Looks good! I know no matter how much I plan ahead, I'm always scrambling to finish at the last minute. A bit stressful at times, but always fun. Be safe!
what are most of the tubes made of, and can you make racks at home if they are made from the right materials? I was told PVC is dangerous because it can shatter. If so what tubing should I get and might it be available at home depot or lowes? Thanks, have a happy and safe 4th.
You should do a rack stash video compilation... So people can show off the racks... It's always interesting to see what people come up with on their poor man racks... I even have racks for cardboard tubes... As they wear out I just break the bases off of other tubes and replace those slots.. Fan racks for Xcal and Mama tubes seems to work the best....
That really depends on your needs. A lot of people will do increments of 6 (12, 24, 36 etc) because of how shell kits are packed. You can buy tubes or pre-build racks online and from there, it's just about your budget and needs.
@@JoelRobinsonPyrotechnics I was planning on fast fusing 100 canister shells to put in my finale because my brother is moving into a new house and I am the one setting up/buying the fireworks. I get most of my fireworks from The Firework Superstore In Hannibal, Mo.
@@freedomeightspyrotechnics2099 I haven't checked out their racks in awhile, but they did have some at one point. So if you're aiming for 100 shells, you could do two racks of 50 or do some combination if you want to fuse several racks together. For example, a 20, 30, and 50 shot rack where you fuse the 20 to go first, then 30, and 50 for the finale.
What angle did you use for the 5x5??? I am doing one similar by 5 racks of 8. I have heard 10 and 20 degrees works well. Assume 60G canisters. I am also counter sinking the screw heads. I use decking screws and settled on using 3" and 1 1/4". My poor mans rack only has a dozen Excalibur tubes but is on a left over 3' x 4' sheet of treated plywood with galvanized #10, just pre-drill the tubes base. I may make it for slanted cakes in the future.
hey if u have any extra xcal tubes left over ile take em ime trying to make a decent show for my family next year and all i have is 2 12 shot poor mans racks thanks
Hey Joe like tell you I saw video that show what happen to these type of racks. Where they will not withstand an explosion! I saw something on Pyro Universe and may help you one day and many others out there. The side rail should be OSB on the bottom rail and the Top rail Plywood. They will withstand an explosion. I think you might check it out and update your video so no one will get hurt. I thought just like yourself that this was the best way to build a rack but they have proven me wrong. You see the OSB will give a little and keep the Mortar in tack and the top rail being Plywood will not come apart and allow the tube to keep firing. rather than being scatter with the shells still loaded. This happen to me over the 4th this year. I don't know who load the shells it may have been upside down. But it could have been real bad. Luckily I was with some that had a lot more experience, he ran grab the tube pulled all the shells out and they were still live and nobody got hurt. So please everyone be careful. There was a big crowd at this show just think if one of those shell had gone into the crowd. Okay
Joel. Wanting to build racks. I have seen milk cartons with 25 tubes in them. If i built something like that would i need a license? Wouldn't 25 tubes be more than 500grams? When does a rack/display cross the 1.3/1.4 class line?
