I was on this cruise. I remember walking back from St Mark's Square to the ship and saw a paparazzi circus coming the other way. Haile Selassi happened to be visiting Venice at the same time.
I was on this cruise 1970. I.D. Trevor-Jones was headmaster of Richard Aldworth at the time. Had a good time. (once got over sea-sickness on first day, same as 90% of all passengers on board!)
did a similar trip in 1972 when i was 14. flew to venice day before my 14 birthday! . then 3 days in a force 9! to egypt and king tut's museum. onto greece and the parthenon. then it was crete, then malta and finally naples
I am 62 & went on 2 school cuises on the SS Nevasa. First was in 1970 to Sweden, Denmark, Finland & Russia. The 2nd was in 1971 to Iceland & then right down the coast of Norway, loved every minute of it, but didn't appreiciate the places I was seeing back then.
I was on cruise 258 in this period. I can't say it was the same one, but the locations are the same that I saw on my cruise from Braintree County High School.
Ss nevasa I'm 57 be 58 in November I was in jelico station I believe I was 12 we were in Iceland England Venice Gibraltar tunisia Lisbon Madrid Corfu I believe there was a problem with the Americans on board we were diverted to Lisbon I'm not sure I have no one to ask but that is what I recall this was one the best times in my whole life I wasn't fancy about the kidney pies and mars bars ..I recall asking where the can was and the reply was ooo ya mean the loo..and my first disco I walked around back roads alone and shopped I also recall people had purchased stuffed camel toys that were infested with fleas I took a lot of photos much to my mothers dismay of the back of a boys head with grand statues behind and scenery ...later my mother asked my then husband if he was ever on that trip ...yep it was his head in all the photos ...I still feel noselgic when I think about this trip I would love to go back in time to that time I came home a world traveler something not everyone got to do I knew I was very fortunate I have been traveling ever since
