Decree can be preliminary as well as final. Decree is operative part of Judgement. Judgement comes before decree. The definition clause of 2(9)CPC is not happily worded. There are a lot of sections which are not happily worded and their interpretation is clarified under landmark judgement of CPC. Please stay abreast with case laws to understand them more.
Shivani Ma'am, we were taught in our college that judgement comes first , then decree follows it. 2(9) states that statement given by judges on grounds of decree or order, we were taught that decree is kind of summary or we can say operational part of judgement so the grounds on which decree came, statements related to it were given in judgement. This was taught to us in college. Ma'am at 58:40 , you taught that decree comes before judgement .Kindly clear my doubt ma'am,that which interpretation is correct because both the statements are contradictory.kindly help in this regard ma'am.

your interpretation is correct. it is on the basis of the judgment that a decree follows. refer section 33

Ma'am sec.23(3) is now redundant as no HC is subordinate to any other HC, so we can directly go for the application u/s 25 for transferring the case from one HC to another.

Decree follows judgement and that's why judgment pronounced first and after that decree is made by court..

No judgement can simply be defined as detailed order given after decree
Judgement is a decision given by the court by determining the facts and issues of the case. After coming to the conclusion of all issues and facts the judge gives a reasoned decision to it.
Whereas decree is a formal expression that determines the interest of both the parties conclusively. Here the rights of the parties are determined.
A judgement can be of any number of pages it can be 1-1000.. xyz. Whereas a decree is usually of 1-2 pages. Which only states that what are the rights of the parties after the judgement.
In short we can say decree is the abstract of judgement.
