- HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Middle Tennessee women's basketball pulled away late on Wednesday night, holding Tennessee scoreless across the final four minutes of the game to defeat the Lady Vols 73-62 in the Probst Arena at the Von Braun Center.
The Lady Raiders (7-3) held a four-point advantage at halftime, shooting 7-for-12 from beyond the arc in the game's first 20 minutes to power their way to a 37-33 lead. Sifa Ineza gave MTSU that four-point lead with a steal and buzzer-beating three-pointer off a spin move in transition, sending the Lady Raider fans in attendance in Huntsville into a frenzy as time expired.
Jalynn Gregory would join in on the beating the clock fun in the third quarter, running MTSU's set play for an wing three perfectly, taking advantage of a final block from Anastasiia Boldyreva to stretch the Lady Raiders lead to 50-45 over the Lady Vols (4-5) with 10 minutes to play. An 8-0 run fourth quarter from Tennessee would give a 58-57 lead with 6:25 to play, but MTSU quickly responded by getting a pair of free throws from Gregory and another three-pointer on the fast break put the Lady Raiders up for good to end the night.
Gregory led the Lady Raiders with a season-high 22 points, buoyed by a 5-for-9 day beyond the arc. She also grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists. Boldyreva was a force in the post, just missing a triple-double while scoring 17 points, snagging nine rebounds and blocking seven Lady Vol shots, a new career-high in blocks for the Russian. Savannah Wheeler did post a double-double, scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds, nine coming on the defensive end.
By the Numbers
37-30: The rebounding advantage for the Lady Raiders on Wednesday. The first half was even more stark of a contrast, with MTSU outrebounding Tennessee 22-12 in the game's first 20 minutes.
13: Fast break points for Middle Tennessee. The Lady Raiders were able to turn Lady Vol Turnovers and long rebounds into points all night.
5: Lady Raiders with at least three assists. Courtney Whitson led the way with four dishes.

Career high in blocks for Boldyreva. It's the most by any Conference USA player in a game this season.
Ta'Mia Scott scored at least 10 points for the sixth straight game.
First career double-double for Savannah Wheeler. It was her 98th double-digit scoring game in her career.

"What a game, what a game. Two good teams, both battling to get a win. They've come off two or three losses. We come off a big loss to Belmont. Belmont just played good. Tonight, our kids showed some grit. We got behind, we did what we had to do. We hit some shots.
"What about Jalynn Gregory tonight with her three-points? God! Unbelievable. Every time I called her name or her number, she came through. Every single time. And you know? She's not been shooting well, but I didn't care. You know why? She's a winner."

I was on the right courtside watching this game. You probably will see me in this highlight once or twice in the black shirt next to the guy in the blue shirt. It was a really fun game to watch as I am a Vol fan but I go to MTSU. Congratulations to the Lady Raiders for beating the Lady Vols for the first time. But yall need Rickea Jackson back ASAP
