Mines Field now LAX is where the Graff Zeppelin Landed on its first leg of its pioneering around the world flight in 1929! Just like little bit of trivia here.
I was born in 1940. My Dad became a pilot in the '30's flying a Fleet when the airport was called Mines Field and the one runway (which is now 25L) extended from Sepulveda Blvd (Pacific Coast Highway) to Pershing Dr. and the terminal and hangers were on the south side of the runway. My first flight into LAX was on a TWA DC-3 in 1950 from Phoenix (PHX) with my younger sister Patty Mae. I was hired by United Air Lines in 1964 at LAX and 26 of my 35 years at UAL I was based there. I flew out of LAX in the early 1950's on DC-3 planes. I still have a certificate signed by the pilot and stewardess commemorating my first flight in December, 1949! I was a year and a half old. I think it was American Airlines. I can't imagine anything like that happening today! I remember when we flew in a DC-7 a few years later. A very big deal. I was hoping this film would show the buildings of the early 1950's. I have very vague, early memories of LAX pre-1960's.
I was born in the 40's and my first flight was in a DC-3 as an infant....My Dad worked in the airline industry starting in 1940. In 1954 we moved to Los Angeles and I was familiar with LAX around the time that this video was made. At that time LAX was surrounded by vacant land and small farms. Wow.. Unbelievable change in 64 years.
I remember dressing up to go on the plane when I was a kid. It was a big deal. I even remember as a small child being entertained by a good natured adult in the seat next to me. Now it's a cattle call. People screaming at ticket agents, people being drunk and disorderly, people being rude and pushy. People throwing tantrums when asked to come with rules. It was a much more civilized experience then.

I started at LAX 1962, TWA still had a few props, mostly freighters.
