You had the red bead breaker handle facing backwards, those bumps on the handle are for finger grip. Plus it makes the angle of the breaker plate align more appropriately for applying leverage.

Like many said, when installing the final bead over the rim, press the bead which is already over the rim into the hollow center of the rim to allow relief to the tire bead to spread it over to remainder of the rim.
The larger the rim, generally the easier the process.
Some rims have the deeper hollow to one side rather than the other. So place the rim on the tire changer accordingly, with the deeper hollow toward the top when installing the tire.
Oftentimes, the vise grip is a necessity once the tire is lubricated.
The clockwise’ rotation in the instructions is so the tools are working at further tightening the rim to the tire changer.
The mini tire changer is no gift from God, but it works. (along with a couple tire irons, at times)
Good luck during the learning process!

@duke0286 thanks for watching, this one kicked my tail.. that was a few years back. I just tried my hand at the motorcycle tire with the Harbor Freight motorcycle tire changer and it rather well. Smooth compared to the tractor tires lol. Thanks for the helpful advice.

I am forever grateful for this video. I was going to buy that Harbor Freight tool and change my Cub Cadet tires myself. Nope not going to do that after seeing you do this. Your a big man and it wore you out pretty good. I'm 71 and I'm taking them to a tire shop. Thanks again Sir.

First of all thanks foe watching and I hope you got chuckle out of my misery 🤣. But yes I'd definitely recommend just paying to have them mounted at a tire shop. I do love my harbor freight though. And I also think the bigger tire mount that harbor freight offers would probably work well but you need to mount it to something solid on the floor so that itself was a drawback for me.

I hope you was able to as well. I had a front tire needed mounted took it to the local tire shop 30 minutes of my time and $15 I'm sold I'll let them handle it from here on out lol

The problem with these wide tires is that it is nearly impossible to get the bead to sit in the deep part of the rim where it can allow the bead to be pulled over the rim on the other side. Part of his struggle at @20:40 is that the side of the tire that he has already brought inside the rim is not dropping down into the center of the rim. It might be worth having a pair of wooden clamps that can clamp that tire to a narrower width so the bead drops to the center. When he finally started hitting the opposite side with that rubber mallet I think he got just enough into the drop well of the rim to give him the room to get the other side down.

    • @hollywd269
      @hollywd269  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Lol it was a struggle no doubt. Mounting tires is definitely an art.... that I don't have🤪 however I did finally get it and they have held up thus far. I do appreciate all of you watching and the advice for future reference. And when editing this video I sat back and laughed at myself. But it definitely was an experience like no other!

@@hollywd269 You have more strength and determination than most but if you had the clamps to pinch that tire into the rim centerwell on the opposite side you would have had that tire mounted in less than 15 minutes.

When you start to put the tire back on you need to use a small vice-grip, put it on the rim so the tire is below the vice-grip. That way the tire will not be able to pop back above the rim. I would also say the tire needs to be pushed down below the upper rim to give you a little more slack. This works for me. Hope it helps.

I'm sure your right. I tried to do as I had watched some videos on TH-cam myself and it seems as if some guys just have a natural way of doing these tires that looked easy and then their is those guys like myself that tried something to save a few $$$ and it became more work than it was worth lol... as a truck driver and in and out of the tire shop quite often, next time those tires will just go to the shop lol.

Did that a couple years ago on my '97 tractor with the original front tires only without the changer. After 48 years in a semi myself you would think I would know better. Spent longer then this with spoons. I ended up using my 12 ton press to break the beads. Was really surprised how thin the rims are. I'm getting the HF larger tire changer soon as I finally found the right size tires for the tractor so have to do it all over again. My tractor is 4 wheel drive so I have to keep the same size over all diameter.
I've seen other videos where they bolted the changer to the ground then when they were done they unscrewed it and put it in a corner, gonna do the same as I don't have the room to leave it there.
    Thanks for the video.

Thanks for watching. I swore I'd never use that thing again but just this past Monday one of my tires that has a tube in it had gone most of the way flat and pulled the valve stem inside the rim so I dug out that bad memory of a tool and crossed my fingers and believe it or not the bead came off easy and was able to push the valve stem back through the rim and air it up. Not the proper fix but for now it'll do till I get some nicer rims and tires! Again much appreciated for you checking out the video!

Ok, I am at23:59, and I thank you. I don’t know if you get the stupid thing on in the last 10 minutes or not, but you have the exact same size tire as me and I personally feel less stupid. Thought I was dumb seeing people instantly get their tire off and on. I bought the tire spoons too, I have 2 knots on my head to prove that I tried HARD. I will Knot be trying that hard again in the future.

Yeah from here on out I'll use the tire shop o took one to those guys after I did this video and 45 minutes round trip and I had a dismount and remount and I was done, at a cost of $10 now that being said prior to covid and inflation it's probably $25 but still worth it not to be aggravated with it.

Use a clamp and squeeze the tire this will move it more to the middle and give yourself more room to get to get that last bead on. I use a log splitter to break the tire down and squeeze it together on install .

    • @powrguy1696
      @powrguy1696 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yup......gotta have the tire down in the deepest part of the rim center, and it's easy-peasy with that mini tire changer. I have the SAME rims he was using, and the wide tires were not hard at all to mount. The BIG problem is when you try to seat the beads on wide tires. I wound up buying a bead blasting air tank, foregoing the ol' redneck fireball method.

You are one determined man. No matter what, that tire was not going to get the best of you.
Check out Doublwide6's video he has some great tips on using the HF small tire machine. One suggestion, you should use better lubricant. It appeared that the there was not enough soap in the water. You may want to consider using the WD-40 formula that is compatible with rubber or get the specific solution for putting on tires. Best of luck

One other tip I picked up from TH-cam. Use rubber hose washers between the large and small spacers. This will keep the tire from spinning. Note that the washers will be destroyed, but do the job. Also replace the bottom pin with a large bolt. This ehance the tire changers stability

@@hollywd269Just revisited your video. I did not realize when I first watched it, you were mounting lugs. I too had the most difficult time mounting these tires. It looked like it was winter time when you took on this task. I mounted my lug tires in the summer. What found that helped me the most was to bake the tires in the 95 degree sun to soften the rubber.

The 5/8" allthread is ridiculously weak, ive seen sevral of these and all of them show that as the weak link, almost all the metal is soft steel, a ducktail i think its called would be better at putting tires back on the rim, the ag tires are a lot stiffer mine came via amazon
It was about 93dgr outside that day and they sat outdoors in the sun for about 2 hours. I took both the hot tires out of the shipping box them seemed soft to me kinda strechey
Probably would have been the best time to change them but at the time i didnt have the tool.
My frt tires on my cub kept going flat and the weight of the tractor pulled the rubber off the bead
I kept having to jack the tractor up and put a ratchet strap on them to seat the bead just to fill them up.
You see where im going with this
Let all the air out the tire and drive the tractor in a figure 8 untill the bead comes off, or put a 2x4 on one side of the rubber as a ramp and drive your truck up on it
Thats gonna bust the bead for sure.
With the rear hubs off it might be better using 1/2" or 3/4" black pipe as the center post maybe a pipe clamp type with a centering cone
Then a long ducktali type pipe bar.
Now this isnt going to fit the frt wheels not a 5/8" to 3/4" center hole but on small rims tire machines clamp the rim not the center. A lathe 3 or 4 jaw chuck might work better.
Even drilling 4 holes outside the center for bolts you could later use for wheel weights.
My oppion of this cheap tool is just that its a cheap pice of crap were forced to use because no one has made a better affordable option thats better.

They work fine on the small front tires but they are now worth a damn on those large back tires. I owned a lawnmower shop for 47 years too. Those large tires like that I always took them to a tire shop. I had the exact same trouble as Christian did. Took me 3.30 minutes to take just one tire off of one rim. 6/28/2022.
