      Everyone we wanted to see versus just a name drop were going to be shown in the original but in order to even film the final 2 the had nix bringing everyone back. They would have had to pay for two weeks for everyone (including plane tickets) of lodging and provide PPE and more hairdressers and makeup artists. It wasn’t fiscally possible.

      I cried too, brother. What irony that Sam dies in season 5, Dean lives a normal life. But season 15, Dean dies and Sam lives a normal life. “I love you so much... my baby brother”😭💔👊🏾

      I think you need to realize WE saw the spike he didn't, Dean never looked over he was focused on his enemy. What the boys did was never for nothing. They saved the world on no less than 6 or 7 occasions, they gave free will to everyone, there was peace when they were done, Chuck threw them into those positions time and again in every other world brother killed brother... that's chucks ending, but they defied it and saved the world, team free will every time. This isn't necessarily their first hunt since being back we kind of notice they have fallen into a routine at the start it is highly likely they had several hunts, but those ones aren't important to the story we know how they went but, luck runs out eventually. Really go back and look at the series dean should have died on a hunt all the way back in episode 12. They scrape by barely a lot, and if their luck was completely gone or they really weren't good fighters they wouldn't have won against 5 on 2 odds. Especially when the 5 are faster, and stronger being vampires. Dean was always reckless he always knew he would go out on the hunt, even Billie says one of the ways he goes out was to a vamp in a nest.
      I think the point of not showing who Sam married was to me kind of the point. It doesn't matter. Dean went out the exact way he knew he always would, hunting things saving people. And Sam got what he always wanted he settled down for a normal life, it doesn't matter who he married because he was happy.

    • @mrmayhem1652
      @mrmayhem1652 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Exactly and since Chuck is not writing their story anymore, Sam and Dean are just like everyone else normal. They can die from anything and everything, they can get old and die or die unexpectedly like Dean did because Chuck is not controlling them anymore

    • @catrad7024
      @catrad7024 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Also, they cheated death by being healed by angels or making deals. Dean would have died in the first season after he was electrocuted, but was healed by the Faith healer using the reaper powers to transfer his illness. I think thats why this time he told Sam told him not to fix it, cause there was always a consequence for cheating death. And as Dean said, he knew he would die hunting at some point. And I do like that it was just from a Vampire pushing him into the nail. It reminded me of how Sam had died in Apocalypse world with fighting vamps, until Lucifer brought him back. Also, when Sam died at the end of season 2 from being stabbed in his back as well..again a huge parallel to the early seasons! If it was a sacrifice for something Sam wouldn't let him do it bc they would always find a different way.. And thats why Dean wanted Sam to say it was OK for him to go this time. Because this is the Only way Sam would be able to have a normal life and kids, and to pass down their legacy.

    I really disliked this ending. Not that Dean dies and Sam lived out his life (that was one of my early S15 predictions and I actually don’t mind that), but the almost complete disregarding of their found family. Family Don’t End In Blood is SUCH a huge part of this show and the only non-blood family they had in this ep is Bobby and Sam’s blurry wife. Like...what the hell happened to Eileen? What happened to Jody and the girls or Donna or all the alternate universe people? There is no way in HELL that they wouldn’t come to honor Dean for his Hunter’s Funeral (he even said at the end of S11 that he wanted a big one) or even call to comfort Sam. And not even showing Cas/Jack, there to welcome Dean to Heaven? I understand that COVID was a huge factor is people not being there physically, but phones/Face-time/green screen exits. And they had months to readjust and plan filming schedules to correspond with needed quarantines. At the very least, I’m glad they at least mentioned that Cas helped Jack fix Heaven, which hopefully means he’s out of the Empty. Still kind of pissed that they didn’t say anything at all about Eileen, though😒
    Also, I completely agree with the dislike of the cover of Carry On. I almost wish they had used the FanFiction version of Carry On. That would’ve been such an emotional call back to the impact of the show and the fans.

    • @sophiainthebuilding

      I honestly like to believe that the blurry wife in the background was Eileen. Even though there is a small chance of that I'm just going to say it was. Not to mention the actor who played his son looked very much like Eileen, so I'm just gonna believe it was her 😂.

    • @SeniorBaybee03
      @SeniorBaybee03 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@sophiainthebuilding I 100% want to believe it’s her, too! What makes me so mad is that it would’ve been SO EASY to imply that it was Eileen even if the actress couldn’t be there because of the COVID restrictions. Like, when Sam looks at her as he’s playing catch with his son and he turns to her, have him sign something to her. Or have even one picture of her on the mantel. It would’ve been that easy and everyone would’ve gotten it. It’s tiny missed opportunities like that, those are why so many people are upset with this ending. COVID doesn’t equal bad writing. And after 15 years, this show, these characters/actors and the fans deserved more.
      And obviously this is not me shitting on the actors. They did an incredible job with what they were given. They were just given a half-ass mess unfortunately.

      @@SeniorBaybee03 I'm with you there, it would've been great confirmation if they had a picture or SOMETHING in that episode indicating he married her. Also I know A LOT of people really hated the finale, but I'm kind of in the middle here. Now I'm not gonna say I LOVED the episode because that would be a lie, but I'd also be lying if I said I hated it. My feelings are sorta mixed really. There were some dislikes that I had about the ending. For instance the way Dean died. I would've been fine (😭) that he died but I would've preferred him going out a different way. At the same time as much as I hated the way he died I also understood why he died the way he did. Because of the whole Chuck not writing their stories anymore. But it did piss me off that there were barely any mentions of Cas and Jack. Ok fine they're not in the episode, but c'mon Dean and Sam barely talked about it at all. It also made me upset about how Jack just left and everyone was fine with it. Like he hasn't been their son for a good 3+ years at this point 🙄. Again I feel the same about the Wayward Sisters and all of the other people. Then again I do understand the restrictions of Covid. It still would've been nice to see Misha and some other actors on screen one last time yk?

    • @MARYWTHER
      @MARYWTHER 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree. As a Sam fan, I loved what they gave to the characters. I'm still sad kinda on the edge to have to imagine x years of his life without his brother, not really getting over his death, as proven by the scene in the car. It's something that I didn't like about Swan Song either, how Dean getting his happy life was at the expanse of Sam (originally he was supposed to stay in the cage and that would have been his "Kripke ending"). But at the same time, the Winchesters dug their own grave: Sam would have never gotten this normal life if Dean was still around, the writing never progressed towards a way for them to have normal lives while the other is still kicking. I also expected more old faces, but then I remembered that they juggled around Covid restrictions, so maybe that's why there was only Bobby (I mean, there are something like 10 minutes of episode missing?). But there is also truth to it: the Winchesters don't need to see everyone again (not on our screen at least): the story started with them, it ended with them and the rest we can speculate. It was sure that the last episode wouldn't be "epic" considering the show wrapped all the plot points on ep19. To me, both 19 and 20 should be considered as a whole to see what the "real finale" is. Somehow the show still managed to end with the brothers together, even tho I struggle wrapping my mind around the idea of one dying so many years before the other. But there was also the idea of "legacy", so if Jack couldn't be that "natural" legacy, then it fell upon one of them to have a child. And to have a child, one of them would have to settle, and I think that's what drove the choice of killing Dean, because... yeah, the show was about Sam. It started with Sam getting back into hunting, it was driven forward by Sam's quest of vengeance for Jessica, then carried on by Sam's "destiny" as Lucifer's vessel and so on. Even tho the show was ultimately about the two brothers, the one who had the most chance to build something after this life was Sam. It's a sad reality, but in his life, Dean was always the martyr, he sacrificed a lot for his family and all. I mean, you could expect the show to give him something back after all of this, but their choice can also be explained. I think it's important for Dean to have found peace and a real identity despite all this. You kinda wished he had more out of this life, but at the same time, it's like, as long as he's at peace then it's okay. Idk, the biggest hesitation point I have towards the ending is Dean's fate.

    • @DCF..
      @DCF.. 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MARYWTHER You wrote your feelings very eloquently! Mine are much simpler: I thought the story of the finale ep. was great, but the execution was a little disappointing, the spike on the wall kind of bugged me, I just wished he would have went out "in a blaze of glory" like Cass, like Crowley, Rowena, Bobby, etc. And the explanation people gave was "no more plot armor", but then you all but say that the Winchesters weren't that awesome as we thought without God's "puppeteering", so in fact the last 15 years, all of that was God, not the boys. And that's my issue with it. In future re-watch, I could just end on ep 19, and that would be a more satisfactory ending, much like I re-watch How I Met Your Mother with the alternate ending instead of the original one.

      @Iloveowlets 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But that's so untrue, from seasons 1-5 at least, Sam and Dean were characterized the complete opposite.
      As many people agree, this is probably one the worst tv show finales we've seen in a while. They completely disrespected the roots of the characters, and ignored any character growth that's happened over the last 15 years. They took snapshot stereotypes of the characters and gave them what they thought they wanted, but when you think about it these endings make no sense for Sam and Dean.
      Sam was always the one who was too similar to John, they butted heads so much Sam basically ran away. Sam's goal has always been independence, he didn't want a family, he wanted to break free, to have his own life. But Sam also knew he was always going to be a hunter. Every other time Dean died in the show, Sam never went back to trying to have a normal life, he simply threw himself into hunting. Hunting was Sam's life, he just couldn't stay away from it, it was what he knew he was good at and was what he enjoyed. He was "always stronger" as Dean put it. He knew what he truly wanted, and he knew that wasn't a family life.
      Dean of the other hand was always too similar to Mary, always desperately trying to make Sam and John get along, wanting to keep his "decimated little family" together. Like Cas said, Dean does everything for love, he cares too much about the people around him, he always tried to act "butch" and "manly" but in realty he was the most sensitive character on the show. He encouraged his mother to give up. hunting for a family, he wanted what was best for the people around him. He only became a hunter because that's what was expected of him, but that was never his true drive, no matter what he told himself. He hunted to protect people, not because he enjoyed it. He raised his brother, he's been paternal from the start, he deserved to have that again.
      So in conclusion, if the writers actually understood the main principles of these characters, they would've switched the endings. Let Sam get comfortable, let him throw himself into a hunt, let him die saving people, let him die doing what he loves in the arms of who he loves. Let him die knowing he's not a monster and that everything was worth it. If Dean had never shown up that fated day, he most definitely would've ended up settling down with a family. But Dean DID show up, Sam DUD become a hunter again, so why would he have an ending like he didn't go through anything?
      Let Dean has the family he always wanted, let him listen to Cas' last words and know that he's more than the hunt. Let him understand he's capable of bringing something good into the world. Let him realize it's okay to show emotion, and to want a normal life. Let him be who he wants to be instead of what other people believe he is.
      There's a reason this episode currently has the second lowest rating of a Supernatural episode EVER, it completely disregards Sam and Dean as characters and ignores their character growth. What happened to "Family Doesn't End With Blood"? They're not alone anymore, and they haven't been for over a decade, they learnt that it's okay to trust other people, so why would their happy ending be them separated and without anyone else they've considered family? It doesn't make sense.
      I respect other people's opinions, but this is not Sam and Dean getting their happy endings. This is Sam and Dean going out the way everyone else expected them to, and I hate that.

    "It's the literal removal of plot armor"
    Yeah this was made clear through this season. From the reveal that everything they did was because Chuck wrote it, through the reveal that without Chuck's protection they had died a long time ago. I mean even WITH Chuck's protection they were able to be killed on their bed by hunters (season 5, the Jeremiah/heaven episode) so if mere hunter could kill them with their divine protection anything could happen without it.
    I've seen people complain than "they fought this and that but he died against vampire?". Yeah. That's the whole point of the season. Dean fought to be free from Chuck's control and died knowing that not coming back was HIS choice and his alone. He died the way he wanted : killing monsters and saving people. The only argument I'm incline to agree with is how early in the episode that happened but with everything that happened after I understand it had to be done to stay in that 1 hour time slot.
    Side note : I've also seen a lot of people complaining that the ending sucked and that the series should have ended back in season 5 (argument that has been around since Kripke's departure). These people praise that original ending without realizing that it's literally a role-reversal of the ending we got (Sam "died", Dean had a family). The ending we got also is one Kripke himself approved and said made sense in the world he created.

    • @lollypop2414

      Well said and I agree 100%. While I wasn't crazy about the Chuck controlling everything storyline, it did tie back to the original five seasons and in the end all Dean wanted was freedom. He got that, but he also became a "normal" hunter because of it. His death and Sam's normal life afterward is the reversal of season 5's ending, except Dean got to go to heaven and in season 5 Sam was stuck in Hell with Lucifer and Michael/Adam. I would say this ending was ultimately better (and I say that as someone who has always named season 5's finale as my favorite episode of the series) because both boys ended up happy and at peace.

    There have been rumblings of a movie in the future. J2 also liked the possibility of a six episode miniseries down the road. I saw Dean asking Sam to tell him it's okay, as he had to finally feel he could let go and not be the protector any longer. He was fading but he would have struggled to his last breath to stay if that's what his little brother needed. And we all know Dean would be dying and drowning in guilt about leaving Sam alone and not come back.
    Dean did die fighting, and it was an impressive fight. Horrible accidents happen. It felt real and tragic and both Jensen and Jared did a hell of a job in that scene, with their personal feelings adding more layers and heartache. They have both confirmed there was a little more of themselves in front of the camera the last day. Dropping names, telling us Cas helped Jack construct the new Heaven gives all of us opportunity to run with our imagination regarding what happens next. I don't mind that at all. Did I want more? I agree with you guys. I think they probably had originally planned on doing more with this final episode. I would have loved for it to have been two hours long to flesh out the story more, to have seen more guest stars, to have had better old age makeup for Sammy. But with COVID and the extreme production restrictions they had to work under, I imagine what we got was the best they could do under the circumstances.

    Maybe Sam needed his son's permission to go as well as Dean needed his. They both would have done anything to stay, if Sam/Sam's son would have begged. And Sam needed it because he denied himself an early death (and yas, I mean suicide) to be reunited with Dean in Heaven sooner. But he did, what Dean always wanted for him: the apple pie life. But maybe it wasn't what he really wanted and he missed Dean so much, so maybe it was his salvation to be finally allowed to go.

    I thought it was perfect. Emotionally and fitting.
    But I DO agree with you about Chuck Melanie. I feel the whole Chuck plot though was fun to do as a final villain, had tons of holes. I still feel Chuck in season 11 and season 15 were way too dramatically different without any cause as to why. And now Chuck is gone, it's everything you stated. I think in a way, they did Chuck/God a little rotten. I still am mad that they made Chuck not able to see Jack and his absorbing power, or unaware by the boys planning. It just doesn't match up.. Because come on guys... ITS GOD.
    But taking that out, the last episode was bare bones, a hunt, Dean dying on a hunt and not to some vamp or demon, and it was a safe but beautiful emotional ending.
    I'm going to miss your guys' SPN reactions! Thanks for all the entertainment!

    The truth is, no matter how good this finale episode could have been, you can’t beat the original intending ending of season 5. The show should have ended there in my opinion.
    The stand out episode for me is changing channels, where it’s revealed that Gabriel is Gabriel.

    21:30 Hey guys! Just a bonus bit that dropped the tone not just for symbolism but also reference to S10.E8 Fan fiction. That’s the same way she sang it in the school play. Just a guess tho

    I do not care what everybody says or if it is a logical ending, whatever... I am honest with myself and I do not like sad endings, especially not now. Why should the main character die for the show to end. I can not see a damn good reason. It was not essential for the story. It could end many other ways.

    I think the cover of Carry On being included might have been a nod to both the group that did the cover, and to the fans, many of whom mentioned they'd like to see the cover used in a future episode at some point. I think maybe the directors at some point saw those comments and when the opportunity came for a melancholy moment, decided to use the cover as a nod to the fans. I really love that cover, and even Kansas posted the cover on their facebook page after the song came out, so I know they were fans of the cover, too. Speaking of Kansas, the song Carry On Wayward Son was released as a single 44 years ago TO THE DAY, on November 19, 1976. That was NOT unintentional naming the last episode Carry On on the 44th anniversary of the song's release. This series has brought a lot of new fans to the Kansas fanbase, and a huge percentage of the fanbase loves SPN including the band members. Such a neat relationship there between them. The fact that Kansas has been around for 50 years and is still making music, in my mind, qualifies them as supergroup status, there are VERY few bands that hang around for that long.

    I really like this ending, it feels as the natural conclusion of the show. To answer your question my favourite season is 5, I really loved the initial story (the apocalypse arc), seasons 1-5 are my favourite, but if I really have to choose one then I will choose the 5th one. It served as the original ending and rounded 5 years of build up masterfully, not to mention it introduced Lucifer and the OG Death and gave an emotional farewell to Jo and Ellen, also, let's not forget about Gabriel and "Changing Channels".
    My favourite character is Dean Winchester, obviously, I loved him since the very first episode I've seen (and that was the wendigo one which, yes, it's also one of my favourites), but in all honesty, I liked pretty much all of them, I couldn't say there was a character I disliked (at least from the recurring ones) but there were definitely some bland ones along the way (Raphael).
    Favourite episode? There are plenty to choose from, but I'll go with "Lazarus Rising". Like Eric said, it was a gamechanger, it flipped the table, it was the first time we saw the light at the end of the tunnel, a little glimpse of hope in a predominantly grim universe in the form of one of the best characters in this show.
    Thanks Supernatural for all this memories and thank you Blind Wave for your reactions, it's been a hell of a ride.

    They’ve been “off gods hamster wheel” all of the final season so it’s not like the first fight after someone dies proving it was always god saving them, it was a freak accident, how many of their allies died through out the series in similar ways, I’d rather dean go out the way he did rather then some random hunt, freak of the week killing him outright, that would feel like bull after everything they survived but come on... we all knew this series would end with the boys in heaven together, the writing has been in the walls for pretty much the entire series, especially since season 4 when they introduced angels into the show, overall I loved the finale 10/10

      The heroes' journey (S15E10) explained that Sam and Dean were, until then, given a plot armor by Chuck. At the end of the following episode, they get a new plot armor from Fortuna, the diety of luck. Now that they have accomplished their destiny by replacing Chuck with Jack, their heroes' journey is over and therefore, they no longer have plot armor. Without a plot armor, it only make sense that at least one of them would die from some random vilain.

      @@MoviesAndTvShowsAreSubjective I mean it was said in season 5 when they went to heaven that they die all the time. So it makes sense that without anyone watching them this is the thing that got Dean.
