    That grease injector adapter is a thing of genius young man. Top tips, to advice and a top bit of kit invented with and for a purpose.
    Well done squire!

    Just started doing a seal replacement on my Massey Ferguson. Even though I only understood half of the conversation, I learned enough to help me finish doing the job. Well done and thanks.

    Great job Dan, I need to do the half shaft seals on my Grey/ Gold FE35 as oil is leaking out and has got into the brakes, great info regarding this job and the greasing tool was brilliant
    Thank you

    Re greasing bearings, an alternative is to use the gadget originally intended for icing birthday and Christmas cakes using a plain narrow nozzle. I always found it quite successful. Not sure about the modern plastic ones, as I purloined my mother's 1950's metal gadget that withstood the pressure. (She did find out eventually, together with her old deep saucepan I used to heat pistons in, prior to fitting gudgeon pins).

  • @paulweston2326
    @paulweston2326 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    We always used to set end float so that half shafts just touch, if you turn one and the other one turns in the same direction then they are too tight, you then add shims so that when one turns the other one goes in reverse

    In the process of doing my seal . On inspection there is a grease nipple so the wheel bearing can be greased at any time?

    You can’t set preload on bearings with gasket take gasket out put shims back in

    So you only use the shims on 1 side? (left-side in this case)

      @@CowfarmerDan I took the axles out today, no shims, no gaskets, no nothing..I assume at least the gaskets should be put in when it was build..🤔

    • @CowfarmerDan
      @CowfarmerDan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It should have had gaskets fitted in the factory.
      Was the end float OK before you took it apart?

    • @ariearielll7789
      @ariearielll7789 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CowfarmerDan Ok thanks. Did not measure it (don't have the equipment) but when i turned one wheel the other did go in opposite direction. So i think adding gaskets will give to much end float

  • @jwmfarms

    You still need to change the outer seal. Even if the inner seal is bad, the oil can’t get by the outer seal if it’s doing it’s job!

    • @CowfarmerDan
      @CowfarmerDan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true.
      But just doing the inner is well within the capability of the average DIY mechanic without special tools.

    • @jwmfarms
      @jwmfarms ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CowfarmerDan By the way, there are three different thicknesses of those shims; .004”, .016” and .021”.

    • @kenaston4220
      @kenaston4220 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CowfarmerDan I guess the outer seal was leaking oil that had passed through the bearing. Changing just the inner seal does hold the oil back though and is less of a job than trying to replace the outer one too.
      This video gives me confidence that I could replace the inner seal, refitting that shrink ring wouldn't be possible for me!
