The evap code 4:40 is more than like the vent valve on the top of the intake, probably that gas smell. Takes vapor from the gas tank when it expands and routs it into the intake, if stuck open can cause it to run rich
those old spark plugs looked a lot leaner than rich, and at the end of the video he showed that the leak was coming from the gas tank area, near the pump.
perfect culprit for a $500 camshaft and use dowel rods to keep lifters in their trays while you swap cams without pulling heads. also a good tuner can shut them knock sensors off and tune it right
Check your fuel pressure regulator on the left side of the intake could be leaking fuel. One way to tell is after leaving it off for a while pull the vacuum line and if it’s bad fuel will leak out of the line
For future reference, when replacing the fuel filter or pump, slowly cycle the key on and off without starting at least 3 times to avoid hard starting!! It will then start right up!! I'm the owner of a 00 Silverado 4.8.
The gas fill up tube to the tank could be dry rotted or disconnected, fuel pump could be leaking from the lock ring or lines on top of it, on top of the tank is also the charcoal canister for the evap system. One of those lines or components could be bad causing the fuel leak
They use plastic hose from the tank to evap canister. Some trucks have a evap solenoid in between. If the tank fills like normal off a gas pump it's the lines. If the gas pump runs slow or constantly kicks back off then the evap canister is full. Youd have multiple evap codes if the canister is bad so I'd start with the canister lines
Unhook the evap line or replace canister it’ll make it where it struggles to crank and throw the same code my did the same thing and after words cranks perfect and can also put gas into it without it clicking every two seconds
Evap. My 06 with a 5.3 ran that code due to someone throwing some cut up hose line on the evap canister and it was loose. Took some safety wire and made it a tight fit. No code for about 9 months now.
Mighta been sucking air through that fuel filter. And with the condition that at air filter was inthe throttle body could probably use a good cleaning. And hopefully that brake fluid isn't for a clutch master cylinder! Not sure what years GM have them but I think that one does. Poor design
You should try to find a pro-tec bed for it. It’s a composite/fiberglass bed that was produced for Chevy on the 02/03 models. Roughly 10,000 were sold.
Love the longer videos, most just aren’t long enough haha! I just got my grandfathers 2nd gen Ram he gave to me before he passed, military man and a great mechanic and grandpa. Do you have any mods you’d recommend? I wanted a 5 inch lift kit like yours but its only for 4WD I believe. Mine is a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie 5.9L 2WD!
I would definitely change the fuel pump. my 2002 Silverado had the same start up issue for a while it wouldn’t hold fuel pressure Put a new pump in and fixed it
startup could be due to oil filter on my 6.0 cateye it does the same thing but if i turn the key to accessory and then back off then back to accessory then on and then it starts like a dream
My buddy has a regencey and his 4.8 did the same thing it ended up being the fuel pump it would lose prime and also felt lower on power than it typically did.
@lmfscrew they're super fun to drive. i had one with 267k miles with the Allison 1000 transmission I traded my cousin a 98 chevy with the 5.7 and 1k and he gave me the 8.1 in return that truck never missed a beat only reason I don't have it rn is cause I decided to take it loggin😂
startup could be due to oil filter on my 6.0 cateye it does the same thing but if i turn the key to accessory and then back off then back to accessory then on
I have an 07 cateye and gas only leaks when I am putting gas into my tank but thats it. I need to do knock sensors too I'm kind of nervous doing that because I've never had an engine apart but I'm sure its not that difficult if I look it up on youtube.
Hey awesome video how do you tell if you're k&n filter is oiled or dry type i bought a 2011 5.3 it came with the cold air intake from k&n and im not sure what to replace it with does it matter thank you
Same thought here, could be the check valve in the fuel pump. Which could explain why the pressure bleeds off so fast, but once fuel pressure is built it runs. Starts fine when it has just been shut off or recently shut off.
Chase, try cycling the key a couple of times after it sits and see if starting conditions improve. If so, I am almost certain the check valve in the fuel pump is the problem. If no other leaks are found from the pump to the rail and the diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator has not failed. I would also get a cheap fuel pressure tester and cycle the key and see If it holds the specd pressure or if it bleeds off quickly.
Need to getting that Truck New Gmc Sierra 1500 Single cab Paint job Need getting New Wheels and New Nitto Trail Grappler Tires you need to getting Window Tint New Leather Seat Bluetooth Radio put New Loud Exhaust Imfscrew
You should name it clunker

The amount of care you put into each vehicle you own is really inspiring. Great video!
honestly these are my favorite type of videos ❤

The knock sensors will pull power. So look at getting those changed if they are bad

We need the OG mudding videos you got to bring them back
24:50 chase almost pulled his mousekatool out on that dog if he gave him trouble 😂
Cleet is a legend
I have 99 step side that has the 4.8 with 297,000 on it. She still runs like a top! Awesome little V8
That Regency has a new healthy home, she will be in good hands.
For future reference, when replacing the fuel filter or pump, slowly cycle the key on and off without starting at least 3 times to avoid hard starting!! It will then start right up!! I'm the owner of a 00 Silverado 4.8.
I love the new music you are adding to your videos now different tunes for sure I like to see that!

Was just watching the video where you bought it😂
Gonna love this build
love the content man. nice new truck hope to see this build come together.

Fuel Filter Chase OEM Fuel Filter Replacement, Definitely Will Help
i love dogs but that Doberman was a HELL NO for me too bro 😂
Always knock sensors
if you look at the end of the plug you can see the little triangle stamp. indeed original plugs. my 05 tahoe had 380k on og plugs.

My 02 tahoe had the same issue with the gas smell. It had a rust hole on the top of the sending unit
Coming here to say that possibly the slow start to it aswell
The knock sensor could definitely cause a rough/long crank start
Unhook the evap line or replace canister it’ll make it where it struggles to crank and throw the same code my did the same thing and after words cranks perfect and can also put gas into it without it clicking every two seconds
this is so cool to watch cant wait tosee what you do with it
Would be cool to see a Titan on the channel

Have a tuner turn off the knock sensors, delete the rear O2s and turn off the evap system. I do all of my GMs lol
I miss the dirt Road chronicles series 😢 use to put me to sleep every night 😂

Smell fuel, hard start... I would say leaking injectors?

You should look in to a hurst/core short throw shifter.
Now that means you gotta get a chevy with the 8.1 vortec/496 big block next right?🤔
I was just looking at some last night 🤣

Aftermarket headlights and taillights next
Try a fuel pressure regulator.
I use purple power. Spray it in the engine bay. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes and rinse it off.
I got a vent for beside the radio
Just got an 07 Silverado 1500 LTZ, will definitely be helpful for this info! Thank you!

Would make a great shop truck for running around and not a cop magnet lol
Digging the super long video! Some of your videos are never long Enough for me! Lol
Knock sensors will cause that issue to
Larry content?
Transmission leak could be worse . That’s probably the easiest trans seal to fix
A factory v8 truck in 2004 should have a different fuel system with no fuel filter if I'm not mistaken, unless the truck is really a 2003.
I got a question did you buy this truck before or after the wreck
I bought this truck as you see it in the video
@lmfscrew I meant the wreck with the f150
Did you oil that filter?
Heads, cam, then go enter it in Cleetus & Cars burnout competition in Bradenton. She’s ready for some clutch dumps
Like 115 just got home and opened the vid
How do you use that music I’ve asked you before but forgot 😂 truck looks good.

Very rare beater truck 😂

Smae thing happen to my truck when I bought it I opened up the fuse box and there was a big pile of bird seeds and twigs
Sounds like your fuel pump is going out!
That was my first thought
