Great conversation with Mike, one of favorite lifetime riders. My input on the Heli-drop was because I was the nearest guide help for the shot, I had radio count down and it was amazing to watch live because we could see how high the heli was off the top of the mountain but could not see the landing. I knew he did not land it because of his position in the air after the grab, and I was stoked to hear Mike was ok after the bomb hole he made.
"Get the rails off the mountain"... Love it. Totally agree with you Mike! I've worked in the terrain park the last 3 years and I think there is way too much emphasis on rails and boxes. There are some parks now that have no or hardly any jumps or snow features. I think parks should build more snow features. Even in the parks I've worked in I watch people and when given a choice people tend to take the jump line over any box or rail. I think parks could get more creative with snow too instead of copying everyone else. Rails are ugly too. More natural is the route. Holy Bowly and Peace park got the right idea. The wood ones like the stash look interesting too. It's so cool after all these years to get to know people on this show.
Mikey B. ...... he said it!!!!! :-) "If we could all heli board, there would be no rails! / ...they SKATEBOARD on snow beautifully!.... / ...let's get the rails off the mountain!" Hahaha, best statement at the B Hole EVER! Although the last one was even better: "If you're willing to be vulnerable, you can grow!" Wisdom!! Great episode, guys!!! Mikey is such an inspiration! I was in his rig at the 30th anniversary of the Baker Banked Slalom with my friend Gallup. Perfect home on wheels! Only a mad genius can create such a vehicle. ✌🙏
It's interesting to know he spent time camping on his lot thinking of light and wind before building and took his experience into account. This is exactly how architects work. Most people won't give a shit when they hear the word architect. I wonder if he ever had any interest on the topic prior to the cabin.
No signed prints but we're hosting a sweepstakes giving away one of the new prints Mike created with proceeds going to support Boarding 4 Breast Cancer. Find details about it in the show notes!
