I love how generous you guys (as well as all the greats you quoted here) are with your praise for this young musician. I'll definitely get his CD. Also Peter, let's hear some of this poetry of yours :-)

Been listening to this album a ton since Geoffrey Keezer posted that IG. Can't agree more, he's amazing.

I got to see Sullivan this Summer in Santa Fe. His stride work is out of this world.

I can’t think of a more pure and unassuming innovator than Sullivan! ❤

Much obliged for an iconic show. Watching your expressions while listening and commenting to Sullivan is inspiring ;)

One of my favorite modern day pianists, got to see him at the Village Vanguard a couple months ago, and his rendition of Alfie has been playing nonstop recently.

The audio tracks of Fred and Jason where a way for people that only stream now could have quasi-liner notes.

Just want to add one thing about Sullivan F - i hear alot of Art Tatum in his playing. I never thought there would be a pianist at tatums level but here he is in a modern version. Unreal!😢

I went to school with Sullivan Fortner at Oberlin from 2006-2008 when he was a couple years older then me. Alot of us Serious Katz knew him before he went to New York.

Sounds like Bach in Jazz, for me perhaps too mathematical. But I will give him a second chance tomorrow 🎶👋

Completely original is the easiest thing in the world... but also completely rooted, and really good, too?! That's a little rarer🤣. I haven't heard the album, so I'll change that. Thanks for the heads up (I knew who he is, obv, but hadn't heard Solo Game, AFAIK)

I'll listen to the valse first (last track before the blurbs) because that's what I feel just now. Then I'll circle back around towards the beginning.

You speak like a non musician. There's a type of jazz listener who thinks jazz is some kind of sporting event. It's not.

@@pianoman_JP oh man I'm not frickin insane I got no delusions of grandeur geez but jazz it isn't sports. I'm not any kind of technical monster boy I know that the hard way. in fact my only strength is that I've always known what I like I guess and I do like my own compositions (mostly). 1st of all I'm listening to Mr. Fortner as I type (for the 1st time) and wow 🤯 yeah he's for sure (The New Standard) no doubt...But my TH-cam channel is paxwallacejazz I guess you did ask; and I have a CD Language Arts on Origin Arts. But I'm a 64 yr old jazz composer who tries to remain friends with the piano and I have been writing lyrics for my book and so far happy about the results with a female jazz Vocalist. I just returned to America after being in Europe since 1999. What about you Sir? Oh man Mr. Fortner just started singing "On a Clear day" geez, man. Yeah.
