My brother in law had a "Silver Winey" and we would get together as much as possible to do some Pheasant hunting with that dog. It was such enjoyment watching that dog work the area and then retrieve the bird once we shot. We had many enjoyable hunts with her and when she got to be to old and crippled up to hunt anymore he just let her be as comfortable as possible and not work her anymore. He eventually had to put her down and I went along. I am not ashamed to say that we both had tears in our eyes we we left the pet hospital.

In Michigan I take my dog up north for partridge season. He goes wild once we get off the highway and he realizes he not in the city any more and that he'll be doing something similar to this. The moral of the story is that dos like these need to be paired with outdoorsmen/women. They truly love doing stuff like this. If you hunt bird get a Weimaraner you will make them so happy if you take him on a hunt.

That low crawling is amazing. The dogs looking at each other and positioning themselves while hunting blows my mind. I've heard about how intelligent this breed is, and this is some proof.

Pointing is a natural instinct for some too! Most sporting breeds even if they are house dogs will alert to stimuli.

@AJPDRUMKID you could train on quite a bit such as pointing cause it is instinct but retreiving is a ittle tougher for weims to pick up

i have never taught my weim "pointing" before but when ever i get my lazer pen out and shine it on the floor, he points with his paws, i guess it really is there natural instinct

For both my weims the most fun part was always to get the bird/shoe/sock and bugger off with it while I chased after them.

That's the trouble with dogs with accute sense of smell.....they can smell the bird 2 miles away!
