how MOB GRAZING results in amazing pasture growth: it's cattle psychology!

  • Do you want lush, high energy pastures? Then mob grazing is the answer! After a spring spent grazing large paddocks, the grass has gotten ahead of us, and we're starting to mob graze our Dexter cattle. In this video, I explain the benefits of mob grazing and how to set up mob grazing paddocks, and how mob cattle psychology works. I also discuss the pros & cons of other grazing methods, including whole-field, rotational, and strip grazing.

    Dont you just love Sammy. There are always some who have a friendlier and placid temperament .
    Great film, gives me food for thought about my 32 acres where I have ( usually ) about 23 cows for 5 months. The main planning issue is having water easily available. In one of my fields the trough is about in the middle and so I can use electric fencing to make segments like orange segments but where the trough is at the edge it isnt so easy.

    Learned a lot from this, thank you! New to our property and trying to figure out how much permanent fence to build before jumping into large animals. Seems like you do almost everything with temporary wire?

    • @JustaFewAcresFarm
      @JustaFewAcresFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Our "permanent" perimeter fences are T-posts with 2 hot wires. Nothing more is needed if your animals have good temperaments, and this type of fence can be easily reconfigured if needed. If you look back at our past videos there are several that discuss it.

    Science hard at work! All we did was let cows out on the back 40 (and it was literally 40 acres behind the house and barn yard) in the spring then round up the herd in fall to separate the animals going to auction. We could have done so much better.

    Open graze with just a few of AGH's wrecked my field. Clover first, then dandelions, then crabgrass, it let the fescue take over. My pigs are so picky on what they ate on that big of area. Great organic way to de-weed your lawn but they don't care for fescue. You got some good content on this channel, keep it up!

    • @crazycoyote1738
      @crazycoyote1738 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you are planning to divide those 2 acres to 10-12 paddocks, you can get up to 4-5 adults Dexter, assuming you have average weather and rains about once per week or so.
      If you are in Arizona, you can have a goat:))

      @JustaFewAcresFarm  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2
