    Thank you for the clear instructions. Followed and battery replacement successful. Important tip for whoever else watches: First finish watching until the end of each step, before jumping in, e.g. when inserting the battery. I did take off the top plastic of the replacement battery too soon, but luckily the cells still held together during insert. I also forgot to put the touchpad bottom connector latch in the DOWN position before doing the P+R etc. power on... and had a slight panic when my Mac booted to the password recovery screen and I couldn't use the touchpad or keyboard. Quick re-watch of part where you reconnect trackpad fixed that ;) PS. The tool used for loosening the old battery == palette knife (someone else identified it for me) and it works as advertised.

    18:49 You can actually remove those 8 screws for the trackpad guard plate and clean it separately. There is no adhesive gluing it down and it comes right off. I did mine like that so I won't risk getting any fluid into the trackpad area. Made it easier to get a perfect clean and shine, and screwing the plate on back after.

    I used nail polish remover to help liberate the battery and clean up the adhesive from the case. It's worth a go as it makes it really easy !

    • @ItsBinhRepaired
      @ItsBinhRepaired  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, but very dangerous. It can dissolve plastic and melt the keyboard keys and film. Be careful with that.

    • @gideonb93
      @gideonb93 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ItsBinhRepaired are you sure about that? Ifixit basically put it in their kit and charge people $15 for it. I feel like they wouldn't sell it if it was that dangerous.

    • @ItsBinhRepaired
      @ItsBinhRepaired  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gideonb93 yes, I'm sure. That's why ifixit has people completely disassemble the laptop, which is unnecessary. I've had a customer spill acetone (nail polish remover) on their keyboard abs it deformed the keys and destroyed the laptop.

      Unfortunately I didn't have any alcohol or nail polish laying around, so I just used a old plastic credited card and slowly pried it off carefully. It's doable if you go slowly and carefully and only have to watch out for is puncturing the battery seals. I punctured one of the cells when using a mini minus driver with a metal head. A bit of smoke came out with the sweet smell. Stopped after that and just used plastic card since it's less likely to puncture the seals. Got the job done perfectly in the end.

    The easiest method to remove the battery that always worked for me is to take a thin nylon rope and push it underneath every battery piece on both sides. Few scrubbing moves and the job is done.

    The adhesive glue comes off easier with a citrus solvent like C22 Citrus Solvent Wig Adhesive Remover and than use rubbing alcohol for final cleanup

    • @ItsBinhRepaired

      Anything that dissolves grease would technically work. Acetone is the strongest, but could easily dissolve the plastics as well.

    While removing the adhesive that is on top of the track pad, is it okay to wipe the alcohol over the 8 screws on the track pad? First time fixing mines so should I be worried if alcohol seeps through the lining of the screws? Thanks in advance.

  • @genboyer

    I used this video and others to replace my battery. I didn't like the idea of using a metal bladed tool to cut through the adhesive, so I used a combination of a credit card and a plastic putty knife. I finished doing the entire operation in about an hour and half. Apple Store said they could not get a replacement battery and that I was going to have to buy a new laptop. So Ebay battery and 1-1/2 hours of labor, and I am up and running again.
