People, do you realize this track is a quarter of a century old and can still kill the dance floor and is better than most of the tracks being produced today!? Hauntingly simplistic but way ahead of its time! Long live true house music!
I'm a DJ who decided for now to dig only in the late 80s et not go beyond the '95. I work only on vinyl. I take risks using only this high standard music for the dancefloor and let me tell you, people do realize only after the DJ switch. This music has to be teached at school, because it drawned under all of this bedroom music made by self-taught producers...nothing to do with the work of real composers, people actually able to read, write and play music havin' thick and complexe structures! The audience can understand, the problem now are music selling platforms, producers and DJs :) Long live true house music!
Now its nearly 40 years since it was released and it still stands as probably the best house EP. Marshall Jefferson was a genius for this type of thing. This wasn't as big as Adonis or Move your body or the acid stuff but it holds up much better over time.
After 418 songs (the count at time of commenting) I've finally reached the end of my Underground Classics House journey. An incredible amount of amazing songs, most of which I've never heard before and have subsequently added to my own playlists for repeat listens. Thank you Mr.Uploader for compiling a wonderful list of tunes from this important musical moment in history. I await for more with great anticipation!
Marshall Jefferson has told in many interviews that all the tracks on this EP he made solo - no Vince Lawrence or Adonis. Vince Lawrence helped put this out on Trax. Adonis was supposed to put two of his own tracks on the B-side, including 'No Way Back' but then he realized the potential hit in his track and decided to pull it in the last minute for his own solo release. Marshall Jefferson put 'Free Yourself' and 'Under You' quickly together so the EP could be complete. That's why these tracks are simplistic and minimal in their nature. But very hot tracks some early deep house right here!
I was in the recording studio for all these recordings as well as for the recording and mixing of move your body. My book will have truth about these session and many others. If anyone have any questions that you would like be answered email them to adonisrecordings@yahoo.com I'll address them in my book.
@@AdonisRecordings No you weren't in the studio for Free Yourself, Under You, and R U Hot Enough. "My Space" I put together from your bass line (I added the top line) and finished the track AND gave you songwriters credit (you're welcome) which you're still probably collecting today as I didn't want to work with you after you pulled "No Way Back" from the E.P. and i hope you haven't forgotten how arrogant you were after "No Way Back" came out. Also you can't name a single part or even drum that you played on any of those tracks so stop misleading people.
Like I said before if u didn't hear this in the Garage, then you didn't hear the FULL EFFECT OF CHICAGO HOUSE MUSIC RIP LARRY LEVAN You revolutionized people's with this track!!
One of the best electronic tracks ever made. It has a magical feel to it which is hard to do with the few basic 80s synths that were used on this. Those phased cymbals still sound amazing, some sort of Eventide fx unit.
when ya hear some AGGRESSIVE & slamming commercial House song (w/a zillion & 11 hits) and the Sheeple are so excited...SEND THEM HERE! The real! The Prince Of Dance
Love this song! It was a late night or should I say early morning anthem when all the hardcore Zoners were still grooving at The Twilight Zone in Toronto 💗 38 years ago! Wow
where the fuck did u dig some of these up? AVID collector and this blows my mind. from the southside of CHICAGO and still cant get/find these. thank you sooo much for the memories and for keeping chi-town alive and running with these wonderfully rooted deep tracks. PEACE
Me and I don't know you Mike gee buy this is the free yourself I remember also...and the title speaks for itself...cause that's exact what you did when Larry played this...especially when Larry at 6:30 am would calm down the club and play something just for you to listen too..while you get some punch or something...then he would put on the sound of a thunderstorm...then you knew he was about to take you to the place again..and sometimes he would start back off with this song
WOW... that's what makes the Garage so legendary, I've been to the Garage just once and I believe the people who told me that I didn't get the full treatment music wise BUT!!! can tell from that one visit the pure magic of moment. Don't feel bad for me though because I got (what I consider along with many others, in and outside the scene) an experience that was just as great at Club Zanzibar.
Ζαχαρίας Φάμελλος you can hear the flam being used around halfway in. As far as I know this is a feature of the 707 not the 505. Regardless of the machines this is a great and sincere piece of music
will you know i am a male virgo i like rock music classic music and techno music like hardstyle and euphoric hardstyle music as well i all techno really and rock rap and r&b i cut off my life there getting boring . i am done with those two . but i do like piano classical music for some reason that calms me down.also i love assassin creed classic music as well i love her sound tracks they have in all the games .
A true Chicago classic sound. But New York Mixed it better. Larry levan the garage, WBLS 107.5 in a class by itself. 98.7 kiss 💋 master mix. Thx to Chicago the originals who started it all.
Have only heard this at 2 clubs , Shelter and Zanzibar, didn't like it at Shelter as Steve Dash subs didn't equal the lows of Richard Long's (mids and the highs did though) , the kids danced to it better at Shelter. But musically ,for me anyway, it was deeper at Club Zanzibar.

What a track... ❤️

Yaaaaaaaaas fiyyaaaah
Marshall Jefferson is the Quincy Jones of first generation house music.
Now its nearly 40 years since it was released and it still stands as probably the best house EP. Marshall Jefferson was a genius for this type of thing. This wasn't as big as Adonis or Move your body or the acid stuff but it holds up much better over time.
I saw the face of GOD one morning when this was played at Club Shelter (like 90 or 91).
The Trax sound is undeniable. I miss my vinyl collection. ... J
brings me back to being a 15 yr old in the 80s. This stuff was big in London even before acid house parties
Virgo, criminally underatted 🙂
You think Marshal Jefferson is underrated? nah.
One of the most amazing tracks ever. Long live NY underground dance scene.
Courtesy Of Chicago 🙌🏽
This is Chicago Style House
this track is everything!
You already know my dear
Yesssssssssssss ❤️🔥❤️🔥
I think i love you
All the songs on this EP are good. Its probably the best of the chicago house. No silly jjjjjack jjjack samples.

Still a House banger in 2023
love how the recent "lofi" house scene returned to this sound - not as good obvs but resulted in some great tracks
Man this track takes you into another world when you hear it!!!!
Funny you should mention that, I felt that too !!! Only it was on RLA's second best system at Club Zanzibar but none the less this song is pure magic.
mike gee, i. knew this in Frncois album in several years ago and was shocked that i was not aware....but felt i was lucky i finally knew this
@@skfj67 I know this is late but I been to Zanzibar and heard that RLA system. The paradise garage sounds system was even crazier!!

Wow I love the story behind the story of how music came to be, the politics, thank you so much for this gem.

This one of the nastiest Trax joints ever.......my favorite might be "The Jungle"
One of the best electronic tracks ever made. It has a magical feel to it which is hard to do with the few basic 80s synths that were used on this. Those phased cymbals still sound amazing, some sort of Eventide fx unit.
club workout on this one wow!!!!! CLASSIC. Larry mixed this with chip e's "like this" one night (like like like this!!!)
reminds me of CHICAGO SUMMER HEAT...cant wait to be back in chi town....portland suxxx...nothing but emo indie music...two weeks and counting
