The speakers will have a lot more headroom and clarity with a half way decent external mixer. As far as the wash FX. You could put them on totems or a couple of gravity stands right behint the 44's.

Did hooking up the speakers that way make any difference? I had a similar event where all the rain ran down and I had to stop to reassess and change my setup

Aux feed the subs from the mixer, that way you can dial it in a lot better. (Audio Engineer)

Sounds like you're not sure about your 44 G2's. A mixer will help you get that sound you want as gain structure is everything
that is scary. you can also you your tape if you have a roll. i mean it will be damaged but at least the power will be off the floor
if I have to be picky I would have to say change the white sign to black to match the speakers
