@Michael I feel you brother. I've been sober since 5/25/17. Did 17 months between 2 programs, back to back with a relapse in between. I learned quite frankly that severe addiction comes from fear and pain, no matter who or where. Once you see it simply, and come with gratitude, everything changes. Just felt like sharing my story. ONWARD.

Yeah, I could never live up to my drunk self while being sober! It's exhausting trying to keep up with that. It's like 2 different people. I've excepted that I'm someone that isn't thrilled about social interaction, and that's okay.

Back then everyone was unhappy and it was the job of the unhappy to pull everyone down to his level. That is how a lot of alcoholics and drug addicts are. I had the exact same confusion as a kid, so accurate, wtf... Now as an adult, as I learn a bit more about the world, I realize people do things because they have to survive and to live, once the basics are satisfied they want to do more things, consume more stuff to avoid boredom and seek pleasure. We are designed to move like all other animals, it's hard wired to our genes. Unlike other animals humans had some big leap in intelligence by chance or whatever, then they began to invent and create stuff and build societies. Societies got bigger, more complicated and sophisticated. At this point we've accumulated thousands of years of knowledge discovered and refined by our ancestors, and we're still building up the pile. There's so many things to do and see because we've made this world so colorful, especially after the industrial revolution. But... It comes with issues. We take these things for granted. Too immersed in this socially constructed reality. We just go along with the flow cuz that's what everyone else's doing instead of slowing down and thinking about why we are here doing this etc. Coming into this world, Being taught how to walk, how to talk. Going to school. Being injected values, ideals, traditions, customs by our parents and people around us, learning that we should go to college and find a job/chase your dream and buy a house get married and have children... This is the standard formular for being a human in this modern era. It's laid out in front of us for us to follow. What else are we supposed to do? Like me living with parents staying home 24/7 doing nothing other than losing my shit? :)

Maybe proud that overcoming it made him who he is today?

As an alcoholic myself,it does no good to moralize about addiction. It's as much a part of me as my penis size or eye color. Some people can drink w/o it killing them physically and spirituously, and some people can't. So every day I don't drink, just like I don't play russian roulette and don't drive 90 mph on dark country roads.

No, he's just not ashamed of it, and that is good. That is how he will be able to help others.

"We have problemas like climate change and we´re just still like, flying airplanes, eating meat.." What kind of rationale is this?
