Thank you for explaining this beautiful liturgical music. I’m hoping to hear it in person soon, as I visit family on Lewis.

P,rince Edward Island, Canada. I've been learning Gaelic online for the past year.....the language of my ancestors, who came here from Skye in 1803. This is wonderful! Thank you.

Fascinating account of Gaelic psalm singing. It taught me a lot, and brought back such fond memories of Gaelic psalm singing in Free Presbyterian churches in the 1960s and 1970s. Wonderful to keep this unique musical tradition alive.

Fabulous! Many thanks for posting this workshop. I've long searched for understanding the workings of this incredible music! I'm riveted every time I hear it and would love to sing it myself. I'm a learner in Texas, USA

I have been learning Gaelic all alone in Amsterdam. I know all the tunes and have a Scottish psalter... came across your workshop by chance. For the first time I understand how the music is freely following the line with personally added grace notes

I am from Arkansas in the United States and I feel just as isolated here, but I would love to connect to have Gàidhlig conversations when you’re able.

      @@joshuaheyer2121 Hi Joshua
Thanks for your kind offer of Gaelic conversation. But I am not so isolated, here among a million other Amsterdammers. And there is a good Gaelic learning programme from Scotland that I can follow. I do hope you can find someone closer at hand to converse with in Gaelic.

Moran Tang (Manitoba Lewis-aDheas for Tapadh leat). Thank you from the bottom of my heart to it's height for having shared this. Afore I get in the why I'm thankful, let me humbly ask if you could, of you kindness, make a video using the melodies and going through (in their entirety, with music, and lyrics {preferably in the Ghaedhig} the psalms - or at least a select few).
I had been studying Ghaedhlig but my Ollamh (Seonag by name, bless her soul) passed Into the next life. With what I had I approached what poetry and song I could find. I find the best way to lean a language is through it's songs and poetry (which tends to be religious). I feel it would light my soul (the fire I my head) to be able to sing the psalms from top of my towns Mountain (where there's a historic cross). Wouldn't it be beautiful to have a revival outdoors like in days Lang sine. Please keep me posted if you decide to do anything even remotely of the sort

Mi cuideachd! I've been studying Gàidhlig for two and a half years now, and about a year ago my young son eagerly began learning with me! I envy his ear and his accent, already so much better than mine. He loves music, too, and we both find the Salms deeply moving and enchanting. We have Salm Vol. 1 and 2, by the The Gaelic Psalm Singers.Try as I might though, I can't find the lyrics in Gàidhlig to any of the psalms as they are sung! If anyone could help me find them, I would be eternally and deeply grateful. For reasons I could never articulate, the joy of hearing my young children speak this beloved language is boundless. My plan is to have them fluent by the time they enter high school, so they can then take some of the college Gàidhlig courses available. Mòran taing!

Amazing! I have been hunting for a way to learn how to sing the psalms, gaelic is new to me, yet i have a twisted tongue! I recognise your voice from the Professor Willie Ruff documentary, Amazing! God is a friend to the poor & lowly

From Arizona, US... this is fascinating. I think I would like to go to visit one of your churches and be part of the gaelic service. I'm originally romanian and hungarian, speak english and several other languages but don't know any gaelic outside of a handful of words I just learned online. I'm also deaf and use cochlear implants, I'm a musician so I can read the notes but it's hard for me to visualize what things sound like in reality when people get "creative" and do their own things. I wish I could hear it for real.

My daughter's friend is learning Gaelic cos no one will ever hear her speak it. (She may have chosen Martian.) I suggested she listen to the stir of the psalm singing. I found you... and all of a suddy I had watched your 'performance' from start to finish.! P.S. My bedroom walls are the colour of your walls !

My G G grandmother was a 'seer' for the Royal Court of Scotland and when they sang in the church they danced as well but wouldn't let the minister see they were doing this.

I don't understand the words, or even how the chorus singing conveys the words but "And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words."

Is it just me or do these frequencies remind you of the sound-track to the 'close encounters' movie?🎼

What advice do you have for those of us who have no musical ear or ability?

Just join in! Every voice is acceptable as part of the congregation's voice. Somehow, it works!
