I think the cinematic adventures for Alien work really well, with the pre-gens the ground work is already there. CoC of course always works, and there’s free into rules and adventures for it too. Even on Roll20.
I always feel like the most important bit is the buy in from the players. That they will go check out that strange sound, that they won’t just kick down the door but act like they are in a horror movie. Oh yeah, Delta Green also has a nice free intro adventure. :)
I’ve run a few of the Alien cinematic adventures and the mechanics are really well-suited for horror, especially stress. The players have an amazing time being freaked out!
Bravo, great video. There’s nothing better than the tension of a good TTRPG horror game. The two best game sessions I ever ran were the Call of Cthulhu scenarios Dead Light and Edge of Darkness. Both were supposed to be an afternoon’s start, and both turned into eight hour sessions because the players did NOT want to stop.
Doing a Lovecraft (without the racism) like Victorian D&D Campaign right now. This is very helpful. Thanks to you I did a deep dive session 0 and it really helped, based on past experiences I need to avoid some stuff like slasher horror. Thanks for that tip!
Great tips! This is truly the most wonderful time of the year.
Truly! I am normally so scared of horror stuff... but I get brave during ALL HALLOWS SEASON!
