These discs were very prone to cracking. If I remember correctly many moons ago there was a recall on the discs. The engine should be tappety. If the engine is quiet the clearances are wrong and you may drop a valve, which is a common problem. Noisy is good. If you haven't done it already try to get hold of a manual and check the head bearings. They are very sensitive to too tight, too lose or worn head bearings. A cool bike.
Yeah just not used to the tap tap tap. good to know it's ment to be like that. Valves are in spec. I have had the headstock all apart the grease was all dry.
I have owned a couple of air head BMW, the sound from the engine on the video sounds ok to me, all old push rod engines are noisy and tapity. Good ride out the bike looked like it was going great pulling well, enjoy.
That engine 'thrum' sounds great, a bit like my W800 in fact. You were enjoying yourself too which is just desserts for getting it all together, well done Sir. Great luck to have spotted that disc before major excursions are conducted.
I had a lovely R65, it failedon me once when the negative battery cable became loose. And I failed it another time by unknowingly switching the kill switch off.

yeah i have been comparing others and my sounds about the same they all sound odd
Really glad you spotted the disk mate 🙂
I hope I get to see that bike sometime.
Constant fettling with these bikes, I also get paranoid with mine running right.
It does my head in tbh
Well mine made it around Scotland almost trouble free
Are you considering replacing that "suicide" stand to a normal unit? Good thing you managed to catch that unfortunate cracked front disc
wait till the next video the bike is not quite done yet

Yeah 🤣
Nice ride out. Hope the electrics soon sorted, but those bars! I’d need some decent-length ones on such a big bike. Enjoyed the trip, thanks. Les
they feel odd but i am getting used to it
Good catch on the disc. It sounds like you're adapting to the bike, and it looks like it's running great. 👍
Can't wait for spring

oh dear :S i have had to bypass my kill switch as the buttion was faulty so i hope my bodge holds
If it's any help so you have a starting point for roughly working out fuel / distance my 78 R80/7 does 46mpg.
Yeah I hoped it was at least that
Great stuff bud, side stand looks a bit dodgy, have you compared it to a similar bike. ???
yeah there all like that, terrible haha
If you happen to attend the Sunart Wildcat Rally there will be a genuine Airhead Supreme Geek in attendance. He'll be able to give you plenty advice.
😉
