Bravo professor. Clear and excellent explanation. This is one of those moments where you find yourself in a high-level math class reviewing the basics and getting a totally fresh perspective from a superior educator. Thanks Mr. Woo.
Absolutely best video on newton's method. The only single one that goes over how that formula was derived. Everyone else just took it for granted and said just use it.
This guy is amazing! Everytime that I need to look for some Math content and I find out there's a video from Eddie Woo regarding it, I automatically know that I'll have a moment of pleasure learning and understanding everything. Thanks a lot, Eddie!
Prof Eddie never fails to excite me about math, was trying to find a good explanation for optimizing using the Newton-Raphson method in ML a now I know it well. Love from India;
Yess thats what I've been looking for. I can finally make sense of that formula. My teacher would just read out everything on the powerpoint and then threw us some questions.
You can do that nicely with a calculator. Enter 2 = and then enter Ans-(Ans^2-3)/(2*Ans) and press = a few times. 1.75, 1.732142857, 1.73205081. 1.732050808 and then it stays the same
Very well explained Professor. I wish many of my 'upper division' mathematics courses had been taught with the clarity and enthusiasm you bring to this subject. Thanks for sharing this
*Dear Mr. Eddie Woo one day I will create the biggest college in the world very soon and I will gather all of you ....I think you are the superhero of your time*
Hello, I am an Arab from Iraq. I am studying to explain that you are studying in an excellent manner. I hope that you will translate the rest of the materials. We in Iraq study these materials as well. Thank you for your beautiful explanation.
You mean the tangent is parallel to x axis, i.e. the curve itself is parallel to the x axis which mean its not any parabolic curve, a straight lin only which is either not cutting the x axis(parallel to x axis) or coinciding with the x axis, hence the solution of that equation or curve would be constant and w.r.t. y axis i.e. somewhat like y=7 or y=0(x-axis) or any other constant.
how do you do approximating exponential, logarithmic or trigonometric values using newtons' method when you need to do 2 or more iterations to close in the values desired, without using a scientific calculator or taylor series ?
As a fellow Australian, does anyone know what level of math this is? I have significant gaps in my knowledge and I want to go back and understand the fundamentals of math so I can grasp everything that is happening here.
Hi I accidentally discovered a formula for finding matrix calculus and I named it the khalam Newton method the method takes the derivative of determinant and it converges very fast I thought it's an discovery if you are intrested we can talk about that
Bravo professor. Clear and excellent explanation. This is one of those moments where you find yourself in a high-level math class reviewing the basics and getting a totally fresh perspective from a superior educator. Thanks Mr. Woo.
Am I the only one who gets excited while the professor is explaining?, You're amazing
Me too!
Eddie woo explaining things is just sooooo nice
4 years on and still the most impactful video in this field. Keep up the amazing work Edward
5 years now
12:46 u know the concept is taught when the students go "woooooow"

I learnt this technique in my college sophomore year, and here this guy is teaching it at an high school. WOW!
a high school*
Is it computer science though? No way they're learning this material in highschool
@@djangoworldwide7925 Im in grade 11 im learning this

Holy guacamole fudge balls, your maths teaching 😍😍you’re too smooth with it. How have I just discovered you❤️❤️❤️
A+++++. Please do videos for explaining algorithms also. This is outstanding.
Yes please
Phenomenal explanation. Thanks so much!

Thanks a lot, Eddie!
I love my calculus professor, but man I wish he would have explained it like this. This makes so much more sense to me now! Thank you!

I hoped you pressed F for respect. Eddie Woo is clearly an exceptional educator... one of the real ones 👏🏽☺️🙌🏽
lol there's a reason i'm here instead of in class. very enthusiastic! i enjoy it
Thank you Mr. Woo for making these videos! You have helped me tremendously!
solid explanation with the triangle bit, thank you!
wowwwww who else gets excited when the maths makes so much sense. thank you Eddie Woo
Wow finally someone actually explains that equation!
i have never seen such a friendly mathmatics teacher ever , this is insane
Thank you for your wonderful lectures
"Look ma, no equation!"
I love it! XD
The greatest teacher of ever.happy to come here
Mannnnn, i love the way you explain things
I love your energy!!!! Thank you for this :D
Very well explained Professor. I wish many of my 'upper division' mathematics courses had been taught with the clarity and enthusiasm you bring to this subject. Thanks for sharing this
869k subscribers all of them well deserved havent heard a cleaner explanation ever in my life
love your teachings man, instantly cleared up the doubts I had. Thank you!
This guy deserves all of this praise. Great teacher

Awesome explanation! I was first read about this method in SICP and the wikipedia page fucked me up. Glad this video exists.
the best explanation I have ever seen
best video of this method so far
perhaps a stupid question, but what happens is accidentaly the tangent happens to have a slope of 0?
How do algorithm's deal with that?
You mean the tangent is parallel to x axis, i.e. the curve itself is parallel to the x axis which mean its not any parabolic curve, a straight lin only which is either not cutting the x axis(parallel to x axis) or coinciding with the x axis, hence the solution of that equation or curve would be constant and w.r.t. y axis i.e. somewhat like y=7 or y=0(x-axis) or any other constant.
You are amazing. Best explanation I've seen on this topic.
You helped me understand bases as well. You are simply amazing.
Thank you very much for your work!
You are very hardworking ..... appreciated 👍
Excellent Mr Woo, you are brilliant
I deeply admire your teaching sir.

Great video
Awesome video

Eddie Woo is the man! He's like, a less notable Feynman but for math
Best teacher ever
First many thanks
But I think that it was the formula should be equal to x+ (fx/f'x)????
Could you please clarify why it x-( fx/f'x)
With my respect
can you pls share link to the previous lesson using bisection method in the video desc for comparison. Thanks
Love it!
Great explanation
How to calculate initial guesses when not provided?
You guys know where the 1/16 and 1/2 at 11:25 is coming from? I can't the see the function at the beginning.
f(x) = x² - 3, f'(x) = 2x
x_1 = 1.75
x_2 = x_1 - f(x_1)/f'(x_1)
Fantastic sir!!
why would tan be the f'(x) that point that they were talking about at the top of the triangle
Is this similar to gradient descent in machine learning? Asking for a friend.
ur brilliant great explanation of wher th formula cmes frm thnx alot
great lecture
This is AMAAAAAAAAZING
r(2) < a 에서 우변으로 이항하면 0 < a - r(2) 양변 제곱하면 0 < a^2 - 2a*r(2) + 2
2a * r(2) < (a^2 + 2)
r(2) < (a^2 + 2) / 2a 끝!!!
thanks profesor grimley
perfect explanation!!! Thank you
very informative
Perfect, thank you!
thank you eddie woo 🙌any wooheads in chat⁉

Thank you! that was so awesome :o
THANKS
Amazing!!!
At last I understood what is Newton's Method.
is this a high school course?
cheers bro
THANK YOUU
Bravo :-)
.
Vay amk
and this is the single most useless and arrogant teacher on TH-cam. I am definetely not the one, who was or will search for videos with him.
Mr Woo is far to over excited to be a good teacher - needs therapy
