Wdym sen's fortress is bad? I mean the execution of it may not have been the best but as a concept a house full of traps is really unique in souls games. I had hoped that they would have made a level like sen's fortress in elden ring because it really would have brought some versatility in the level design of the game.
Ngl i dont agree with most of these. Blighttown and Sen's Fortress are S-tier level design. Shunning Grounds, Irithyl Dungeon and Oolacile are also very good. Gutter, Catacombs of Carthus and Farron Keep while not that good they arent bad imo.
I loved Irithyll Dungeon. It was the first time I was really forced to slow down in DS3, I kinda wish it was longer, since even though it was my first playthrough with little to no knowledge about the areas, I felt like I was blazing through everything else, it would have been a nice little break just exploring a massive death trap dungeon. To note: I finished my first playthrough of DS3 including DLCs in 20 hours. I missed Old Demon King, Nameless King and Gravetender Duo in that run.
I'm playing through DS1 for the first time now, and yeah completely agree. Blightown is annoying but good in design and I'll even say it's fun once you get the hang of it. Same with Sen's Fortress, with the exception of the four titanite demons in the pit, that schiese is ducking ridiculous
Greatly disagree with your Forbidden Woods take. In fact, it's the best "woods" area Fromsoft has ever done. Yes, it's huge and easy to get lost, but that's part of the appeal of being in a large forest area (plus, as long as you are going downhill you're usually making progress). The level design revolves around one central lamp and two elevator shortcuts which make you appreciate how vertical the level is with how you loop back on yourself twice. The art design is magnificent as well and the snake twist with halfway through the level is still one of the coolest moments on initial playthroughs. Not to mention all the other great moments: the cave that leads to Central Yharnam, the iconic encounter with the guy who turns into Abhorrent Beast, encountering the little grey Aliens for the first time, etc. Also, Shadows of Yharnam is one of the better gank bosses in the series.
If you want a safe and fast way to get through the Shunning grounds to the 3 fingers, do this. Put ground slam on a weapon and use it to jump down the pit. It'll get you to the bottom safely. You'll miss out on loot, but it's an easy way to get through it.

Ds1 Notes from a Ds1 fan: Oolacile is one of the best area's of ds1 You forgot to mention the reskin of a reskin in the list of mid bosses from Izalith Crystal caves is worst area in the game,it invisible bridges, enemies that push you to death, basic design and aesthetics, two minute runbacks, and crabs that like to join you in what is already the worst boss in the game, (Seath is worse that Bed of Chaos, fight me)
I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who shares this opinion. I’d argue though that tomb of the giants may be worse than the crystal caves, but they are both in the same tier of horrible areas in my opinion.
I think tomb of the giants is even worse than crystal cave, can't see shit, massive skeletons dogs are horrible, bad level design on said area, i Guess nito is alright Bed of chaos is still the worst Boss of the Game ( though, for the series, ancient dragon and dragon God are worse for the series, though i have even more bosses to add if counting all videogame bosses i've beaten ) can't Dodge the tree swipes, and can push you onto your death by Newton, though seath is still an awful fight, is just boring, inconsistent with how agressive he is and, specially, his moveset is absolutly trash Edit: i agree with ooacile being very good, even though the enemy density is too high at times, and the hex sorcerers can melt you HP on 2-3 hits even with havel's armor and 30 vitality with FAP
The Forbidden Woods is my favorite area because that's where I really leveled up skill wise. Shoutout Hunter's Nightmare too that first area of the DLC humbles you fast.

I think if they place a bonfire before the bossfight against Lud and Zellan in the fridged outskirt, then nobody would complain about it. It would be the urgently needed reward for a decent challenge to complete the level. So if you make it through, you should not do it again.
Agreed. A hard or intrincated zone doesn't have to be bad, in fact for me Some of them were very interesting. I would put Blightown, Subterranean Shining Grounds and Sen Fortress out of the list straight Up and I would had added Road of Sacrifices, the first and last segment of Ashes of Ariandel and Consecrated Snowfield.
A lot of the time I see people putting lake of rot above farron keep, which I personally disagree with. For me, farron is the most irredeemable poison areas even over the 2 in demons souls. What do you think is worse in the lake of rot or better in farron to have it higher?
Thanks for the video! Agree with a lot of your points. I hate sen's fortress far more than blighttown. The one level I feel should be here that wasnt: the crystal caves. I haaaaate the invisible platforming
Blighttown is among the best areas of ds1 and like top 15/20 in soulsborne insanely good atmosphere great environmental storytelling along with the location being above the ashen lake and below fire link showing how they just built on top of other cities and kept going up queelag is a pretty decent boss for its time and it has unique level design sure it's kind of a drag to go through but it achieves what it's there to do
Nah, Road of Sacrifices with all those Corvians... I don't know that I've never had such a short segment in any game beat me up so bad 😂 Also, sidenote, Frigid Outskirt isn't so bad if you run to the buildings when the snowstorm isn't blowing. Still not easy, but much better for sure since the reindeer don't spawn if you're in or near the buildings. You'll still have to fight 1 or 2 tho...
Hot Take here I think Abbysal Woods is one of the worst areas in Elden Rings DLC. Massive, yet so damm empty, just rats, a guy and 3 madness winterlanterns.
Art design is S-tier though. It is like moving through a painting. It's honestly a crime that they didn't have more unique enemies and encounters to the area. Just replacing the rats with a unique enemy variant and adding an additional catacombs to find would of almost made it S-tier because the ambience and Midra's Manse is just that good.
@@domonkosrevay9423 If the lore makes the area shit to play, its bad lore. Game design should come before world design everytime. If this is the reason we are going with, then make the area far far smaller.

Nah dawg, Ringed City should’ve been #1, the Ringed City is just the worst area. The Ringed City is an actual nightmare, full of just the worst enemies.

Honestly, I think High Wall of Lothric is a trash area. Boring enemies, uninteresting level design, ridiculous teleporting dogs, stupid enemy placements etc. Compared to the opening are of Bloodborne (Central Yharnam, which is an easy S-tier area), it’s almost an F-tier area.
The nightmare frontier is the worst area in bloodborne tbh just because you can access sorta early and man the winter lanterns the giants the poison that slows you down it is so bad
Sens Fortress and Blighttown are two of the best levels in the entire series, the level design is top tier. Oolacile is great too. Abyssal woods is probably the worst in the series, even worse than frigid outskirts.
Blight Town, Gutter, Sens Fortress, and Brightstone Cove Tseldora are all good imo. They all have their place in the first two dark souls games. Personally I find a level being boring a lot worse than it being challenging or weird. So I'd go for more stuff like the depths from ds1, the grave of saints from ds2, huntsmans copse from ds2.
No way, is pretty mid, but not even bad, the blizzard storm isn't that bad, the rest is kinda decent exploration, mountaintops is worse for sure, lineal AF for being an open world area and really boring, ancient ruins of Rauh got the idea of mountaintops right
