    Sooo.. the same thing happened to me. My friends and I wanted to go horseback riding while we were in Big Bear, CA. I called in to the business, they asked for our height and weight. When it got to me, the lady told me i was too heavy for the horse. I was a little over 200 lbs and was taken back. I felt bad and embarrassed my friends couldn’t ride because the refused to go without me. I thought long and hard for a minute and said this was a wake up call. I understood it was a living animal and they business set these precautions for the safety of the horses. So I hit the gym the next day got on a diet plan and have been determined ever since to get back on that horse!

    I actually double checked the restrictions for riding a horse when I heard about this story a month or two ago.
    You are not allowed to weigh any more than 20% of the horse's weight.
    After comparing her weight to the most common horse in the US, she was definitely over the limit.
    If she loved horses so much, she should've known that already, and lost the weight if it was so important.
    Edit: for those wondering, the most common riding horse is the American Quarter Horse, which weighs between 900 - 1200 pounds.
    The they don't say exactly how much the Tik Tok girl weighed, however they did say she weighed more than 240lbs.
    Which is more than 20%.

    • @smokedaddy101
      @smokedaddy101 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      I have to say I'm a little confused about the details on this story but as a guy who weighs 220 lb that's nothing for the horse I used to ride considering the average riding horse weighs a thousand pounds which means that you could only weigh200 to ride a horse. I hope everyone can see how ridiculous this sounds because men have ridden horses for centuries and surely most of those men wait over 200 lb especially going into battle. So I must have missed it but this woman must weigh way over 240 lb

    • @joerivas9847
      @joerivas9847 ปีที่แล้ว +125

      Even a person who is at the weight limit can hurt a horses back. Especially if they dont know how to ride or are a novice rider. , bouncing on the horses back will hurt the poor animal.

    • @ArionNoble
      @ArionNoble ปีที่แล้ว +140

      @@smokedaddy101 You have to realize that it is doubtful the average man before weight training evolved weighed more than about 210lbs unless very tall. The average life span was also under age 45 so there was less time to even get very big muscularly.

    • @smokedaddy101
      @smokedaddy101 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      And if the rule is actually 20% and they said they're Limited at 240lbs that means their horse weighs 1200lbs. I'm no physicist but a 1200 lb horse shouldn't have trouble picking up a 280 lb man

I was turned away even though I was in shape but I was still over the limit they set. It's just life and you gotta deal with it. Now if I was turned away because I LOOK too big without actually being weighed then sure maybe you can get upset unless you're obviously too heavy. I looked it up, horses can only carry 20% or 30% their own body weight. This includes the saddle and any other riding equipment. Theoretically a strong horse could carry a person of 400 lb, but the key word here is theoretically. Depending on the weight of the horse there is a very high chance that her weight including with the saddle could overwhelm the horse and hurt it severely. Giving it back or leg injuries and making it impossible for the horse to move because there's too much weight on their back. Even if the horse could possibly carry this woman it's not going to be running. So the owners made the right decision and she's just a petty little piggy.

    • @636_RunningSolo
      @636_RunningSolo ปีที่แล้ว +5

      How on earth did all those knights in full plate manage? They must have been killing a horse once a week!

    • @benrex7775
      @benrex7775 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@LargerThanCats Ever heard of warhorse being a separate type of breed? For more details see the video: "Medieval Misconceptions: HORSES" by Shadiversity.
      But there are other things.
      - People were probably smaller and therefore lighter back then. And knights armor is less heavy than you probably think.
      - And experienced horseback rider knows how to minimize strain which a layman doesn't.
      - If it's a personal horse then it will have optimized muscles and training just for the rider.
      - Perhaps the horse didn't live as long as modern horses.
      And here a bit of a background on where people go over the 20%-30% range. Swiss military uses Freiberger horses for material transport in the mountains where there are no roads for cars to pass through. (Yes, this unit still exists.) Freiberger weight around 990lb-1320lb. The saddle and other equipment weights around 88lb. Maximum cargo is said to be 330lb. This means maximum load on a heavy Freiberger is 31.66%. Why is that percentage allowed to be so high?
      - For one they are horses bread for that type of work (character, body type,...).
      - They have a saddle which is spreading out the load in an optimal way with little bounce and rubbing. And it is loaded in a way which is most easy to carry for the horse.
      - They only walk around 1.5mph with such a load, which is slow even for human walking speed. This reduces the strain on the horse to a minimum. If possible and necessary the terrain is also selected to be easiest on the horse.
      - The loads are adjusted to the horse. So tougher ones carry heavier stuff while weaker ones carry less. Same with bulky or noisy loads.
      - They are rarely loaded even close to the limit. Mostly because the repetition courses are too infrequent (once a year for 3 weeks) so that they don't have the muscles and hide necessary to support that load. Or in other words the horses are slowly getting used to the targeted weight over weeks or months.
      - They are under constant surveillance of the soldier guiding them. There is also a vet around almost all the time and once a week they get a thorough check besides the smaller ones which happen almost daily.
      - If the Freiberger would work 24/7 under the maximum allowable load then they would probably have quite a bit of backpain when they are older. And if they are not used to the maximum allowable load and suddenly have to do it for an entire afternoon without getting close to it previously then it would probably also have bad consequences. That's why the workload is adjusted to the horse, not the other way around.
      - It's the military. There a certain amount of injury is tolerated. Obviously nobody involved likes it and tries to avoid it at all costs, but in the end it could be about survival so some risks are tolerated which people in the private sector wouldn't be willing to put up with.

    • @LargerThanCats

      @@benrex7775 Turns out people were basically the same height, so no, you're wrong. Ah yes, the warhorse breed, lol. Ah yes a laymen on horseback as it walks around is too much for the horse to bear!
      Optimized muscles for the rider? Are you some kind of idiot? You must be to write that giant wall of text while writing inane garbage like optimized muscles for a rider, holy shit, lol.
      Why are you trying to explain things to me when you clearly don't know shit about horses? Thank you for copying and pasting from an article about horses in Switzerland. Care to make an actual argument for why a horse can't carry a 240 lb. woman on their back and walk around?

      and slowly more and more people are seeing it for what it is. Not saying there aren't double standards for men either, but you will find more men willing to admit there are double standards for both men and women. Most women feel they have nothing going for them being women and the whole world puts them down and you can't convince them otherwise. I mean fuck, just think about all the women who think they are afraid to walk alone outside at dark and think that is just women. Like how dumb do you got be to think that just being a man by default makes you comfortable enough to walk alone at night. I got neighborhoods i can't even walk into period, day or not. I go out of my way to stay armed as often as possible because i know what it is. The only real difference there between a man and a women is that man is actually willing to take responsibility for their own lives and will arm themselves in case something does happen. While women will talk about how scared they are of men or the night or being alone and don't bother getting anything to protect themselves. What they say consistently don't a line with their actions and its crazy.

    If the woman at the beginning who proposed to the guy, publicly, would've been a knockout hottie, it would've been no problem. But she was well beyond the wall=major cringe.

    I'm 5'7 guy and would say "okay" looking and height hasn't been a issue for me when it comes to women. I only can remember being rejected once because of height when I was like 19. Me and this girl hung out several times and when we were walking together on the street one time she was like "you're quite short aren't you?" or some shit and I could see like a sudden realisation in her face. I was just like "I guess" but she stopped talking to me after that night and I was like well damn. But beyond that, I found my height ain't been a issue and I think the reason why is because I don't pay attention to it. Just be confident in yourself and if some girl says you're short just laugh it off with a joke or play it off like you don't care.

      @@UltraGalacticSuperFantastic Actually no, we're still the same height up or down. But my brother is 6'3" and his wife is 4'11" and they have two children. Same with my mom and dad, 6'1" and 5'3" with 4 children. So height isn't all that important except for changing the light bulbs. lol

    Dude you remind me of Tom Leykis. I listened to his radio show in LA coming home from work every day. His goal was to teach men how to get laid for the least amount of money and teach women how men really think. His theory was there's a generation of men who have only been raised by women so they're extremely vulnerable to be manipulated by women so he's gonna be the dad these men wish they had. AFAIK Tom Leykis is off the air so someone has to rise up and take his place for this generation's men & women. I think you're that guy. Hallelujah
