And you had to deal with the album having a breaking point, even if it was in the middle of the song.
The US mono promo of July is a dedicated mono mix. There was no stereo release in the UK. The mono was mastered by Epic in the US from the master tape they received from Major Minor, then they created a rechanneled stereo version for general release. I think the US mono sounds amazing. You’re right, score of a lifetime!
There is a comment on discogs suggesting it is a fold down from the fake stereo. Honestly, I can't tell, so I would say it is the dedicated mono mix. I also think it sounds fantastic! Definitely the score of a lifetime! ✌☮
Congrats on that red vinyl “Moon Blood” by Fraction album! They sold out extremely fast and yes, one of Dillon’s most favorites! You’re building quite the awesome collection 😊
Getting a pristine mono promo of July for $150 is absolutely a "find," eBay or not. Incredible. Cactus and Spirit made some great music that remains quite affordable. Very cool you met Carmine. I once found a copy of that Ill Wind LP in the shrink for $1 at an estate sale. It was one that the kids had left behind among the parents' records when they moved out. Everything else in the collection was like easy listening! I bought it to flip and ended up getting $100 on eBay, but I wish I kept it. I remember it being a cool Tom Wilson production. My late collector friend loved Gracious.
The July Mono Promo is my best find ever, I could not believe they accepted my offer. Cactus and Spirit are both great if you're into the hard rock and Psych music. I really enjoy the Ill Wind! I love the psych rock. Gracious is amazing! Thanks for watching ✌☮
You definitely have an eclectic taste in music. Spirit's debut has a cool jazzy/funk/psych vibe to it. Caught the band on their "Potato Land" tour back in the 80's, when they played here in the U.K. Also saw Randy California on his solo tour, promoting his "Euro/American" album in '82. July goes for silly money. I managed to grab both 45's years ago, for roughly $15 each, with "My Clown" being an original U.K. copy, and "Hello Who's There" being a Belgian piccy sleeve. Not really that bothered for the album though. W-a-y too pricey for me!
It would've been pretty cool to see spirit live. July goes for silly money, but its also absolutely amazing in my opinion. On par with Piper at the Gates of Dawn and most psychedelic albums, and I thought that before I had owned a copy! The singles are awesome. I'd love to find em. Thanks for watching ✌☮
@@sorinvinyl1523 I have a re-issue of the album called "Dandelion Seeds" from 1987, which will do for me, unless I stumble across a decently priced copy. (fat chance of that!) Speaking of "Piper...", I did manage to get a U.K. mono copy of the album, in fairly decent condition, back in the 80's, although the cover is ripped! I need to try and hunt down a battered copy with a half decent sleeve, and do the ol' switcheroo!
@@sorinvinyl1523 Trouble is, it'll probably cost a bomb just for a crappy copy. The album was only $20, because of the cover, so it was worth grabbing for that price, and I'm always hunting for other stuff, so it's kinda on the back burner for the mo'.
Wow Sorin you struck fricking GOLD with that July album I could only dream of even touching it. My top album and my prized possession is my signed Paul McCartney Ram album!
Hi! Congrats on many great albums. Sandy Denny is amazing, love her voice. Gracious has some cool tracks, like Heaven and Introduction, on the "right side" of prog in my opinion. And July! Wow! Good score! Such a great LP (I have the UK original of it).
Hi Sorin, I have been collecting records since 1970 and have never seen a UK mono of July apart from those on discogs for crazy prices. You are very lucky to have seen that USA promo listed and to actually get it for that price, well done. Jealous. Great video, thanks for sharing with us.
What a result on the July Sorin! I've said it here previously but it's my number 1 want. I held a UK copy at Utrecht a decade ago or so and it was £1000 in vg/vg+ shape. Hi Sorin, looks like you've been busy. I've never seen a mono US Spirit debut. I do have the Sundazed mono reissue though. You failed to mention the story behind the song "Taurus". I'm guessing you know about it though. What version of ILL Wind did you get? The 2nd press with no drop outs at the end of the track High Flying Bird? Discogs states it has a repeated section, I don't think that's true. Wow that July is amazing! There is no true stereo mix of that. The stereo mix is rechanneled stereo. So, the mono mix is NOT a fold down. Congratulations on that! I wish it wasn't in your thumb nail though, I would have enjoyed the surprise more. Later

You probably noticed that someone on eBay has the mono promo of July and he's asking $2000 for it. He's had it for a long time and no one's gone for it yet. I bought the U.S. stock copy of July way back circa 1984 when the album was just up and coming. It didn't have the rep that it has today and I think the price I paid back then was around $25.
