But they had a "small" advantage: they wrote their lyrics in English. Imagine if we were having this interesting conversation in Portuguese. It would be a little bit more difficult to you to express yourself. Native English speakers have an advantage, but that´s how things works.

Frank, one day I was at a book fair event a few years after Renato had passed away.🥺 This song was playing at the place I was having a drink. It was a beautiful Spring afternoon in Porto Alegre and the place was packed. When it reached the last part everybody sang along. It was so emotional! Legião forever!

Com isso ele dá voz a uma geração que se sente representada. Ele teve essa sensibilidade. Legião Urbana tocava todos os dias, toda a hora, a cada instante nas radios nos anos 80/90. Aqui no Brasil de Norte a Sul, Leste a Oeste tem excelentes musicos, artistas, compositores, bandas, ritmos diversos( samba, pagode, rock, axe, funk, mpb, etc), uma terra abençoada pela sua diversidade, sua gente alegre e festeira! A whole generation of Brazilians grew up loving and singing their songs. An example of this is the song FAROESTE CABOCLO. This song has almost 10 minutes of music in which not a single phrase is repeated. Ask someone who grew up in the 80s if he can sing this song by heart. I'm sure that 80% of people will say yes.

Legião Urbana is the biggest and the best Brazilian rock band, it reflected the thinking and feeling of the Brazilian youth not only about themselves but about the political situation in the country, unfortunately it stills very accurate nowadays. Renato was poet and his lyrics touched not only his generation... one of my favorites is “Daniel na cova dos leões”

Hi Frank! This video is from the early 80's. On the Bass guitar, Renato Rocha, who didn't stay long on the band. This is one of my favorite LU's songs. And yes, Renato Russo was unique. Huge Singer, huge artist. There is a guy singing nowadays with the other two, because people still need to listen to Legião. You should listen to them now. The Guy is @adre_frateschi. Quando se exalta a suposta profundidade das letras de bandas populares e as chamam de poéticas ou coisa parecida, é por falta de conhecimento do que é poesia de alto nível.
