Brooks go to 2” split short. They’re super short and have a big split but no issues due to the liner they have built in. Testing my Ultimate Direction hydro skin shorts tomorrow, they’re basically half tights with built in water holders and phone pockets.

I wear new balance 5” running shorts. They’re not too short, but aren’t long either. They’re perfect and very agile as well as light! BOA (Runners Warehouse) makes really great shorts as well, but I have very muscular upper legs and 1”- 3” wouldn’t work for me. They look awesome on petite/thin people though lol.

Brooks Sherpa 5” but not their latest version. The latest version had pockets that are useless. I also just switched to the Smartwool 5” and love them. Wool running shorts?? Yeah. And they are are comfortable and the odor fighting merino wool is amazing. I’ll still wear my older sherpas but these smartwool shorts are now my go to shorts.

No. 1 requirement for me for a running short is NO liner. I know they are supposed to help reduce chafing but liners chafe and irritate me. So NO liners for me.
That being said, it can be difficult to find running shorts without a liner. I have two in my line up right now.
My current go to is a Running Room (Canadian running retail outlet store brand) Fit-Wear 7-inch. I would prefer a 5-inch but when going liner-less, there are not many choices. These are a nice light running material, great for the summer.
My other short is a 5-inch Lululemon running/yoga short. They are made of a heavier material, like the Lululemon yoga pants so they provide great insulation in the right areas (if you know what I mean) in the winter.
Both shorts have at least one zip pocket for important things like house or car keys that you may need to take with you on your run.
I look forward to reading what others have posted.

I have Salomon 5" shorts that are awesome, primarily because of the rear zippered pocket. This pocket is big enough for an iPhone 7 in an Otterbox case!!!! And there are additional elastic pockets on the sides that work well for holding gels.

salomon exo twinskin.. my go to summer shorts. as a heavier guy i need to protect my thighs from chaffing more than most. So I like a a 2 in 1.. BUT.. after I run the outer section comes up in the inside which is not a flattering look. These twinskins are awesome due to their construction. chaffing protection and the design means impossible to have that crotch ride up. Also super lightweight and supportive. Path Projects with the Path Projects 5 inch base liner. By far the best combo.

The Columbia Montrail shorts are awesome! They have the best liner in a short I've ever worn.

QOD: I love the Nike aeroswift purple shorts, they’ve got 4 pockets and they’re super fast feeling and I love the split. Perfect!

Do have any durability issues with the AeroSwift?

Clint Eden I have the 2019 version I think, I bought them off eBay for 40 bucks. The draw string in the waste band doesn’t work (prolly why they were so cheap) but I fit perfectly in them so it’s all good. I haven’t experienced any issues in them and Ive run weekly in them for about 2-3 months now

Aeroswift is always much recommended, a shame almost all of them have an irritating liner

Nike Fast 2” running shorts. The best shorts you will ever buy. About 24$ on Runners warehouse.

QOD: I've enjoyed the Adidas "Run-It" 7" shorts that I always pair with color matching Adidas Alphaskin short tights. For winter/colder running, I'll use Target's C9 Champion warm tights (worn under shorts) and for even colder weather (20's degrees F and colder) I'll run the warm tights with the C9 Champion Training Pants. Super comfortable and not very expensive!
