Loved the setup, I think that the basket is a bit too tall though, some Stanhopeas have quite short flower spikes and they my rot before they reach the outside of the basket (in case it goes straight downwards). Also the husk is thin enough, before the blooms start to form, the inicial spike is not that fragile and will poke through it no problem.
Hi Dani - Love your channels! We have so much in common. I liked this setup so I repotted my stanhopea the same way about 6 weeks ago now. It’s a brand new plant for me which I received with 4 beautiful psuedobulbs about 2 months ago. So far it seems really happy and has started a new growth. I’m growing it outside on my patio here in inland SoCal. I would love to see an update on how yours is doing after 6 months from repot and then maybe a year to compare. Wishing you the best!
you won't have any problems with spikes coming through as you thinned the fibre out. I have used that same type and spikes suffered a lot. I ended up using the loose fibre to line my baskets. Also I found spag moss very acidic after some time. Am changing mix over to combo of medium Orciata and coco chunks. As for the spikes, yes they are tough, I actually broke skin with one on my Tigrina (very strong fragrance) last year. I live east coast of Australia ( outdoor growiing) and all my Stanhopea flower between Dec to Feb each year. Good luck and success with your Wadii.
Hi Dani, would you be able to do a video on what to do with an orchid (in my case a phal) after the flowers have all bloomed and now they are dropping? Thank you for the orchid content!
I am a beginner with orchids and I have been inspired with your videos..Thanks for your posts. I do have a question if I may....😊 Just bought some orchids from a nursery and a leaf is turning yellow. Is my orchid ok....I havent watered them since i bought them 5 days ago....any suggestions?
Nice work!😊 hmmm.. I didn't want stanhopea because wooden basket is not my cup of tea, but now hmmm... 🥰😍 Could you do video with your bigest orchids and orchids in bigest pots? I saw dendrochilum and 'the biggest cattleya'. i'm jealous. I remember another big orchids with variegata leaves, but I forgot the name. Compacted orchids are great, but a list of impressive ones would be great. I would like to have one big orchids in my collection.
I just bought a pot of Acriopsis densiflora. I think that it's a very cute orchid. I think I heard you mentioned densiflora in one of your video. Do you have this orchid in your collection?
Hey Danni, I think (guessing) that if a root can push through a leaf (which you couldn’t push your finger through) then it could push through the coconut fiber basket. I’m sure it will be fine. 😊
Do you soak your moss before using it? Yours always look so nice. I use the same moss you do but it is of course dry and compacted right from the package.
Does the Phaleanopsis shclleriana take the same care as a normal Phaleanopsis. Also if you put the shclleriana in brighter will it become more fragrant?
The Phal. schilleriana can take a bit more light almost like the bellina and yes with a bit more light she develop a stronger fragrance, i take care of mine as the same as all other Phals. they all come from the same tropical region like Indonesia and Filipines, it's a reason why theres a Phalaenopsis philippinensis ^^
I purchased a Sophranitis cernua recently and when I began repotting, I noticed that most of the roots have rotted ☹ I have it under fairly bright LEDs, do you guys recommend that I reduce the light while the roots recover? Similar story to the mini bulbo i purchased with the soph. Thanks all :)
@@linsfruit5240 Hi - thanks for responding. I purchased it planted in pure sphagnum that looked rotten. Its now in a pot the same size with bark perlite and a small bit of moss. But it has no roots :(
do you think this wire basket and coco mat set up would work for a staghorn fern as well ? i live in a cold canadian climate that makes a board mounted staghorn not really feasible.
@@MissOrchidGirl I'm going to try filling the longer cone-shaped version of these liners with my Vanda media and set them into the small wire-mesh trash bins I found that they fit into perfectly. 🗑 I think it will make a perfect vanda container. :)
I am new to growing orchids and only have 2 of them - at this point. I love your tips, knowledge and demonstrations and have been learning a lot from you! Thank You! But please pronounce 'algea' properly ....the 'g' sounds like a 'j' as in jump and juice. So sorry, I finally had to say something :)
@@teresabrockett7525 I don't think so. I was taught by British teachers, got a 93% in English in college, and looked the pronunciation up before I posted

@@teresabrockett7525 so sorry, I just don't buy it. I worked with a Welsh gentleman in a greenhouse for 13 years, and he also pronounced the 'J' as I said. I have NEVER in my 66 years heard anyone pronounce it like she does.
Since I was a greenhouse supervisor, I also attended many 'Greenshows' with instructors of all ages and ethnic backgrounds in the industry (after all, I'm in Canada and we have everyone from everywhere here) and never have I heard it pronounced as she pronounces it.

This happened to me, it was so sad.
@@dalboco same, happened to me and lost a spike that way
The straw of the basket contains salts so in my opinion you should first soak the straw and check the NPK of the water after soaking successfully
Very cute setup.Your videos are amazing.Im starting an orchid colection base in yours sharing tips and informations.Hugs from a portuguese teenager.
beautiful sharing my friend, i prefer basket with coconut skin. because i saw my mom did that. im not that lucky growing orchid.
I put two of my orchids in a basket like this and they are doing great.
What kind of orchids? 😃 I wonder if I can safely do it with my normal Phalaenopsis orchids 🤗
Excellent tutorial on repotting....love ur videos Danny...

What about doing this with vandas?
If you tray is deep enough use it.
Anyone speaking German around? How do you call in German this Coco fibre liner? Any idea where can I get such a thing in Austria?
I grew two of these types, and did not like the idea of the blooms only lasting a day or so.
