  • You might think that someone on the level of David Harbour wouldn't need acting class, but acting is like a muscle and there is no actor that wouldn't benefit from a good workout.

Actually... Vivien Leigh was rather amazing. She's English, not some southern girl, but was chosen to play Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind (chosen over a boatload of other actresses). She was perfect in the part. No mean task. She wasn't 'Method' like Brando ... but still... !

Vivien Leigh was a British actress married to Laurence Olivier. She won two academy awards for Best Actress in Gone with the Wind and A Streetcar Named Desire. A really great actor and great foil for Brando!

David Harbour is a big guy.

Whoa, David. You're a little out of your element saying Vivien Leigh isn't an actor or on the same level as Brando. If anything, I don't know that he was on her level and they both did a brilliant job. She crushed her role in Streetcar. She played it on the stage numerous times. She knew the role backwards and forwards. The Brando worship has clouded your judgment.

She was definitely a different type of actor, but no less in the same league or even beyond Brando.

While I don't agree with David's take here, it's not an unpopular one. I wouldn't consider it ignorant or slanderous.

Vivien Leigh was playing Blanche in the West End. She was an artist and she graduated from RADA.

@@andreaandrea6716 Because he was strongly implying that she wasn't an actor of Brando's caliber. Meanwhile, she won two Oscars, the same number as him.

Robert R Well winning Oscars wouldn’t exactly mean you’re as talented as someone else. Winning an Oscar could just mean you’re popular during that period, the people voting like you for whatever reason, or you were in the right movie that season. Many other factors beyond quality of acting.

She could still be a good actor. Not being as good at acting as Marlon Brando is like not being as good at Basketball as Michael Jordan.

So, does the actor’s studio suck now? I always wondered that. Any actor who’d like to reply, I’m listening. Thank you.

His point about Harbour struggling to find 'worthy' scene partners is absurd for 2 reasons.
Number 1) It assumes that because Harbour landed a great role and does a good job in Stranger Things, he is now on a level above actors who haven't reached those heights. It completely ignores the fact that actual skill and talent counts for about 10% of a casting. Chances are almost 100% that there are people we've never heard of that act rings around David Harbour.
Number 2) David Harbour is decent in ST. Nothing more. Fair play to him for doing a good job in a once in a lifetime role, but to suggest he's going to struggle to find similarly-skilled scen partners in his class is laughable.
