flag draped over him are particularly talented. That kind of fluidity can’t be taught. It’s God given natural talent. These 2 could make it in any field of dance. I wish they’d never stopped dancing. No one can deny the Koreans have superior power moves..but it’s the fine line in between that is actual dance. They lack style - overall. I think Ichigeki should have won. They are actually artists.
ikr. As a Korean, I always support Korea, but still, ichigeki's artistry is amazing. Korea won this final, but I am frustrated. Because I was unwittingly moved by ichigeki, and in my mind the last4one lost to ichigeki.

Ah yes... probably my favourite battle of all time, and not just because it was the culmination of the excellent documentary Planet B-boy (although that may have helped). The DJ, I thought was really brilliant this year.
Personally I think Ichigeki was more interesting in this battle, but hey, it's all good.
Wow I disagree, there show was great but they need to clean up there stuff, too many crashes/mistakes and there transitions are not as smooth either. Personally don't even think it was that close. Their styles are great but it needed to be cleaned up. You can get away with it in the type of showcase they did but not in a battle.
Texanturnbuckle You're probably right, but as someone who's no expert on b-boying, stuff like that matters less to me. I only said I found them more interesting, not that they deserved to win :)

일본팀은 자국결승 어케 이긴거지 퍼포로 결승은 갔다쳐도 우승을 하고 본선온게 신기하네 자국결승상대도 퍼포로 올라왔었나;; 춤을 추라니까 무슨 발광을 하고 있네 4강 체제였으면 4위도 아까움
' 전통적인 맛과 멋=진부하고 뻔함'vs'시대를 앞서가는 독창적인 무대=무대에 알맞지않는 지랄발광'. 이건 보는 시점에 따라 다른듯. 여기 덧글들 보면 알겠지만 일본이 훨씬 창의적이라 좋았으며 지금이었다면 일본이 우승했겠다는 등의 의견들도 많음. 나도 지금와서 마음열고 보니까 대단하다 싶네. 내 기억에 저때 당시 매치영상 보면서도 '일본측 독창성이 남달라서 이거 채점기준을 어디로 두느냐에 따라 한국이 질수도있겠다ㅠㅠ' 엄청 조마조마하면서 봤었던 기억이 있음... 몇몇 퍼포먼스는 와 진짜...거의 예술의 경지 아님? 비보이는 비보이이면서도, 뻔하거나 진부하지않고 지금까지와는 남다른 독창적인 무대를 선보이며 있는 힘껏 즐기는 모습이 정말 멋있다 생각듬. 개인적으로 라스트포원의 taiyou를 좋아하기고했고, 한국인으로썬 한국팀에 자꾸 마음은 가지만, 순수 비보이대결로써 본다면 나도 지금이라면 일본팀에 손을 들듯.

일본애들은 잘 못 온것 같은데 ? 비보이가 아니라 째즈댄스인가? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 비보이다운 테크닉이 어떻게 한개도 없냐.. 20분을 보고 있는데... 대단하다. 할 줄 아는 파워 무브는 헤드스핀뿐 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ저당시 비보이는 정말 형편없었구나... 비보잉 보다는 스타일에 신경을 더 쓴 듯 하군..
그래도 이치게키 퍼포먼스 하나는 뭐..
결승오른만큼의 실력이 있구만...어차피 한국이 우승했는데 리스펙좀 하자. 억까는 좀 자제하고. 마음에 안들면 뭐라고 할수는 있겠지만, 그래도 그렇지, 전통적인 비보이의 느낌이 아니라서 까는건 옳지않다고 봄. 그딴식으로 까일 정도는 아니야. 반일감정 구석에 밀어두고 냉정하게 함봐바. 남다른 크리에이티브함이 돋보여서 대단함. 난 저때 결과를 모르는 상태에서 영상 쭉 봤었는데 일본측의 저 색다르고 톡쏘이는 퍼포먼스들이 너무 위협적이라 채점기준에 따라선 질수도있겠다 싶어서 조마조마하면서 봤음. 전통적인 맛이냐 신박한 창의력이냐 심판이 채점기준을 어디에 두느냐에 갈렸을듯. 나도 옛날엔 어리숙해서 라스트포원 다음카페 가입하고 일본애들은 전혀 비보이답지않아서 별로 였다느니 어떻게든 일본 까려고 난리쳤었는데 거울치료된다...스스로가 부끄러워지네. 그리고 저때 일본애들 인터뷰한거 들어보면 순수하게 음악을 사랑하고 춤추는걸 사랑해서 있는 힘껏 즐기는걸 목표로 출전한 애들임. 저런애들이 '한국이 싫어하는 일본'과 가장 멀리있는 애들이지.
