I’m glad you just posted this video, being just a regular Harley rider, I’m not really familiar with the inner workings of the V-Rod I knew the motor was designed by Porsche, they were water, cooled fuel injected, and looked really Nice and were very fast….. but it’s nice watching a video where you can see about the timing, the cams and the such….👍🏻 My Son Just Purchased a (night rod) that had been setting for five years under a tarp….! he got it For $3500, from a guy in a little town called Snead, Alabama…..! Right Now , it’s at the Harley Davidson dealership here in Trussville, Alabama getting everything it needs to make it safe and to make it run perfectly after setting so long…! I was amazed how big the back tire is… it’s getting new front and rear tires. Master cylinder., and anything else it needs to make it run, and ride perfectly. V-rod stuff is not cheap….!
I wish I had an independent V Rod specialist near me here in the UK....the HD dealers really don't want to mess with, what in my opinion, is the best Harley ever made!

As a retired tool and die maker I have worked with much bigger horizontal milling machines than that long before CNC machines back in the very early 70’s. Those machines are still impressive. Great video.
Excellent upload lots of wise tips. When using stainless I use copper grease, might be a UK thing. Titaina fastener are getting cheaper to buy, I always use them for brake replacements as a lot stronger and very light.
Typically for machine parts: Forged > Billet > Cast Forged is usually best because the grain structure if the steel follows the shape of the part, while billet has open grain runout.
Well I'd consider it to the predecessor to the Revolution motor in the Pan-American and new sportster. People are starting to accept them and make aftermarket parts for them like Brian Kruesi. Getting those old air cooled guys to change is unlikely ,but any dirt bike guy knows water cooled makes more hp off the bat.
Mine was a rocket. 128 hp. Fastest Harley ive ever been on and fun to ride except in corners. That fat tire didnt track worth a damn. Very low so scraped the pegs and would pull your boot off .
@@toby2138 Yeah, I heard that basically the bike is too low for hard cornering. Thats very disappointing. IMO they should update it to correct it and bring it back. But I know they won't.
I worked maintenance at a hospital for a while. You wouldn't believe how much stuff I fixed by turning it off and back on or unplug and plug it back in
8:36 my dad ran machines in Dayton Ohio like this and when I was 14 they taught me how to run them for fun, and they would mill oil rig crank motor blocks.
I've watched some of your content on and off for a while, and this by far is your best effort. It's been said that 'we're measured by the company we keep', and I do believe that's the difference in the installment. These guys make this piece work with the familiarity of the subject and the ease at which they perform it. None of it is difficult to do but as with all things Harley (or anything in life for that matter), it's in knowing what works and in the details in which you execute your vision. Investments aren't just financial, knowledge, patience, time. All well spent. All well done...
You see this in not just motorcycles. People doing work on something that don’t really know what they are doing . I don’t knock anyone for wanting to learn . But do the research, spend the time and do it right . If you do want to work on something, make one change and then test performance. That way if something is wrong you know it’s directly related to what you just did . If you do several things all at once and there’s an issue , you have a lot of work to try and find your problem. Don’t so shady work!
Your tip on fouling plugs on short rides - same goes for winter storage. Take the bike on a long ride, get everything hot, before you store it, helps with rust in the pipes and rust on the brakes. Never wash it and wheel it in the garage. Park it hot.

I had an 08 anniversary V-Rod. It was a hell of a bike. Great performance and appearance, but the riding position was medieval torture. I sold it for that reason alone.
HD - turning gas and air into heat and noise, and possibly a little power. Great job to get an extra 10% HP out of it without really going to town on the components, and a very enjoyable and informative video too.
The craftsmanship, shown here, is phenomenal and humbling. And, based on Craig's recommendation, I bought the tire inflator and have no buyer's regret (yet).

I'll freely admit that I don't understand Harleys - The 'culture' appears to be about appearance and noise. Nothing about performance, or comfort - just appearance and noise. And not a nice noise, just a lot of it. I can still appreciate the skill of the mechanics and artists that put them together, even if I don't understand why anyone would own one.
none of my harley's have been loud (several buells and a sportster 1200) all of them have made over 60-70ft lbs of torque. riding a torque twin for me is about having instant power just off idle and keeping it through the range. sports bikes and other machines make super high hp but you have to rev them to get there. instant and always power is why I've enjoyed my harley powered bikes. it's been the same for my triumph and bmw bikes... I don't want to ride a bike intended for the track, on the street. I don't need 5-7000rpm before things are starting to pull. I'm not out here running 150mph on the highway, I'm not a racer. when you leave a stop light on a torque engine, you're moving and doing so immediately. it's almost like an electric engine but with lots of shaking and banging going on... if you've never ridden a harley, I suggest taking a test ride before you outwardly decide what you do and don't want. experience is just that, experience. the first time I rode a buell I couldn't stop smiling in my helmet. torque is more fun than people realize.

I fell in love with the Harley v twin when I rode an Electraglide. Effortless power, and that rumble and shake at idle makes you feel connected with the bike. Not a fan of loud exhaust, but I love the bikes.
It's about being made in the USA 95% of it. For even long haired dirty bikers it's a snobby culture. Even owning a sportster is considered a chick bike. It's good the V-rod came along to pave the way for the new revolution bikes to keep the company alive. Cause the younger generation is priced out of the new Big Twins. Buell tried it ,but these new Revo bikes give something the next generation to consider over a "metric bike" (they're all metric now) lol.

I'll show you around the north coast of NSW. I have multiple bikes. I just recently purchased a new Triumph Rocket3 GT as well.
Diagnostics plugging in computers etc. This is why the motorcycle industry is failing. Too expensive, too complicated. Can’t be bodged on a Saturday afternoon in my garage. Still riding since 1967, loved the two strokes.

Victory engine timing is very similar. There are pin holes to keep the crank at TDC for each cylinder. Makes cam timing a no-brainer (which is helpful to brainless folks like me).
Idk if this came when Porsche helped them,but Porsche does stuff that just makes sense. In the 90's they had a 24 hour LeMans race car that blew the motor,and came and won the race. Built in functionality that we don't see as much today.

It's the core Harley consumer that doesn't want to give the air-cooled motors. They literally have to ween them off the air cooled with water cooled heads. Seeing the V-rod crank looked like a regular crank,a traditional Big twin crank looks like it came out of a steam engine. Lol..
Having fun, and getting dyno numbers is always a good way to find issues, but this is only one aspect of your improvements and better brakes are significant but won't appear on a dyno test. Now I'll finish watching to see if my comment was irrelevant. 😮

Don't trust the pressure, check with a good gauge. They tend to be on the low side.

I had a Vrod one time.. my favorite harley i've ever had.. but it couldn't hang with my Yamaha Vmax or V65 Magnas.. or really any of my metric bikes..

I just put a motor back in and yea, it goes in twisted and then slightly inverts. Much fun. Hopefully riding in 2 weeks.

We can build them up to 1487cc and there is options for boosting and intercooling them. Close to double the stock HP to the wheel!
They're fun for sure, rides like a Cadillac, turning radius of one as well lol. Only get about 100 miles on the tank stock

13 is a lot for a bike with only 2 cylinders it's not a car.
