Aw, Retro Computer Shack RGB-cable... Warms my heart, that one. Such quality stuff. My +2 (and me) approves! All the best to you too, Mark! Been enjoying your videos for a long time and hopefully we can still enjoy a video (or two), now and then...
Thank you again Mark. Yes we are very forgiving, and encouraging. And always want you to succeed and produce more entertaining and informative videos. In fact it is our privilege to support you. We are not worthy.
I had this exact reset issue with an Acorn Atom. It turns out the axial capacitor had completely dried up. I don't know what it is with Acorn's axial capacitor stock, but I've had many way out of spec.
Nice to see you're still cranking up videos, I love your content and delivery. To be honest, your last video got me a bit worried but here you are, brightening up my Saturday :)
I heard that Manic Miner tune and it transported me back to WH Smiths in the 80s when we would all hang around in there playing on the computers lol We'd usually been booted out of Alders, Laskys and Boots by then.
HI Mark...i have a Spectrum plus "yes i have put cream on it" could you direct me to that Gizmo that you plug " plug is a funny word" into the speccy that allows you play games from a STD card. Sorry i meant to say SD card ! its hard too clap!!!lol I think it was a DUTCH Cap sorry i meant Chap who put them together. kind regards from one of your loyal fans!! was going to be rude about fannys. But stopped myself. dammit. Dieter
I have 2 grey 128k spectrums, I repaired 1 of them and socketed all the ram, I was on a roll I thought, as it was rather successful, so I decided to do the same to the other spectrum right away, what an absolute disaster! Pads flaking off like fish scales! Them speccy boards vary very widely in quality, and it appears that the later revisions are made cheaper than the earlier ones. It's still yet to be fixed, but it is something I will leave until I can muster up the courage and patience... Thank you Mark for another spectaculator spectrum repair video, that is how I found your channel many years ago, I hope you repair another one day!
I understand your reasons for stepping back, but you could always consider going a bit more lo-fi. If you switch over to doing stuff live you would not need to spend a lot of time editing. Naturally the whole thing would not have the same polish but if it's either that or nothing I'm sure most would prefer it.
As I always say, mass capacitor changes often cause more problems than they cure. I've got 100's of arcade bards and quite a few computers from that same era and very few have had to have any capacitors changed for reliable operation.
Nice video! I struggle with a Spectrum +2 with black screen right now. Hope to see more videos in the future despite you are doing some changes in your life priorities!
@@MarkFixesStuff I have the diag cart from Byte Delight. It shows normal databus activity, but nothing on the screen. It should show diag info on screen. Might be the ULA is faulty
Thanks Mark! I'm sure all of us are very happy for you to upload less to get your IRL stuff in order. Don't feel beholden and stress yourself out. I'll keep the Patreon payments up even with lower video output, because it isn't a lot of money and even with fewer vids it's still totally worth it. I'm sure most of the other supporters agree. Best you look after yourself and your family so you can still make nice videos, like this one. Although I'd rather not listen to the Maniac Miner music ever again. :P
Took me 3 years to fix an Electron, thought it had a bad ULA, turned out to be the ROM. Sometimes these things just take time. I had similar damage on a 48K Spectrum, so I can relate to what happened here. Good stuff.
Nice work on a nice machine with a nice backstory. Hopefully this machine has a nice long life ahead for your friend, if nothing else for the sake of him not having to wait for you to get around to repairing it again! 🤣
You are too good at these videos to be gone for long. Enjoy your break :)
I actually have a couple more to release, albeit short form.

I’m going to make videos whenever I can whilst downsizing. I’m not going to quit!
@@MarkFixesStuff That's how I understood it. And I'm totally fine with it.
Life and family comes first, YT somewhere (far) behind ;)

I hope to see some surprise Mark cameos at the RMC to help Neil spice up the place a bit on occasion (as if Stroud needs spicing up)
Thank you Mark for all the wonderful and informative videos.
Thank you Mark for everything.
Mark ROCKS! Don't worry dude, better times ahead I'm sure.. Just a Blip :) Fab Video :)...

I’ll still be making videos wherever I can! I still have a few in the pipeline as well

My favorite Spectrum is the toast rack, Nice to see you finally Fixed it 👍
It’s genuinely so shocking how time flies.
Another enjoyable video. I hope it isn’t really your final video.
It's not, it’s the final video on this project - part three. I’ll still be making videos while downsizing

Well done Mark. One more amazing ZX Spectrum ready to be loved and played
I will be missing your stuff :( I am sorry that I couldnt help via Patreon
I've been looking forward to this, Thanks mark :)
Still hoping to get a toastrack one day without having to sell a kidney. It will nicely complete my Speccy collection.

Yes, barring the well known cases of bad caps it’s often best not to work on a board unless it needs it.
A very nice video many thanks. I use a old cat 5E cable nice and small once you take it apart.
What I'm going to miss the most is your sexy soldering closeups.
Noice.
All the best from Florida good sir
Thank you for this video Mark!
Well done. Nothing like a good bodge wire to make things good again.
IT'S ALIIIIIVE!!!!!!!
Live long and prosper.

Might be worth trying a dandanator on it to check the ram etc.

Whats with the giant black arrow obscuring the missing trace under the microscope?
Editing mistake I suspect, it is the same one at th-cam.com/video/j5FjGec3QFs/w-d-xo.html
Yes it is!!! Eek! So sorry
Its a shame you're winding down mate, really enjoy your videos and cheeky innuendo :)
